That is strange.
Does anyone know the correct terminology for a sheet at a crime scene?
Do we have any pictures showing the sheets at a ground level?

May just be semantics. I suspect LE uses their own terminology. :twocents:

:what: GGA !! <omg simply wasn't strong enough to express my shock>

To me it does look like a rather large project. Not so much the gazebo itself, but the building of a road to the island. :twocents:

I didn't know a road was involved too.

$100k isn't going to cover it...sounds more like a quarter mill project to me.

Unless of course the labour and materials are donated...even then, it's a big project.

I suspect the Memorial on the Island thing will fall over when the costs are propertly calculated.

I can't I believe I missed seeing this before.....

Shawn Gant, 40, reportedly told the U.S. Attorney’s office he knew where the girls were.** He later denied making the claim.

Pic of "charmer" in link within link, thanks for finding it.
"
The Associated Press reports Shawn Gant, 40, was in the Cedar Rapids facility when he allegedly called the U.S. Attorney’s Office in August and September. During those calls, Gant reportedly left messages claiming he knew where Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins were and saying the girls would never be found"

I believe they were found on Wednesday December 5, and sent that same day The caption is saying the scene was Just being examined on Thursday. At least I Think that is right. But I read it the way you did at first, then remembered they were found on December 5.

Yes, exactly. Which is why I was suggesting that the sheets don't mark the location of bodies that had already been moved and processed, but rather other evidence sites.

Waaaaaaaaaay over. I am a decorator and I can tell you, unless you're really tough, most projects come out over budget.

They are building a ROAD out to the Island. :seeya:

It's an Island. Or rather it was an Island. I do believe they are building a road. What does that take? I have no idea.

But I would guess heavy equipment, lots of raw materials, donated(?) materials and lots of manpower.
IMHO, large equipment doesn't come cheap. IMHO, $100,000 is the tip of the iceberg. :twocents:

I agree completely, hence my comment:

"Some may block it out". They may block it out by distractions. (choose your own definition).

Some people -- including but not limited to gregarious ones and ADHD ones -- respond to the situation they find themselves in. So if they're in a social situation where everybody around them is having a good time, even if it's a serious situation, they may respond socially. I know I've had incidents in the past where I responded inappropriately in a grief situation -- for instance, being with family and friends I hadn't seen for a long time gave me happiness at my grandmother's funeral after I got done crying.

The road would only be about 20 feet maybe 30 to the little island.

In the last press conference when the bodies were found, Adden said that when the autopsy report is in and the parents have been notified then he will notify the public. Yeah right.

It's a 25 to 30 foot dirt road. Here in Iowa thats not a major thing.

IMHO, we just don't know. We can only guess and speculate.

This is something called a "public work".

Public works are always far more expensive.

You can't price this the same you would a dirt road up to your shack...apples and oranges.

There are all sorts of experts involved in erecting a permanent public structure, each of which takes their slice of the pie, including insurance companies, structural engineers, architects, government officals...the list goes on.

And I used to work for the City.

The rule of thumb is "take the quote and triple it".

Things that involve government tend to be dogged by delays, revisions, desk hopping.

When I built my house, the builders quoted me x amount and promised it was fixed, then 6 weeks later told me how much they had lost on the quote in between times due to the cost of materials rising.

I also used to work for a Decorating/building company and every month would send clients the new list of price rises, along with their statement. Building materials (here at least) increase in price almost monthly.

Being in Iowa or NYC has nothing to do with it - if anything, the prices in Iowa may even be higher due to transportation costs, labour costs, and a lack of competition between suppliers.

I agree Sapphire and I am from/live in Iowa.

I wouldn't be surprised if public donations of time/labor/money pulls it off due to the publicity though. IMO only.

BBM. Can you please provide a linK? TIA.

I have no idea what it costs to "build a road", on a lake, through water, 20 or 30 feet. :twocents:
