Statistically, there is unlikely to be a repeat, at least in the Evansdale area.

I live in Iowa, about 90 miles from Evansdale. After 13 July, there were no children to be seen in my tiny little town without parents, which is highly unusual. This is a place where it's common to see little packs of children playing and riding bikes from spring to late fall. Even at Wal-Mart where it is common to see a parent pushing the cart and a couple of children sort of orbiting the parent at a distance, children were under tight control.

Last summer there were several reports of attempted abductions that turned out to be misunderstandings, no abduction intended.

What good could a warning do that wasn't already being done? And how much higher would the tension level have gone had there been more warnings.

Tangential thought: driving in other states, I was always amused at the "bridges may ice over before the road" and "curves may be slippery" signs on the roads. That seems like nannying drivers, who shouldn't get behind a wheel if they don't know that stuff. Plus, reading (or hearing) a warning over and over tends to desensitise people to the subject of the warning.

GrainneDhu, I respect and honor your opinion, but even with the amount of awareness, there will still be those that are unaware.

In the adjacent communities before the Jessica Ridgeway abduction/murder, as well as in Westminister, CO community where she lived. There were several abduction attempts prior to hers. At least one of these attempts was by Austin Sigg; Jessica's abductor/murderer. Yet the community was not on high alert.
If a recidivist child predator is responsible for these tragic murders. No amount of awareness or vigilance is too much, imo...

Is that river deep enough to walk through while carrying something fairly heavy? If so the perp may have entered the water quite a ways downstream and carried the bodies, this way to leave no tracks or hints as to a point of entry or exit.

Let me clarify, if the water was more than waist deep a 145 pound or so body would be MUCH lighter to carry that far.

Overall, the water levels would have been such that someone could walk down the middle of the Wapsipinicon last summer.

However, rivers like that (lots of curves) tend to have holes dug out by the current, so you can be walking (or riding your horse, which is how I know this) in what seems like ankle or knee deep water and then all of a sudden you're in over your head. I can think of several people who drowned due to conditions like that, including a friend of mine.

This particular mark was outside the main perimeter.

The orange crime scene flag puzzles me. I have been chewing on the idea of its meaning since 5 and now wonder if it means nothing at all. I read some msm report that referred to these markers been placed about the scene but we only see a pic of this one?

I think it was inadvertently dropped upon exitting and clearing the scene. If LE had just left them all behind I would expect the site to be littered with them.

:slaphead:

Sometimes I over obsess.

Yeah.

Although we still don't have anything more than coincidence and proximity.
True. It could be anybody out there.
I'm just praying the police find whoever did this quickly for the families sake. They've been through enough. Also to prevent another abduction. Whoever did this is free and very dangerous.

I'm playing catch up but I thought 7 Bridges area had beaver. Now I can't find that site. Could the freshly cut trees have been beaver damage? The picture I looked at seemed chewed on or maybe it was by axe. I did notice some tree limbs in the water.

Just hoping that the entire area inside & outside the perimeter was searched thoroughly with K9s and a fine tooth comb..

It looks to me like they just missed a couple of things when they were cleaning up, and the photographer took pictures of them. They would have marked and picked up anything anomalous, even if it was unlikely to be related. It could have been a cough drop wrapper somebody tossed while hunting, for instance, or a cigarette butt, or, or, or.

The only thing interesting about the yellow tape down by the water was that it was away from the main scene. Otherwise it was just an old log.

Squeeze, per my info the hunters have not made a public statement. Do you have a link?

I remember hearing in the early hours after the girls were found, that no effort had been made to conceal their bodies. I am guessing it was HLN or CNN, as that's the only 'news' I would have heard locally. It wasn't attributed to the hunters..was part of a reporter's segment.

I understand your point, but everything so far has been "Lyric and Elizabeth" - fundraisers, vigils, etc. Now that the girls are gone, it seems fitting to me that Drew and Heather want to do something just for Elizabeth to celebrate her life. Sure, they loved Lyric, but Elizabeth was their child and they want to honor her alone, not as part of "Lyric and Elizabeth". JMO

But I will feel awful if nothing special is done for poor little Lyric at some point.

Lyric has her own parents that "should" do the same for her. It is not the responsibility of her aunt & uncle for Pete's sake. Heather and Drew have a right to grieve the loss of "their" daughter, they should not have to "share" that moment with anyone whether it be a relative or not.
It is only fitting that each set of parents coordinate a celebration of life for their own daughter. jmo

And we don't know what are coincidences and what are not KWIM and so very much proximity.

I 2nd your prayers

I believe you are right. I think that source may have been the investigative reporter on JVM via HN

That is what I remember, too. And forgive me if this is incorrect, but didn't the call about the older guy originate from the a convenience store of the same chain that Misty worked for, just another location? I just seem to recall that the store was somehow tied to the police report about this guy.

Might be but I don't put any weight to that. Casey's is a chain that is so ubiquitous to Iowa that there are three of them in my little town of 6000. There's even one in my tiny town of about 1200.

<hissing and holding up a cross>

Aww...it's not that bad. The book was written by a graduate of the world-renowned Iowa Writers' Workshop:rocker: I can't vouch for the film, however.

Totally agree.

My ex husbands feet were huge, but everything else about him was small.

:p

BBM: I know EXACTLY what you mean! :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh::blushing:

Oh I agree, based on what locals have said, but it seems I remember it caused a smallish hullabaloo that the reporting party had called from a Casey's.

What ever happened to that young man who was sending nasty pics to TB's daughter? And was he a boyfriend or just some random perv? I know he was an adult but just barely, right? So he might have acted young enough to seem non-threatening to VERY young girls?

Reports were he was 20. This came from gracelin and Peachy downstairs.

Nighty night all.

Praying LE and all in this invesrigation are guided by the divine to the perp with some serious solid evidence.
