I read that the guy who saw the bikes on the trail didn't call in til later in the day, after he heard that the kids were missing. I also read that the police had already found the bikes by the time they got his call (I'll see if I can find any links to support this anywhere). If this is true, then why did the police swarm the lake area so quickly? I'm trying to figure out if it was because some guy told the aunt that he had seen the kids on the trail shortly before she asked about them? If so, then when police were called, someone in the family could have advised police that the kids were spotted near the lake etc....

I'm *really* hoping there is some info on who the witness is and that he has been grilled seven ways from Sunday by police! I would really hate to think that the guy the aunt talked to might have been somehow involved in an abduction, and he just slipped away quietly after the aunt talked to him! I'm also wondering if he stayed around to help out in any way??

I remember reading that the Aunt said that LE has the name of the man she spoke with at the lake ? So, hopefully he has been interviewed. A lot. JMO

Are the parents of Lyric living together or are they separated? Anyone? TIA

Here is a weird question.... Is there anyone in the town who has "led a campaign” to get that area of the trail widened or the fence fixed? Obviously, it sounds like even adult males get a bit creeped out going there. The reason why I ask is living in many small towns; there is always someone who seems fixated on some flaw that the town/city needs to correct. They attend city council meetings, get on the record, talk to newspapers, etc...To the point that people in the town roll eyes when they speak (talk to the hand). Often times the fixation is related other issues, not really the issue at hand, but it escalates when they are not heard and catered to. I have read of cases where people felt trails were unsafe for off road bikes, motorcycles, etc. And the very people complaining sometimes start “manifesting” the dangers. For example, placing wires across trails that injure or even kill off roaders, of mountain bikers, etc. Disabling bridges...It is like they get so fixated on the cause that they eventually manifest the worst case scenario to get the issue resolved. I am not saying the average concerned citizen would abduct children to get a point across. But, there are people out there that finally “snap” and manufacture crime, drama, etc so they get resolution to one of their pet projects or get their way. It usually isn’t the project itself, but, the gnawing fixation or need and the rejection that leads them to seek a drastic and immediate resolution of the turmoil inside. I am just wondering if there have been any stead-fast, outspoken community members who are super passionate about fixing that trail or area. If so, are they being looked at? If so, any chance what had started as a “case in point” for their mission is snowballing out of control. Just curious…

The FBI divers may be deployed. It says they may send them in to search the deeper pockets of water.

If they're draining the lake, why would divers be needed now?

TIA

Did anyone else see this?

You are referring to this right?

This is from HLN, correct? This was touched on a few minutes ago. Basically, what I heard is a parent said on HLN that Lyric went missing a few days prior but returned home. I haven't seen the HLN coverage though so I don't know for sure what was said on the program. That is just what commenters who saw the program have said. But, we did ask police and they don't have any report of Lyric being missing.

Wow. They must be pretty certain the girls are in the lake. Dredged it, draining it, and now divers. Is the bottom weedy? Would a body get tangled in the weeds and not rise?

Snipped by me. Yes, that happens quite frequently. In fact, even with strong adults (including Iron man triathletes) entrapment in weeds, freshwater or seaweed is one of the biggest causes of drowning. The sensation is horrible and people panic quickly. The more you struggle, the more you get tangled up...Add some mud and sediment to the bottom and your struggle could partially pack you into the lake bed. However, the only thing that is odd it that flip-flops float and any struggle with feet kicking, etc would dislodge a flip-flop and have it float to the surface. That is of course, unless they went into a very marshy area and stepping in the mud sucked off the shoes…Mud can pull of boots, tennis shoes, etc and fully encase them. But, it seems odd that with 2 potential bodies, one has not been found yet…as I would assume the scenarios for drowning would have not been exactly the same. One tries to save the other. I also think by this time, with methane build up and osmosis at least one body would have floated to the surface now. IMOO.

LE are clearly and distinctly discounting (without specifically saying it) the reported sighting of the two girls by Robert Carpenter whose wife was out delivering newspapers between 1-3pm on July 13th. Why? Why? Why? All my opinion and all the regular disclaimers.

This is what leads me to believe that they have a timeframe thatthey are not releasing but why?

I still think they were groomed.. Now one of the Mom's says they went swimming just about everyday, for the last 6 weeks. I think that's were they met whoever disappeared them..
moo

We went to the beach yesterday that the mother says they swam at often. It's nice, for Iowa. I fear you may be correct. I saw a vehicle cruise slowly through the parking lot when we were leaving, lone male inside, clearly gawking at my wife/kids as he crept by. I watched him continue through the lot, ominously slowly, then exit the park and get on the highway (by that time we were well behind him). I realize I am more sensitive/paranoid today than, say, a week ago, but the possibility is surely there.

