I guess I am just spinning my wheels, because I just can't understand how after they found the girls murdered that they aren't releasing the warning that they need help solving this case.:waitasec:

Is it because they KNOW why the girls were killed? And they don't think this person is a threat to kill again? Who knows. I know we've been over it and over it and it just doesn't make sense to me as to why there just doesn't appear to be a sense of danger in the community after they find the girls murdered. Logically I would then wonder if someone in the family may be responsible, so LE knows there is no real threat to anyone else. It just doesn't make sense.:banghead:

I sooooooooooooooo agree with you.:rocker:

I have to say, I feel fearful right now, because a killer is loose. Not too far from where I live. If he is so brazen to abduct two girls in broad daylight and then kill them, who knows what he is capable of.

Sorry, Rick Abben, not Tony Thompson.

I know. It being seven months old may be giving me somewhat of a false sense of security. I know it sounds weird. Either the perps are laying low, are incarcerated, or have left the area, with the lack of any other incidences happening since.

IDK, but it just seems wierd to put a gazebo on an island. Also they said the lake was the last place the girls were seen? No, I thought that's where the girls bikes were last seen. Unless, a witness came forward that we don't know about who saw them.

See, this is why I keep think they have their suspect and are watching him.

A vague description of a person isn't going to convict anyone, but it would, hopefully, lead to more evidence. If it lead to a suspect? Or several suspects, then it would be narrowed down by checking alibis, getting search warrants and collecting more evidence. Remember in the very beginning, they said they had collected evidence from the lake. Other than the bikes, cell phone and purse, we haven't been told of anything else that they've found. I personally hold onto the hope that they have something, maybe of the perps, that will tie the whole case together. Tony Thompson was just on Tv the other night confirming that they are withholding some facts. I think thats a possitive sign.

BBM-And he also said that they are confident there will be an arrest (not exact words, but along those lines). This did sound like a current interview, right?

I believe it was from the other day. But it might have been snipped from a previous interview.

I think so too. If not in custody, then they are watching closely.

Hello everyone! I am sooo glad to be able to finally post on this thread. I have been been lurking in the shadows for months. I have tried numerous times to get registered with the forums but all I have are free email addys & apparently my email was kicking correspondence from the main websleuths address to my junk folder. Anyhow, I feel like I know you all so well because I've been reading you for so long. That probably sounds a bit creepy.

I am a local. I don't live in Evansdale, but I live in a town about 20 minutes to the East. I actually have a friend that lives right on the lake. I have a daughter that is around the girls' age.

My mom, grandma, aunt, and I were going out to lunch in Waterloo on the day the girls were abducted. We would have been driving right by the lake on 20 around noon that day. We didn't pay any attention to the lake because we obviously didn't have any reason to. I cannot stop wondering what I might have seen if I just looked over. Anything might have helped. We took the old hwy 20 home after lunch as construction back-up on the "new" hwy 20 was bad earlier. The killer would have had to cross old hwy 20 to take the girls to 7 Bridges. Could we have crossed his path? I wish I could go back in time and been more vigilant. This case absolutely haunts me. I think about it when I go to bed at night. I cannot get these girls out of my mind.

A cousin of my best friend from high school was murdered in December - within a week of the girls' bodies being discovered. Her case is unsolved but LE knows a great deal. LE is very tight-lipped in her case too. We were talking about both cases recently. She said, "The thing with these cases, I feel like the cops know more than they're releasing because they're waiting for people to say something and to bring notoriety to themselves. That case you're discussing is sick. That would bother me a lot too...but, the cops probably have some ideas, and they don't want to taint any evidence they have by people's meddling. It is scary to have kids, with both of these cases, and know nothing. But I'm sure they're onto something, just have faith."

I've read people say things to that effect on here too. Evelyn Miller's case was brought to a close because of a big mouth. Maybe all this time is needed just as it was in her case. I'm trying to bank on it but I'm so frustrated right now. I cannot believe we have no new developments. Every time I turn on the news it seems like someone has tried to abduct another child in our area. I can't even take my kids to Walmart without being a nervous wreck.

:welcome5: ashleyd8402! So glad you made it out of lurkdome to join the conversation.

