and town is not in a PANIC?????

I would say those with kids are in an "Iowa panic," which, as mentioned by an earlier poster, would be subdued. I would never let anyone know I'm panicking, but looking into other parents' eyes when I've gone over to the lake lately, or at the gas station, etc, we are all panicking on the inside.

Think duck on water: calm and graceful on top, paddlin like a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 underneath.

snipped for brevity- oh Hollye, that made me think of a place a friend found yesterday poking around-
Deerwood Park campground +42.46075, -92.30817
and I also noticed a Bamboo Ridge campground and read about it - locals is it open now?? +42.44956, -92.31872

both are very closeby- I wonder if LE checked for any checkouts around Friday/Sat??
Or if anyone noticed any 'unusual' guests?

Don't know of 'unusual' guests. Deerwood Campground is very close, maybe a mile or so west of Meyers Lake. Lots and lots of people live there thru the summer, tho...its like a club, would be hard to slip in or out unnoticed. Bamboo Ridge? Never heard of it, tbh.

I wish I had the transcript because I do not want to misquote her...but something to the fact that she did not want to know who they are that may of taken her daughter and niece...she said that several times in the interview

I can tell you that locals here generally know of one strong group involved in the meth trade (altho too many individuals are involved as well). I've got limited knowledge of how they operate, but they are essentially a biker gang, ruthless, and you simply don't throw out accusations in their direction and not expect repercussions, so I will not. Yes, it's like that. If they had my kids - and I honestly don't know how or if they would have the capability - I might not want to know that. When I was in college, a good friend got stuck and somehow owed them a large sum of money immediately. He gave away all his possessions he couldn't carry and went to Tibet, almost overnight. He did eventually come back, but never really got comfortable in this area again, lives in CA now. I would also imagine there are many in the area who have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, and this group would like to keep it thus. I have no doubts, however, that LE is aware and somewhat knowledgeable of their local activities.

If they were delusional from meth usage when they took the polygraph it could alter the results. One would assume that LE would be able to identify a subject on meth
(pupils severely dilated, rapid speech, euphoria/altered mood, cotton mouth, lip licking) and someone who was delusional.

what if they were going through withdrawal? would that change results?

I have always had an issue with this. I think there is a strong possibility that MCM had an incling that her daughter might be in danger, due to her husband's meth dealings. It seems like too much of a coincidence that only days before LCM goes missing....family thinks she MIGHT be missing. Was there a possibility that a veiled threat came from the nefarious meth users/dealers that might be tied to her husband. I'm hoping that LCM and cousin are just being held for a short time, in order to secure DM's cooperation in possibly not trying to cut a deal with LE regarding info he might have on others. Hope above makes sense.:blushing:

It makes sense. Also when DM was on tv talking about misty calling him and telling him about lyric not coming home, the first thing out of his mouth was to tell misty to call the cops and report her missing

I'm in my 30's and nap almost everyday... with a tv on.... and my phone in my hand.
People like this ARE out there, fwiw!

The second one linked is a Pretty new campground that is just starting up near the newer watermark and casino. As far as I know, it's not heavily populated at this point and would involve the interstate to get near there.

This is an unfair and untrue interpretation. I cannot speak for Dan and Misti, I don't know them, and I only barely know Drew, have never met Heather that I can recall (although she looks so familiar to me). AFAIK, Drew and Heather have always been active in church. To hear them referencing their faith is nothing new, and from what I've seen/heard the same goes for their children. Dan and Misti, as I understand it, have been more than forthcoming with the problems in their past, recent and distant, and ALL members of both families, by accounts of LE and reporters, has been of cooperation. The only anomaly is when Dan grew tired of being accused and left an interview, from what I understand.

I hate what I've seen meth do to this state. I've been personally affected, with close family and friends having gotten caught in meth's grip. There surely are drug-filled and violent homes in the area, but we read about them, we know about them. You simply cannot keep secrets like that for too long in a town this size, even in Waterloo. I've seen children who've grown up in violent, drug-filled homes, and neither Elizabeth nor Lyric - or any of the other children in the families - displays evidence of such.

As far as I know, misty did her time and has not had any further legal trouble. My understanding is that she found God in prison and has been that way since her departure from prison. Dan has obviously had more recent run ins with the law. They have not tried to hide anything and were very forthcoming about criminal issues so I don't understand why someone would think they are trying to hide them. I'm sure they're not proud of them but are doing what needs to be done to help find the girls and i can admire both of them for being so open about them instead of making the media dig for it. Odds are though that lyric did see more "friends" in their lives than many of our kids because of meth. He odds are also good that she was more self sufficient and grown up than oter kids her age because of it. It does play a role but I didn't feel like any of that was being hidden.

I wonder if LE has issued any advisories in relation to keeping a close eye on your children. Or are they just going on as business as usual like there aren't two young girls missing......