And FTR, that beach is at George Wyth State Park, where the town next to us borders the next town over, so its not somewhere the girls would have ridden their bikes. They wouldn't be there without someone who could drive them. If they were spotted there/followed, the perp would have to have kept up on a 4-laned divided highway as they left. Not impossible, but less-likely.

I remember this case very well. I was about Johnny's age, and had a paper route at the time. It was very frightening for me and my parents - our paper gave us whistles and flashlights, taught us stranger safety, etc. I've continued to follow his case and have read his mother's account of what has transpired since, and it is incredibly creepy, and for some reason I remember there being some connection to a pedo-ring in Nebraska where the prosecutor suddenly went missing, and to the Sandusky case. I'm not sure if they were connected, or reports were comparing the cases. The point is, these sick people have a network in this country. It is scary, creepy, and maddening.

We're not going to discuss the family's demeanor at this stage of the game. The family is off limits unless news comes out that changes that course. We don't even know for sure if a crime has been committed yet! Let's be kind to them, folks.

A reminder from last night.

I was thinking when I walked over to get the pic that there would be one there. I know there is one nearby, maybe on its own sign back to the left of this one. Not sure where, but my wife and I know there is signage to that effect somewhere. Remember, we are here very often, but today was weird: so many people, news crews, LE, that we didn't feel comfortable. It was like having strangers in our living room. And the fact that we couldn't take the trail around the lake meant I really couldn't get the pics I truly wanted. (I wanted to make a vid of the walk thru the tight area, may yet at some time if it becomes accessible.)

:yourock: and the pics are great!!!! THANK YOU!

You are referring to this right?

When I was watching it (HLN interview in question), mom had said that they couldn't find Lyric and as soon as they called the cops, she walked in the door. I take that to mean no report filed. HTH

i agree.. the purse with the game phone inside it was thrown over the fence as we understand it, right?

that means.. that someone just didn't drop it and run off to catch a crawdad.. that means from where the bikes were found and the purse was found the girls maybe didn't likely have time to move the bikes off the trail but just stopped. so what could have stopped them? why in that area? not a good area to de-bike and walk around if you are just cruising.

someone was in the path directing them to something else most likely.. either that or they stopped and were just taken advantage of for stopping in that area by someone preying upon it.

This was most likely an impulse grab and no one saw it. I still think this may be what happened.. I think someone took the chance and ran with it.. and it may be someone off the radar. It may be hard to capture this person unless fbi puts out a profile and what they are looking for and what has happened. I hope that comes next. Yes, they are putting a lot of weight into the lake. But they have to clear it.

They have to.

So we all have to wait. As do the families of these girls. My prayers are with them. I cannot imagine what they are going thru.

I know this sounds cliche, but ESPECIALLY since they are 8 and 10, and girls, the "distraction" could have been a man with a leash who stopped them to ask if they had seen his dog, and then enlisted their help to look for it. Little girls love animals, and often also want to be helpful to adults.

This is where my head is as well. With the other instance of Lyric being away further and longer than she was supposed to be, I think she may have a "friend" she is meeting. Unfortunately this person may not be her friend at all.

Or she is just a normal kid who forgets time, is impulsive and gets wrapped up in what she is doing. I have one child (her age) who has no concept of time...lol and I make him carrying a cell-phone. And half the time he forgets his phone. It is a constant thing, "do you have your cell phone? Set the alarm on your iPod". Etc. He even recognizes that his concept of time is not developed yet...LOL. He is just acting his age. My other child, was very different at that age...every kid is different but sounds to me like she may just be acting like a normal 10 year old...IMOO

Especially since they have a pump helping to speed up the process. They should be able to move the pump/ suction hose and just pump out the deep pockets.

Ollipop... Is there Public Transportation in this area... i.e. Buses?

  • #278
Interesting and confusing. Not sure why they're sending the FBI divers in now. Shouldn't they have done that before draining the lake?:waitasec:

  • #279
Thanks Ollipop so much for all the pics...especially these 3. I'm beginning to think this where a vechicle could have been waitng for them. Your thoughts? Can you clearly see the pump house and it's "driveway" from the road? Would a person casually driving by take notice you think? Thanks again. :thumb:

Yes...I was essentially standing in the road for the first couple pics. It wasn't always so clear, as I thought I remembered from years past not even really being able to see what this building was, but with the flooding and draining of the lake the last couple years, it looks to have been cut back and is now very visible. In fact, if you turn and look north from the pump house, you can almost see up the street to the police station.