That is really unsettling to feel like you might have been traveling along old 20 at the same time the killer(s) may have been on their way to 7 bridges.

I can certainly see why you would feel like "if only" I had been more attentive, "what if" I could have seen something important?

You had no reason to know the importance of that day or the possible importance of your route. Don't let the shoulda coulda wouldas eat at you.

I am hopeful that LE at least has someone on their radar, that they suspect and are keeping close tabs on. Otherwise, it is too danged upsetting to contemplate that we are nowhere, after all this time.

Again, welcome. Looking forward to reading more of your thoughts on this one.

I have always believed the girls were abducted from the lake. I have always thought that they were taken at maiden lane area. My only stumbling ground is how did they get in a vehicle there without being seen? I know when I visited the area it was very quiet there and secluded, but the perp had to of had this planned very very well. I can't remember the name of the street that maiden lane come out of, but I do remember that it only has some houses on the north side.

Maiden Lane connects to Arbutus.

EXCELLENT point!:rocker: Does this confirm (in a round about way) that the girls DID make it to the lake? I mean, the last we can CONFIRM is that they were riding their bikes by the house...everything else, is witness accounts. But just from the reports, I am feeling pretty confident that the Collins family appears to believe the lake was the last known place the girls were...

Doesn't really change much, but interesting nonetheless.

Here's where Tony Thompson speaks about witholding evidence. But I don't really like the word "IF".

That entire sentence does not make sense!
BBM: "There's stuff of course we know that we don't divulge to the public because if we do catch somebody in this, and we're confident it's going to happen we hope, every tip needs to be followed up on and that's being done," said Rick Abben with the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office.

Confident and hope do not belong in the same sentence.

The statement is just fumbling words IMO..."we want to update you to believe we are on this and are doing our jobs, but we don't want to give any indication that we have anything in case the perp is listening" (all in the same update). :floorlaugh:

So...then should I think the OPPOSITE of my earlier train of thought?? Do they not want to set off the killer to think they are on their trail because they are afraid of them killing again or running?

I just have this feeling this person is right under everyone's nose...right in the throws of everything.

Just a quick question...isn't it safe to say that all the tests would be done and results back by now?

Does this mean no viable DNA was found? Or at least one to make an arrest? Or just not anyone in a database...?

Also, another question...how long would DNA stay on a body? Say the perp did touch the girls (not necessarily sexually assault them...but touched them at some point)...how long would that evidence stay on a body?

(I was reading the Austin Sigg update and they said they had "touch DNA"...is that fingerprints? What is touch DNA? They said it was on the torso and her underwear (bleh) but AS said he did NOT sexually assault her, just killed and dismembered her.)

What is Touch DNA?

Touch DNA is not Low Copy Number (LCN) DNA. LCN DNA profiling allows a very small amount of DNA to be analyzed, from as little as 5 to 20 cells. Because of the small amount of starting DNA in LCN samples, many more cycles of amplification are necessary.

what does it mean in english?

Humans shed tens of thousands of skin cells each day, and these cells are transferred to every surface our skin contacts. When a crime is committed, if the perpetrator deposits a sufficient number of skin cells on an item at the scene, and that item is collected as possible evidence, touch DNA analysis may be able to link the perpetrator to the crime scene. Touch DNA has been successfully sampled from countless items including gun grips, steering wheels, eating utensils, and luggage handles, just to name a few.

I think the likelihood of LE finding any DNA on bodies touch or otherwise is not great. The few bits of info released have indicated the remains were skeletal and DNA would no longer be present on bones.

I like Otto's idea of maybe we should start looking at other types of people who may be involved in this.

One thought that comes to mind is, maybe the reason LE isn't releasing any info to the public and/or asking for public's help is because someone has been arrested in another state and is currently being held in jail there and Iowa is making sure they have a case built (by gathering everything possible and getting their ducks in a row) and then also filing charges on the person in the near future?

Is there anyone from the area that has been arrested for a similar type crime in another state and is still currently jailed in another state? Or someone that's not even from the area but is jailed in another state for committing a similar type crime(s)?

Just some thoughts and maybe I'm crazy for even thinking this way....
I don't really know for sure what I think anymore :waitasec:
