Is that the rumor associated with CF? Can I even ask that?

I think she's talking about that one, yes. The one whose car was rumored to have been impounded and tested.

Hmmm...just throwing around ideas again. :blushing:

I'm considering the thoughts that the girls weren't fully decomposed and there was reason to believe that they had been held for some time after the abduction.

I also wonder if there was some sort of message sent to LE somewhere along the way which lead them to believe the girls were alive.

They had said all along they thought the girls were alive...maybe up until the re-canvas? Maybe they had some sort of clue? Killer sending LE on a wild goose chase?

Then the family releases that letter to the killer. Typically those come out in the first few days of these events happening, don't they? Get the parents on camera crying and pleading for their return...that doesn't typically happen months after the kids go missing...right?

Was LE notified that the girls had been killed? And that's why they put out the statement for hunters to be on the look out?

All of that makes me consider that maybe LE was getting clues all along...messages stringing them along?

They never have been back to search around the lake again (that I know of) Is it because they knew there was nothing to find there??? That maybe they KNEW the bikes were just tossed there, and were told as much?

The reward was also increased by a significant amount just days before their bodies were found. Another sign that they were confident someone would crack?

Makes me think that could be why LE has been so tight lipped...and so confident that they were alive...:waitasec:

Jmo, but I really think LE said they thought the girls were still alive, is because they had nothing telling them they were dead.

I don't necessarily disagree ;)...just thinking through different ideas and seeing if it stirs up any new thoughts or possibilities.

I know what you mean, with nothing hardly to go on new thoughts would be refreshing.:rocker:

Is the weather your getting highly unusual for your area?

A bit uncommon. We usually get a little ice every year, occasionally very mild winters and no ice. Two years ago we had a huge ice and snowstorm in April! My poor sister-in-law (an elementary teacher) was teaching her students about the seasons at the time. It kind of confused the kids when it snowed in April.

:goodpost: Please don't stop posting! You make excellent points! I just believe we have to stay open to ALL possibilities and to me that still includes SO, RSO, someone we would NOT expect at all. MSM is reporting LE coming down hard on the family, but I certainly hope they are not dismissing any other leads if they do not include the family.

BBM & SBM

Keep in mind that the reports of LE coming down hard on MM and DM were from the first week of the girls' disappearance. It all culminated in MM and DM consulting a lawyer and saying they were not going to speak to the media or LE any more.

That lasted less than 48 hours. After that, LE reported that all family members were cooperating.

My take on it is that a couple people who clearly do not have good coping skills (or they would not be drug users) were under huge amounts of stress and sleep deprivation and they snapped. Within 48 hours, they realised that not talking would not be in the best interests of their child or Elizabeth and they started cooperating again.

If doing something stupid as a reaction to stress is a crime, then everyone in the US is a criminal (including me). Most of us are fortunate enough that the national media is not scrutinising us while we have our less than shining moments.

I just noticed on this video, the first place Grandma mentions that they checked was Elk Run. (Not necessarily the first place they checked...but the first place she mentions.)

If they were certain the girls would never ride as far as Meyer's lake, what would make them search Elk Run? Isn't that way further than Meyer's Lake? Or just a different direction, but about the same distance?

I am looking at a google map so maybe a bike route would be safer from the Collin's home to Elk Run?

I try watching these videos every once in awhile to see if anything catches my attention...this time that comment did.

That (on a map) seems like a pretty long ride on a bike...what is in Elk Run that would appeal to the girls...just the park?

O/T - here's the link to an interesting article about pedophilia from today's L.A. Times:

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-pedophiles-20130115,0,197689.story?track=lat-pick

Like many forms of sexual deviance, pedophilia once was thought to stem from psychological influences early in life. Now, many experts view it as a sexual orientation as immutable as heterosexuality or homosexuality. It is a deep-rooted predisposition — limited almost entirely to men — that becomes clear during puberty and does not change.
. . .

Not all pedophiles molest children. Nor are all child molesters pedophiles. Studies show that about half of all molesters are not sexually attracted to their victims. They often have personality disorders or violent streaks, and their victims are typically family members.

If rape is viewed as being about power and sadism, then that makes total sense. Rapists rape primarily because they are looking for that sense of complete power over another human being and, in this culture, sex is the most intimate and private of acts. In a hypothetical culture where the most intimate and private act was cutting a lock of hair to give to the person one loves most in the world, people who would rape in this culture would be cutting the hair off people in that culture. If you see what I mean.

The families were pleading from the first weekend. That letter was definitely not the first plea aimed at the perp.

My belief is that the only reason LE said they thought the girls were still alive was because they hadn't found any direct evidence of death (no pools of blood, etc). I've heard the same thing in other cases and it has always turned out that the person was dead, so I'm pretty jaded on that one.

If I recall correctly, the Elk Run Casey's was where Misty was working at the time. Maybe Grandma wondered if they might have ridden over there as an adventure to see Misty at work.

Amen to that! Thank you GrainneDhu. I respect your opinions very much. I have not walked in these people's shoes, nor would I ever want to. To be under such a powerful microscope, I cannot imagine. And, I admit I remind myself of a certain aunt who is easily excitable.

That makes perfect sense.

BBM-Here's a new thought: recently I've been wondering if the girls were actually on their bikes during the times listed by LE as being seen. Especially when they were seen on the streets that have been mentioned before (sorry I forgot the names). LE has never said that they were on their bikes when seen & neither has Mr. Carpenter & his wife. IMO the only time we know for sure they were on their bikes is in the video shown. What if they rode to the lake on their own & something happened to their bikes (or someone did something to their bikes, so they couldn't ride them again)? Maybe they really were seen with someone or in a vehicle (white) with someone & LE is just not releasing that info. because only the perp or 1 witness would know about it. Just :moo: & probably not very reasonable thoughts.

That makes perfect sense.

It does...IF that was something they did prior to July 13th. But how the heck would they know their way there? Misty had only started the job just days before...so unless they'd made that ride before in the days just prior I wouldn't think they would even know the way there.

That just seems awfully far away for them to check if they don't leave a few block radius of the house while riding.

Can anyone tell how many miles it is from Collin's home to Elk Run?

If that's the Casey's straight out Lafayette, it's about 2 miles.
