Off topic here, but was just wondering...

Were Dan's "partners in crime" ever sentenced? I know the male was arrested on 11/16/12, but never heard anything more.

Since sleuthing people on WS isnt allowed, If you know their names you can just look them up on iowa courts online.

PEOPLE responsible? Or was that just weird wording? Very interesting article. Thank you for posting!

:waitasec: I was thinking the very same thing! :waitasec:

Thank you Otto for the maps, it sure makes things a lot easier to comprehend.

Welcome SierraShelby and Skylar!

We all wonder why we can't keep track of times of this and times of that...it seems that those directly involved have problems remembering who, what, when, where, why, how, etc... (meaning LE, family, investigators)

I'm throwing out all of the times other than what he confirmed in the email and starting over.

It's a little confusing as to what is considered the nature trail and what is considered bike trail? Does nature trail go from Gilbertville Depot thru Evansdale and bike trail is the trail around Meyers Lake???

I have never thought of this, but you are SO right. A little boy would have noticed two girls on one bicycle, but probably wouldn't have given a second thought to two girls each riding her own bike.

I hope someone with much better questioning skills spoke to this little boy.

I dont see the distinction. The relative asking was desparate? She was
simply asking/meaning: have you seen ANY GIRLS ON ANY BICYCLE(S) ...
Her lack of proper grammar is understandale. She wasn't asking the kid
in well thought out technical language ....?

I've tried to tell you all that LE will withhold info and even twist info but nobody wanted to listen to what I had to say. I was LE, now retired, and my son is a Deputy Sheriff but everybody thought I didn't know what I was talking about. Its just like my son making the statement that LE could have been behind this so called rift in the family to where there was two separate celebrations of life so it gave them a chance for a second look at who showed up. Sorry for the rant, but it just proved my point.

And I think that is EXACTLY what happened here. I've been trying to make sense of all of these sightings and times and trying to figure out why some are mentioned in one place and not another...I am just throwing them out completely. All but the darn auction video.

But her email was dated 9/25/12. He wouldn't confirm very much in that email.

I am not surprised that, in response to a general public request for time lines, police provided generic information about the video time and the 3:58 bike time at the lake.

LE will not say anything that will jeopardize their investigation and when they do you have to learn to read between the lines and believe me its not always that easy to figure out. Their well aware of the fact that there is someone or dangerous people that are on the street still and yet they haven't really warned the public because they don't want people to panic.

I recall grandma saying last seen at 11:30. Once the tape came it, it got moved to 12:15. So I think I'll stick with the 12:11 as last known sighting.

So was Elizabeth's brother K home with Wylma that morning? Did he ever ride bikes with them? Surely he's been interviewed about the girls behavior and plans for the day, right?

I'm throwing out all of the times other than what he confirmed in the email and starting over.

It seems to me that there are a number of times that have been provided by investigators, but the information has been spread out over five months. It is true that police sometimes release false information to generate leads. I'm not convinced that there's a good reason for police to release incorrect times when two children are missing.

12:11 - video surveillance; video is 8 minutes slow ... that's where it seems to start.

I don't think LE wants the public to know where the girls were last seen. If they confirm that the girls were last seen on Brovan and the killer kidnapped them at the lake, the killer would then know he got away with it. Therefore, I really do believe last confirmed sighting is being withheld.

We have a bike trail here that goes around the entire city and it miles of trail and I hate to say it but its not the safest place to be. I've even seen LE riding on the trails here. A year ago my brother-in-law was riding his bike here after he had had a heart attack to get into shape again and there was a guy with his dog jogging and the dog bit my brother-in-laws leg while he was riding. The dude didn't want to give my brother-in-law his name but luckily my brother-in-law called LE and they were waiting on the trail for the guy when he hit a certain point. My poor brother-in-law ended up having to go through the whole series of rabbi shots.

Wasn't the white van that LE was mentioning in the beginning coming from Casey's? I know the guy came forward but where is Casey's located in Evansdale?

If police confirm that the children were last seen on Brovan in video at 12:11, which they have done, and that the bikes were first seen at the lake at 2:00 PM, the murderer would not know that he got away with it. Possible sightings between 12:30 and 1:00 (information released by investigators) would tell the murderer that police have nothing if he kidnapped them at Brovan.

He knows that he got away with it because it took five months for the remains to be located.

I disagree. I don't think he thinks that at all. Unless he is a sociopath, he has been looking over his shoulder since this happened.

But her email was dated 9/25/12. He wouldn't confirm very much in that email.

I'm sure the Chief of Police gets many emails. He probably doesn't have time to answer questions in depth, especially if it is to confirm information that LE has previously released. I think it was very nice of him to respond even briefly to someone's question about the timeline as busy as he must be.

I'm sure he probably does get many emails. But he took the time to explain why he wouldn't confirm any more. And I believe the reasoning.

Lets put it this way, if you keep the timeline vague, without nailing down specific times, it may encourage someone to come forward. If you throw out specific times all over the place, people who may have seen something may not come forward thinking they must be mistaken because it doesn't jibe with the timeline LE is giving. We can't even nail down the route the girls took because of all of the different times and places thrown out there.

The lake was there ...

]

380 runs adjacent to Meyers Lake, if these photos and Google maps are correct.

Couldnt an abductor been on 380 with the girls in mere minutes?

Is there a nearby exit off 380 that would take the perp north(?) to
7-Bridges?

If the girls were held a time, then taken to 7-Bridges, and the exit route from Evanadale is
380 ... where does the perp go in the meantime? Yes I know this is an abstraction, but
am tossing it out for future reference should that develop. Once on 380 a person could have
been miles away very quickly, only to return later ... Ive never heard 380 even mentioned?
