My theory - apologies I'm one coffee in...

They were taken by someone they knew and trusted
It was very well organised and planned (apart from this last dumping)
They were alive for the last 100 or so days
The 110 house sweep 45 days ago caused someone to panic and kill them
The motive was not sexual for the perp, although such may have occured as a side effect. The motive is something other than sexual.
There is more than one perp.
He is local.
He is familiar with the dump site OR the accomplice (s) who did the dumping was
He is local...I'm saying Waterloo.
He has a criminal history - a long one
He is in his 30s or 40s (this is no Austin Sigg) but his accomplices may be plural, and much younger and/or female and heavily under his influence for some reason.
This is an execution style murder rather than a violent assault murder - I doubt the girls were physically harmed in any way other than their final moment.
The girls were walked in separately and executed by two different perps.

All my opinion only based on what we know so far and it could change any time some new detail comes to light.

It makes me sick to think they may have died at the hands of someone they trusted, but maybe they never knew or suspected a thing. Maybe they were on a fun secret holiday in their minds, right up until the last second.

I'm thinking along the same line SapphireSteel... unfortunately.

In this picture, it looks as though the people are standing around something that's between the two sheets we've been assuming are where the bodies were found. The brush looks like it's knee deep to the person in the foreground. It must have been hip deep or more in the summer.

Thanks for posting the picture. Hubby & I walk in the woods year round, we have access to lots of property. We see this same terrain in all 4 season's and in the summer we have to walk around in some places because of the marsh grasses. Some of the grasses will cut you like a paper cut. That area where the people (LE) are standing would have been 3 1/2 feet tall or more. There would have been no reason for anyone to walk thought that grass, except to run from something or to put something there to hide. jmo

well, this strikes me as someone of frequents and knows parks, natural
areas, evidently from that part of the State? The girls were abducted
near the lake/park south of their home? Now they show up north of
Evansdale in a park-nature preserve and right next to some water ...
bodies separated from each other.

White vans must be everywhere! White van seen in the video tape but I
guess that was explained - the owner interviewed. Then white van with a
guy and woman trying to abduct a kid in CR (near Kirkwood?), chased
away, but not found. Now tonight some beared guy in a WHITE VAN! in
Washington County acting wierd trailing a school bus ... then same van
seen later trailing another school bus again in a urral area ... I am
grasping at straws here but sooner or later something solid has to emerge
in this case.

Im assuming none of this has anything to do with the drug charges
against the parents ...

I am actually wondering if the same perp will strike again soon somewhere
in the same general area! (in a white van!!!?).

I live about two hours away from Evansdale, and I saw this story on my local news last night. I immediately thought of Elizabeth and Lyric. I also thought, "Hey! A white van! Why is it always a white van in these types of cases?"

This sicko will strike again, and I sincerely hope that he's apprehended before he has the chance to hurt another child. I also believe that if this crime had nothing to do with the parents' associates from the meth world, then these poor girls were probably the victims of a sexual predator.

Somebody asked this question earlier about students and the DNR, but I can't remember who it was. Anyway, I think I can answer that question for you:
The DNR does hire interns and students to work in the summer. My husband worked for a park that was under the jurisdiction of the DNR when he was in school. There are colleges that offer degrees in park management/forestry service. Students in these programs work in these parks. My husband does not have a degree in this field; he just needed a job, and was hired to do brush-clearing and other landscape maintenance type things. However, he worked with people who were planning careers with DNR/Fish and Game.

janie, from past cases the reports were not back for weeks. In many urban areas, especially during the Holiday seasons it could even be longer.

Example: Karen Swift(TN) was abducted 10/30/2011-Her remains were sent to the ME on 12/10/2011-

http://www.stategazette.com/story/1796485.html
Sheriff's dept., TBI awaiting coroner's report on Swift (12/20/11)
Dyer County Sheriff's Department investigators and the TBI are still awaiting the results from the Shelby County Medical Examiner's Office for the cause of death in the Karen Swift murder case.

My guess is that this is the highest-profile death in the entire state, so there was a rush on results perhaps. MOO

I feel like almost every time I see photos of where people were located on this site, I feel weird that people would do such ugly things in such beautiful places. Sorry if this is shallow or offensive, I definitely don't mean it to be.

After looking at the aerial view of the pictures, I am wondering if the girls were alive and walked into this location by the perp and then one of them realized something very bad was about to happen and tried to make a getaway, the reason for the bodies being found several feet apart.

RIP dear little girls.

Just imo.

Can someone point me in the direction of info on the "110 house sweep"? I have seen this referenced a couple times but I am not familiar with it. Tia!

Thank you! Again, a very informative post.

I wonder if LE has spoken with the summer students who worked at Lake Meyers and Seven Bridges last summer.

I don't know. I hope they've interviewed anyone who worked at any of the parks in the area.

Here's one internship program that is currently going on at the Iowa DNR:

And here's their website:

Park employees could also be just county employees, depending on the job and the park:

There also could have been people who maintained park areas as part of a jail program/community service requirement. I don't know if this happens in this area, but it is common for other parts of the state. Someone could have worked there for a day or two, thought it was isolated enough for future crimes and gone back there. Anyone know of any work detail groups in that area in the last couple of years?

In 2010, the county received 24,000 for the Seven Bridges area. This ledger says, "FY 2010, Meyer Property".

Anyone know what this means? I'm assuming that 24k was given to the park by the state. That would have possibly funded some summer jobs and maintenance work.
