On one hand I'm wondering if Lyric was not allowed to have contact with her father and he was the one that orchestrated some "reunion" to meet at this secluded spot at the Lake. Would explain why they went "that far" although the family says they would never go there on their own. Something happened, Dad high on meth, had a drug buddy with him (sweet Shaniya comes to mind).....

On the other hand, if he's been cleared by alibi/ witnesses that place him elsewhere etc...I hope LE doesn't focus on him because of his past/present. Granted he's a low life and apparently so was the Mom, which would def explain the lack of supervision, but it doesn't mean that his daughter doesn't deserve the same time/effort looking elsewhere.

It has been reported (can't give a citation, sorry) that DC's mother and 16 year old son were with him during the entire time period. That son is Lyric's brother. I think it's unlikely that they would both lie to cover for DC and that they could both do so convincingly.

I wouldn't call either DM or MC low lifes but that's just me. Like you, I hope LE isn't focusing on DM on no other basis than his legal problems.

I may be a bit skewed, but I am kinda surprised that any household in 2012 does not have a working computer with internet access.

Even cases we read about where the family is all but destitute, they have FB pages and play Farmville and have commented on a blog and have email.

This is really the first hinky feeling I have gotten over the family. No working computer in over 6 months? Really?

And FTR, I totally accept that I may not have a true picture of average America.

not unusual in a small town in my experience

five people I work with either have no computers or have one that's 'broken'

Well good lord! No wonder these people are none stop talking about religion and God and their faith! IMHOO they're trying to cover up their own bad actions. Sorry but according to this article and according to JVM's coverage tonight, these children were in drug filled/drug making, possibly violent homes.... :banghead:

Or not, if they mostly lived with grandma. I hope.

(still catching up)

<snipped for space> Someone dressed as an authority figure, maybe like a police officer, (wasn't there recent info about a police impersonator?) came up to them and told them that they were in trouble for going onto the jetty and would need to come with him. Being an authority figure, they would have been scared, but cooperative, and gone with him (purse and bikes forgotten), east down the path and through the wooded area to his waiting car/truck, which was sitting inconspicuously, off the road by the pump house, maybe with a light on it to make it look more real.

:( I hadn't even thought of this but it seems like a probable scenario. I doubt kids would even notice to see if the light was on or it looked real, once they saw an authority figure.

why? O/T but.....There has been a slew of attempted abductions of girls in and around the area of Peru, Illinois (north central) Here's form our local paper newstrib.com

He was not successful, but they don't stop until they get what they want, very scary. The van has no windows except up front.

The white van.... I wonder is there is a 'club' of pedofiles who all own a white van. It was mentioned in the Isabel Celis threads so I checked my state and sure enough there were attempted abductions in Charleston, WV using a white van. So strange.

There are houses on one side of the lake, and the interstate is on the other. I've never seen a boat on the lake. Granted, I've only lived here a year and only drive by it probably 1-3 times a week, I've never seen a boat, and I'm not sure why a boat would go on it, as it isn't very big.

Other locals: Do you think Aunt Tammy may be "off" on her distances? On JVM she'd say "It was about 300 yards that way and then 300-500 yards..." that's 3-5 football fields! I don't really think that area is that big? Am I way off base here? For her to say the dogs ran 300-500 yards into the wooded area seemed really far off to me.

HA!

As someone who has dealt with many tracklayers, I can say that from my personal experience, most people have not the faintest clue about distances over about 10 feet, unless there is some sort of marker to indicate distance (like on a highway).

I learned real fast not to tell someone to make a turn "after they've gone 30 yards." That turn would end up at some random distance but definitely not anywhere near 30 yards.

Heck, it's tough to teach people to walk a straight line (hint: put on a baseball cap with a little piece of tape on the brim; line up the tape with something on the horizon and keep it lined up as you walk).

I wish I could walk with her out to the site and have her show me landmarks where the dogs started, hesitated, turned, circled, stopped, etc.

Search for missing girls causes tensions to rise

Info I wasn't aware of-Lyric was going to run away not long ago (according to Grandma). This appears to be a separate incident from the incident when her mother thought she was missing.

Wow..she had actually packed her bag,and was headed out the door...because GM says that her dad was "mad at her " for not completing her chores...But...didn't some family members say that these girls never ventured far from home ?

I kept meaning to try to find out : how much $$$ did the girls have,if any, when they left GM's house that early afternoon ? TIA, to anyone who might know...

Info I wasn't aware of-Lyric was going to run away not long ago (according to Grandma). This appears to be a separate incident from the incident when her mother thought she was missing.

Wylma Cook on Wednesday confirmed that Lyric had tried to run away from home several days before the cousins were reported missing. She said Lyric packed a bag after her father got mad at her for not completing her chores.

“She headed for the door, and I grabbed her,” Cook said. “She dropped the backpack and I hugged and kissed her and I said it’ll be OK.”

Wow...that pebble creates a whole new ripple effect!

I think it's one of those 'psychics' who, after an arrest is made & they are proven wrong, we never hear from again ... until the next case that is

That's what I'm afraid of. But then I had a crazy thought...what if they had insider information?

"Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputy Rick Abben said during a news briefing that the family has been “very cooperative with law enforcement and (authorities have) no reason to believe they played a role in the disappearance at this time.”

He said officials do not believe foul play was involved in the girls’ disappearance. He also said no search warrants have been issued."

What does that leave? Runaways or drowning victims. Is that what Rick Abben is implying?

Have there been any searches? Is the Sheriffs position an elected one? He best not be wrong, or out he goes!!

