His daughter was killed in Iowa?

Mrs. Nichols in the article is Jurly Nichols, the grandmother of Lindsey Nichols shot to death in Jesup, Iowa on March 21, 2012 by Dr. Timothy Roses, an ex-boyfriend. Jurly is married to Ron Nichols.

http://www.kwwl.com/story/20414007/2012/12/23/one-family-impacted-by-two-tragedies

Lindsey was the daughter of Tom Nichols, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Lindsey was the former wife of Brandon Smock (I know the next question, but not the answer, but he's probably a relative).

Jurly Nichols and her husband do have an address on Evans Rd. They also have address on W. Gilbert and McCoy. I believe a couple of them are rental properties.

Usually what it means is that the person has been arrested for something in the US, and the proceedings for that crime have to be finished. But whenever that happens, they're released to ICE custody, even if it's years later.

We have a case here that involves an illegal immigrant who killed somebody in a drunk driving accident. The news has mentioned a number of times that he's under ICE hold so he'll be deported after he serves his jail term.

So most likely the guy you're tracking won't show up in those sites for a while.

the person will be released to immigration authorities when released from Polk and held in a detention center pending case review by an immigration judge to determine whether or not they can "legally" remain in the US

Well my husband became a crime victim yesterday. His wallet, checkbook and phone were stolen out of his vehicle. They have all his info, drivers license cc cards everything. We spent the whole day calling cc companies and banks. I went to my cell carrier and got a list printed out of the calls that were made by the thief on my husbands phone. Called some of them, but it got me no where because the arse holes won't tell me who called them from our phone.

Oh, cinder, I'm so sorry to hear that. I've been in that situation and I know how frustrating and time-consuming it is. (((HUGS)))

We've spent so much time looking at the cyclist's remarks to the newspaper, but we haven't really looked at Mr Carpenter's comments on video (media). First of all, his timeline is consistent with the police timeline. He said that he saw the girls cycling on his street, Lake Avenue, between 12:00 and 3:00. We know that police have been able to narrow down that timeline to between 12:30 and 1:00, as they released a statement in September letting the public know that there was information that the children were at Elmer/Gilbert/Arbutus (also Lake Avenue) between 12:30-1:00. That is completely consistent with Mr Carpenter's statements.

We also know that Mr Carpenter recognized Elizabeth because he and his wife regularly saw Elizabeth cycling on the street in the evening. He said that Elizabeth regularly cycled to the end of Lake Avenue (to Arbutus) and back. We also have a statement from the great grandmother of a close friend of Elizabeth (who lives near the lake) stating that Elizabeth visited often.

The trip from Brovan to Lake Avenue would have been a normal bike ride for Elizabeth, so there is no reason to assume that anyone lured them to that point. If we accept that Elizabeth and Lyric cycled to Lake Avenue, travelling South to Arbutus, then the only possibility is that they were abducted exactly where their bikes were found, or at the entrance to Maiden Lane and their bikes were staged.

I rather doubt that their bikes were staged, as it is too risky to be seen with two bikes at the same time that two children vanish. That suggests that the children cycled directly to the drainage gate, parked their bikes, went through the gate, and vanished at the water's edge. It's possible that they were forced to walk in the shallow water towards Maiden Lane.

That pretty much brings me to the point of there actually being an incredible coincidence where a predator was at that location where the children were at the same time ... and I bet that this predator had a habit of going to the area of Arbutus and Maiden Lane several times before this happened. I suspect that the first contact between the predator and the children could have been at the corner of Lake Avenue and Arbutus.

I called the numbers that the thief made on my husbands phone and finally after telling this druggy that if she didn't cough up who called her yesterday on my husbands phone that I was going to give her number to the FBI ( I just said that to scare her), it worked she gave me a womans name and even where she lives. I called the detective who is handling our case and he said good job, this woman has a rap sheet a mile long, and we will get her. I cannot wait to press charges.

If the girls did bike on Lake Ave to get to the lake, would they have continued on Arbutus to the nature trail or would they have cut through on Maiden Lane? Is Maiden Lane still a declared road up to the pump station building? How would they know the Maiden Lane leads to the lake if the road had been abandoned years before?

ETA I am way behind reading, but this thought had crossed my mind and I finally decided to post it, thinking it would be in the middle of something else. Imagine my surprise when I looked two posts up and saw Otto has posted the same thoughts I had. Carry on!

At that triangle on the map is a path that runs thru maiden lane, a very narrow path and you can see the back yard of the secluded house there also. I rode my bike to the path but was too afraid to go in too far, it's that secluded.

I think that they would have cut across the grass field on the East side of the treed/fenced area around Maiden Lane.

Maiden lane is simply a cluster of trees and weeds with a small narrow path for walking in it. I don't think the girls started in maiden lanes thicket to get to the lake, although I do think the perp was hiding there.

That must be a different family, because the one in the article quoted by Considering is:

"On top of losing Lindsay, Nichols has also been touched by the loss of Elizabeth Collins. Nichols and her husband live near Meyers Lake in Evansdale, where Elizabeth and her cousin Lyric Cook were last seen. Before Elizabeth's disappearance and tragic death, she'd personally gotten to know her.

"That's just devastating, too. She was my little granddaughter, great-granddaughter's, best friend and just a beautiful little girl, beautiful smile. She loved to talk. It was just fun watching her," Nichols said."

http://www.kwwl.com/story/20414007/2012/12/23/one-family-impacted-by-two-tragedies

I checked, it appears they are related to the owners of the home improvement store right around the corner from Elizabeth's home. It was just a guess since it was so close to her home that maybe Elizabeth rode her bike there. Still in the Meyers Lake area...

I suspect the perp may be a college student that goes off to school. It is Spring break, we need to watch for suspicious behavior. I would like to see some type of surveillance at the area where the bodies were found. I hope the community keeps their eyes open wide also when schools break for summer. I don't know why I feel this way, it is just a hunch. I think a child is not quite so guarded when a person is closer to their age; maybe more trusting, like a brother-sister relationship.

I go to the Univ of Iowa and it freaks me out that someone who goes here could be responsible.

View attachment 30644 You can see on your right how thick maiden lane is.

I didn't realize how wooded that area is. Wow . . . it makes me feel really sad, thinking that Lyric and Lizzie may have walked through that area - either willingly or by force.

I wonder what they were feeling? Happy because they thought they were going with a friend? Slightly suspicious? Confused? Scared?

I pray that some vestige of forensic evidence was left behind that will lead to the arrest of the perp(s) who did this to two little girls.

Have been studying the aerial view of Meyers Lake. Another theory:

The girls may have entered the nature trail via Elmer Ave.

Someone very close by, either parked in the lot or living close by, may have seen the girls ride into the area to take the trail. The girls might have stopped momentarily in the parkette and were being watched there.

Looking at the aerial view of this area, a person could stand on the dock at Elmer Ave. and look across the lake and see that the girls stopped at the jetty.

The perp knew the area well, jumped in his vehicle, drove and parked in Maiden Lane and lured the girls from there.

With this theory, imo, I think the perp is living very close to the area of Elmer Ave. and Gilbert Ave. and lives alone.

IMO

Yeah I think the perp lives near the lake too, or did if not moved. I have always thought that Maiden Lane area suspect as where they departed from...I think they left the bikes rather willingly to follow someone<lured?>....to go someplace possibly close enough to go on foot, back in that immediate area.

and I dunno why, but I sometimes think once the perp is know, people are going to be surprised/shocked. imo
