Good grief.

I used to watch them more than I do now. I think this does it for me, somewhat. My husband rolls his eyes when I watch The First 48!! Actually the narrator puts me to sleep!

My husband does the same thing. :floorlaugh: He's always saying I need to change my career into some sort of FBI detective work because I could sit and watch anything that has to do with LE all day long. Gimme a marathon of Locked Up Raw, The First 48, or Law and Order: SVU and I'm one happy camper.

I was just going to post this information. Dan looks so sad and worn out in those pictures. I noticed he still wears his wedding ring. I know he made bad choices with drug abuse, but I hope he can possibly get some help while doing his prison sentence. I just can't help but feel sorry for him (don't yell at me please!)

ITA, he does look tired and worn out.

He looks like a man who's demons have caught up with him.

I’m tired of fighting ... I just want to take responsibility for what I’ve done,” said Morrissey

Maybe there will be an arrest soon.

I see what you're saying.

What if early on in this case, when LE held a couple of "motorist check pts" during the critical hours of this case trying to find drivers who travel that route on a daily basis (or whatever), and that's where they made contact w/subj witness?

Fox, I think if I was caught off guard, not knowing what the check points were all about, I would probably tell LE what I had witnessed, but if I was aware of why the check points were there, I wouldn't say anything, BUT I would use the tip line to notify LE of what I saw. :moo:

So when Mr. JP notified LE about the video on July 16, three days after the girls disappeared, their disappearance wasn't considered suspicious at that time?

http://wcfcourier.com/news/evansdal...cle_c7394e3c-d6a6-11e1-a4f3-0019bb2963f4.html

IIRC, until the cctv was discovered LE were not sure at all what had happened, nor when, as grandma originally said she last saw them at 11.30 which meant they could have gotten a lot further.

The cctv confirmation caused wylma to change her last seen time to 12.15.

I suggest it was precisely this information, tied in with Mr C's and Mr G's sightings, that alarmed LE in the first place. They realised then that the girls had vanished very shortly after they were last seen.

They were still draining the lake at the time, and checking the local area and RSO's.

Lyric had also recently been a runaway so they probably were also looking at places she may have run to.

Mr P didn't find the tape until the following week and the girls went missing on the Friday. That is an entire weekend of speculation, and also the time frame that both Mr C and Mr G both spoke to media.

Hindsight's 20/20. Everyone was hoping they would be found alive, including LE.

I think your last statement is what he meant.

I agree. This scenario doesn't fit into my relative's situation. The victim was kidnapped and murdered without being reported missing. I believe there is a timeline of the victim's activity prior to the crime (with connection to the suspects), but it has not been made public by LE (in my relative's case).

So ... do you believe that the police have deliberately misled the public about the timeline of the children prior to the time that they were abducted?

If it's a toss up between "recalling correctly" and factual information, why not go with the facts. The FBI was involved by 8 PM on July 13 ... so we know that the abduction of the children was immediately considered to be suspicious. That is, there should be no possibility that the cyclist, who spoke to media on July 16 or 17, thought that this was simply a case of children playing hide and seek for 4 days.

What accusations?

Dan's looking at 200 years in jail and he's stated he's owning up to that.

Yes let's go with facts.

It actually took a full week.

Law enforcement officials who have spent the past nine days searching for a pair of missing cousins in Iowa say some family members are not being completely cooperative and are now under close scrutiny.
"Law enforcement has not received total cooperation from all family and close friends. We feel there's someone out there that has pertinent information about the girls' whereabouts," FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said.
Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook, who are cousins, were last seen on July 13, riding their bikes near a lake in Evansdale, Iowa. Authorities reclassified the case as an abuduction Friday, and the FBI said they believe the girls are still alive. A $50,000 reward is now being offered for information that would lead to their being found.

JP contacted LE on July 16 (3 days later, Monday) about the cctv video. Not sure when JP talked to the media, but imo, the girls' disappearance was suspicious long before JP called LE about the video. This is the only point I was trying to make.:seeya:

In the beginning of the search, it was clear LE was looking for either drowned or hiding live children.

They even told us they thought the girls were still alive, and asked the public to consider they may have changed their appearances.

How does this relate to the police deliberately deceiving the public regarding the timeline of the children prior to the time that they were abducted?

  • #1,457
So ... do you believe that the police have deliberately misled the public about the timeline of the children prior to the time that they were abducted?

Let me try this again...No thoughts at all about the timeline, because until more is released, either in a trial or by LE, I am not forming an opinion about the timeline....therefore I am not in the belief that police have misled anyone about it!

You have the timeline down so why worry about what others think about it, unless you are doubting your theory, which I am not.

In order to make all the timelines, statements, accounts, etc of everyone that has spoken publicly fit, someone has to be lying! Take your pick who it could be, from family, witnesses, friends, acquaintences, drug associates, attorneys, police, FBI, RSO's, facebook friends. I am not accusing any particular person about lying. At this point, until an arrest is made and more is known about the motive and evidence, no one can be sure who is lying and who is telling the truth!

BBM

I disagree with the bolded statement. A lot more than looking for "hiding" or "drowned" children happened right away, with the investigative team expanding by the hour.

Day 1: What Response Teams Were Active

  1. search the home and the area using three squad cars,
  2. sheriff’s office sends four cars to help,
  3. Fire department requested to help,
  4. Girls' names are entered into the National Crime Information Center,
  5. Fire department begins dragging Meyers Lake,
  6. County Emergency Management Agency notified,
  7. Canvas of lake neighborhood beings,
  8. obtain photos of the girls,
  9. Divers with Cedar Valley Underwater Search and Rescue called,
  10. search of wooded areas,
  11. Iowa State Patrol airplane with forward-looking infrared joins the search,
  12. interviewing local people listed on the state Sex Offender Registry,
  13. Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children notified.
  14. FBI brought in. STAR-1 contacted,
  15. emailing and faxing descriptions of the girls to truck stops, stores and public places within a 100 mile radius of Evansdale.

Day 2: What Response Teams Were Added

  1. DCI and FBI arrive and begin interviews.
  2. Civilian searches of the area resume until 7:30 p.m.
  3. NCMEC sends out an advisory and prepares posters.
  4. Law enforcement continues canvassing the neighborhood
  5. Parents' cell phones and computers taken for examination.
  6. FBI’s Child Abduction Response Team is deployed
  7. STAR-1 sends cadaver dogs to the lake.
  8. Law enforcement begins locating and interviewing registered sex offenders.
  9. Divers called back to search new areas of Meyers Lake.
  10. State Patrol plane with LFIR returns.
  11. Law enforcement begins searching area Dumpsters
  12. Garbage hauling companies notified of dump locations in the landfill

Day 3: What Response Teams Were Added

  1. FBI brings in data management team
  2. Interviews and polygraphs conducted.
  3. DCI, FBI and local police continue neighborhood canvas.
  4. Law enforcement continue with sex offender interviews.

My other pastime is listening to the scanner via my computer while at work. I work downtown, so I like to know what all of the sirens are for. My coworkers will ask me what's going on! I admire the dispatchers. That has to be a tough job.

I don't think that anyone is lying. I think that the tip that police have openly excluded; where police claimed to not know anything about a reliable tip from a cyclist, is a lie, but I do think it's possible that the person that provided the tip is mistaken. If we exclude the tip and associated timeline, just like the police have done, then the timeline works just fine.