Maybe Ollie has some insight on that house too. Early this fall it looked like they were trying to build a structure. Sadly, it looked as though it was being built by someone who had no business doing so. It was old boards, things were very uneven, it was just strange. Then, over the months, it looked like someone had been taking it all back apart and then there was nothing there really. I remember having some conversations with my husband when we were riding the trail about what on earth they were doing there.

I don't know anything about it. My experiences seeing it parallel yours. Weird, though, huh? WTF are they doing, lol?

What I just don't get is, if a perp wanted to get rid of a cell phone/purse, why go all the way to the fence? Why not just chuck it in the lake?

You could very easily throw the phone/purse over either fence from anywhere you could stand right there. It wouldn't require you to "go all the way to the fence," because you are in the shadow of both fences simultaneously.

maybe they are thinking that it woud then label it as an "ubduction" and they don't seem to be ready to do that yet....another question I would have is if DM's arrest was from a Tri-County Drug Task Force investigation...if so, their undercovers would probably have info regarding if this was something perpetrated by his drug contacts.

Yes, i was thinking this. Tri-County has had a busy summer from what I hear.

I have always had an issue with this. I think there is a strong possibility that MCM had an incling that her daughter might be in danger, due to her husband's meth dealings. It seems like too much of a coincidence that only days before LCM goes missing....family thinks she MIGHT be missing. Was there a possibility that a veiled threat came from the nefarious meth users/dealers that might be tied to her husband. I'm hoping that LCM and cousin are just being held for a short time, in order to secure DM's cooperation in possibly not trying to cut a deal with LE regarding info he might have on others. Hope above makes sense.:blushing:

Was it really just days before? I hadn't heard that. I agree that there is a real possibility that her father owes someone money, or his source (unless he's cooking meth himself - I dunno) is afraid he's about to roll over. Its just as plausible, IMO, as is the theory that a random or known person caught those girls in just the right spot at the lake.

It makes sense. Also when DM was on tv talking about misty calling him and telling him about lyric not coming home, the first thing out of his mouth was to tell misty to call the cops and report her missing

This is telling as well. My first thought, if I was stuck at home w/o a vehicle, would be, "come get me and we'll go look." He's obviously been around LE too much for his own comfort lately, and to immediately think to get them involved once again in his daily life leads me to think he may have been worried about something like this occurring.

FYI - JVM is Jane Velez Mitchell. She has a talk show right before NG (Nancy Grace).

Hope that helps!

Aha, lol. Well, that clears that up. I'm obviously new here. The Nancy Grace episode covering the girls was the first I'd ever seen her, as well. Heard the name before, obv, but never saw the face or the show. A bit aggressive, I guess that's the whole point though, eh? How does JVM compare to NG?

The second one linked is a Pretty new campground that is just starting up near the newer watermark and casino. As far as I know, it's not heavily populated at this point and would involve the interstate to get near there."

Is that campground open? I know the land directly across from the casino/waterpark entrance was sold for a convenience store and eventual campground (My father is in real estate) but I wasn't sure that was operating yet?

I know of the larger operation that Grainne/Ollie (I'm sorry, I'm exhausted and lazy. ;) ) are speaking of. Typically they'll have nothing to do with the rinky dink in-home (small scale) meth labs. More than likely they're cooking for themselves and/or friends. A good friend of mine in Iowa City was on the Meth Task force for a long time (An actual meth-centered crime force for Johnson county and surrounding areas... how sad is that? Our small state needs one.) and a dear friend's husband is undercover in a sting closer to the Illinois boarder. They've both said that it is more typical for smaller cooking operations to be self sustaining, meaning that the people have the need, and not the bank roll to purchase, so they cook on their own. This leads me to think that, in my opinion, it wouldn't be a jilted drug deal leading to the disappearance of these young girls. I'm still with those that believe AN ABDUCTION was planned, not necessarily targeting Elizabeth and Lyric.

I agree, the odds seem remote, but if there is "organized crime" here, that is it. And the complete lack of clues leads me to believe something here was organized.

That seems to be a pretty popular method used in plea deals in Iowa. Having worked in a law office in Iowa for awhile, I have seen meth charges completely erased from the record after someone rolled on another.

There's been a lot of "rollings" this year. That seems to be Tri-County Drug Taskforce's favored method of operation.

true that most meth labs here are "garbage pail meth labs" and rinky dink...however I find it odd that DM is getting a plea deal with so many priors... like I said before usually plea deal=giving up someone else.

And, with a sheet like that, they're not looking for you to roll on some other rinky dink. They want Mr. Big. And Mr. Big in this area brags about his lawlessness.

Haha~ Truth! She was referring to the dogs beginning on the south side of the lake, heading "200-300 yards" (?) to the bikes (East) and then "300-500 yards" further into the woods/trail from what I gathered... I was thinking "Well, you just ran to the Flying J Truckstop." ;)

Why was Dan's poly last?

That's what I wondered and why I asked earlier about if meth would in any way alter drug test results. (still catching up so apologies if it's already been answered)

If people are thinking the bikes were taken and dropped by other than the girls, were the bikes tested for fingerprints? Was the phone or the little purse? What all was printed? The more areas, like the end of the fence, or the top of the fence if someone may have jumped it, or some of these areas you think the girls might have been in, how difficult would it be to print these things as opposed to possibly overlooking something important. Like the garage? Who owns it and where are they and was the lock looked at for prints. Or windows, whatever. Especially since you're saying rain is impending and is going to impede the investigation.
OKAY WebSleuthers: WHERE DO YOU THINK PRINTS SHOULD BE TAKEN? How about it Ollipop and the others that know the area. Where do you think is a good place for potentially important prints?

Sheriff Tony Thompson is the elected Blk Hawk Co Sheriff....Rick Abben would be a Deputy Sheriff and that is a hired position.
