I have e-mail alerts sent to me any time a new story comes out.

Hey, neighbor, so do I.

In my case, however, I went w/"google alerts" and perhaps fed the wrong words into my request. End result?: Approx. every wk google sends me yet another version of the ?BreakingNews that "the missing IA cousins have been found."

IMHO, of course...

Black Hawk County K9 Officer Loki to Recieve Bullet-Proof Vest Through National Fundraiser

Loki, a 2 year old Belgian Malinois, and the newest K-9 for the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office will be receiving a vest thanks to a nationwide Groupon Event. <snipped>

I owned a Belgian Malinois from a puppy until he passed away in his sleep at age 13, many years ago.

They make excellent police dogs, and I'm glad Loki will be receiving extra protection in the form of a bullet proof vest!

I use Google alerts, too - what did you put in your request? I put "Lyric Cook Elizabeth Collins" and haven't had a problem getting repetitive alerts.

There is obviously a clear lack of evidence. or at least not enough for a murder conviction.

Yessss... Yessss... Yessss... this simple statemt may, IMHO, be the best post I've ever seen here !!!!

Thank you, Arod.

Umm...how is "There's not a tree in the county that is safe from him" a good thing? What does that have to do with getting justice for Elizabeth and Lyric?

Drew cuts trees for a living; that might be what she means.

I believe the man is as frustrated as we are that there has been no arrests made in Elizabeth and Lyric's case. Maybe cutting down the trees on the island at Meyers Lake is cathartic for him. Are cutting down the trees getting justice for Elizabeth and Lyric? No, but perhaps cutting down trees keeps him from beating the living crap out of someone he thinks could be responsible for their deaths. Heather may find solace in reading the Bible and praying. Dan may find peace what he does for a living, trimming trees.

I can see both sides. I am sure there are people living at Meyers Lake that may not have wanted the island clear cut, but how many people are willing to confront an angry, possibly chainsaw-wielding, father of a murdered daughter?

I know someone posted a link to this article yesterday. . . however, when I try to back up to find the link, I have to refresh 4 or 5 times before the page will come up if then, so I am re-posting it (a HUGE thanks to whomever posted it first):

http://wcfcourier.com/news/local/ma...cle_eef89156-9070-11e2-917b-0019bb2963f4.html

Shaundell Lee Barrett, 45, of Fort Dodge, was arrested Sunday for third-degree sexual abuse. He was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail, and bond was set at $50,000.

Authorities allege Barrett had fondled a 12-year-old girl in October.

During the investigation, officers tested the girl’s shorts and other items and discovered seminal fluid on the clothing that matched Barrett’s DNA profile. The DNA results were completed in February, according to court records.

So, in this case, LE actually had some strong DNA samples. According to this article and how I am reading it, the guy did this in October and they got the DNA results back in February. . . 4 or 5 months to get results. It will be 5 months since our girls were found in April. Perhaps, we can expect some DNA results by next month ?

Yes, that's about the timeframe I would expect based on other cases I've seen.

That's assuming it's straightforward. If they have to go to more advanced techniques to replicate the DNA, it could take 18 months.

Thank you carbuff! I'm hoping at least one of the girls clawed the perp/perps and we have some good skin samples under the nails. I do think that might be preserved.

"Bump" means bringing up a previous post.

The symbol after that is to remind us not to break the rules.

Ty for answering a new poster's question!

Hang in there, MoonViolet, and welcome aboard! :seeya:

How does your child being murdered give you the right to commit deforestation? What about the people who bought homes in the area because they liked the ~woody/forest feeling? If someone who lived near the lake didn't like all the trees being cut down, not just for environmental reasons but also for aesthetics purposes, I'm not sure why that would be considered "confronting" someone or why this person should be worried about a violent reaction from Dan. But yeah, locals can't speak their minds about this without looking like jerks even if they have a legitimate complaint.

I've just glanced at the last page or so. Question; Does Drew have permission from the town or neighbors or community?
Just wondering.................. :seeya:

This image is from the Concert for the Angels facebook page. I have been trying to find the overall plan for the park renovation for a couple of weeks and all I can come up with is that there isn't an approved park plan, but there is an approved park renovation. This image further confirms my understanding that there is no plan

meyer_plan.jpg

In reading comments under articles related to the renovation, it seems that there is a lot of controversy surrounding this renovation.

Good question. Can you please share the "controversy"? Any links to this?
TIA.

OT and a sad note;
FBI dog killed in NY shootout was on 2nd mission

Ape was shot by Kurt Myers as it led the way for officers who stormed an abandoned bar where Myers was hiding early Thursday morning. Police say they cornered Myers after he killed four people and wounded two others the day before.

Myers shot at officers and hit Ape. Police returned fire and killed him.

Ape was a 2-year-old Czech German Shepherd that joined the FBI on Feb. 25 after completing a four-month tactical training course.

Ape's body will be taken to Quantico, Va., where the FBI Academy is located and a memorial will be held. Ape's name will be added to a memorial wall there.
Pic of Ape inside.

It seems like you have strong feelings about this. Not being snarky at all.:seeya:

I agree that there seems to have been a rush to get this project done, and I don't know how much community input there was prior to any work being started.

In addition to aesthetic purposes, I wonder about the birds that nested there, and other wildlife. But as you said, I doubt locals will complain because it would make them look like jerks. JMO

I live on a lake and many here would certainly speak up and speak out.
I really want more info on this. TIA.

Appreciated, thanks. What I want to know is; can anyone just go on public land and cut trees down?

Not in any place I've ever lived.

 • #1,140
I understand being upset at the trees all being chopped down. I'm not sure I even understand the reasoning behind cutting down trees. Don't most parks have trees? Are there plans of what the island is going to look like when they are done?