They are relating this as missing persons and not an abduction, so they are leading us to business as usual. They have portrayed there is no further risk to the public though I am quite sure no one here is taking it that way.

Whomever did this, may have never done (acted it out to competion)this before, but it's an almost certainty that they had imagined it many, many times before. Where they go, what they would do, and I think they saw their opportunity and took it...just like they had imagined so many times before.
They may have even done a "dry run" before, practicing the best lures, the best times, ect.. ect...
It in effect could look very planned out, when in fact it was opportunistic, but it had been carefully rehearsed, and so it would make it look very organized.
MOO.

I agree!

Many predators are constantly on the prowl, on the alert for an opportunity. They aren't targeting a particular person, they're looking for the chance. If the chance is there, they will take it.

Ollipop

Are people scared and keeping their children close or is it business as usual in little town america. I would think people would be really worried and watching their children very closely.

Unlike business as usual, I have seen literally no children without parents lately. None, nowhere. And, as you know, I live virtually across the street from one of the more popular areas for kids, and have many, many kids in my neighborhood. People are worried, very much so. Nervous, cautious, but also looking out for each other, as we do. I suppose its part of what Grahine (sp) said earlier. We talk to strangers. I was always taught that a stranger is a friend I haven't met yet. We make eye contact, we say hello, whether we know you or not. That part of "business as usual" is actually even stronger, but kids are not roaming without parents, no.

I agree. If the girls were given the freedom to ride around, and run around town for hours, I wouldn't think the first thought would be panic and call both the moms to the house unless there was a reason to be. Wouldn't most give the kids a while to come back, and then let them have it for being out of touch for too long?

I know times are different, but frankly I'm amazed that the girls were given as much freedom as they were considering their ages. Not being judgmental, it just seems children seem to stay closer to home these days, or aren't given permission to spend so much time away from home unsupervised. Just because of the way the world is nowadays.

Yes! I remember being suspicious of that too. I'm really convinced this is not a random abduction. Lyric could have been the intended target, but seeing as she is usually accompanied by one of her cousins/friends...no choice but to take both.

You know what else is related to meth usage? Cotton mouth, lip licking, and euphoria

I only saw a brief interview with DM, so I might have missed something, but why the emphasis on lip licking? Or does that refer to someone else?

  • #852
She might be off, or she might be referring to the woods to the west of the lake. I haven't seen JVM (honestly don't even know what JVM stands for). Those woods might be about 500 yards away from where the bikes were found. They're less dense, though, and the girls would have to walk the length of the lake, in plain view of anyone across the lake (see my pics) and anyone on the road.
FYI - JVM is Jane Velez Mitchell. She has a talk show right before NG (Nancy Grace).

Hope that helps!

although we here feel alittle removed from missing children until now, I tend to agree with you especially since hey had just had a "false alarm" with LCM just a few days prior.

Is that campground open? I know the land directly across from the casino/waterpark entrance was sold for a convenience store and eventual campground (My father is in real estate) but I wasn't sure that was operating yet?

I know of the larger operation that Grainne/Ollie (I'm sorry, I'm exhausted and lazy. ;) ) are speaking of. Typically they'll have nothing to do with the rinky dink in-home (small scale) meth labs. More than likely they're cooking for themselves and/or friends. A good friend of mine in Iowa City was on the Meth Task force for a long time (An actual meth-centered crime force for Johnson county and surrounding areas... how sad is that? Our small state needs one.) and a dear friend's husband is undercover in a sting closer to the Illinois boarder. They've both said that it is more typical for smaller cooking operations to be self sustaining, meaning that the people have the need, and not the bank roll to purchase, so they cook on their own. This leads me to think that, in my opinion, it wouldn't be a jilted drug deal leading to the disappearance of these young girls. I'm still with those that believe AN ABDUCTION was planned, not necessarily targeting Elizabeth and Lyric.

It just seems too coincidental to me that there is all of this meth stuff going on and the girls disappear...JMO

I think she is a just a big boned, muscular girl and it's prolly correct at 145. Muscle weighs more that fat (denser). My grandmother was polish/swedish and the same. I don't know what she weighed, but at 5' 9" her body was like a linebackers. You no mess with her! Me....like your DD. :)

Good point. My husband loves those "guess your weight" things at the fair because they're always off by at least 25 lbs. He's just very muscular, runs in the family.

(sorry if my comments are way off, I'm still catching up on several pages)

it ismy experience (ex inlaws) that were arrested for conspiracy to manufacture meth with meth precursers, a plea deal=ratting off other...JMO

That seems to be a pretty popular method used in plea deals in Iowa. Having worked in a law office in Iowa for awhile, I have seen meth charges completely erased from the record after someone rolled on another.

true that most meth labs here are "garbage pail meth labs" and rinky dink...however I find it odd that DM is getting a plea deal with so many priors... like I said before usually plea deal=giving up someone else.
