I have been hit by lightning 8 times, but have never been abducted. I had an adult male stalking me when I was Lyric's age, but he never got his hands on me.

I hope I'm never standing next to you if it starts to storm.

I'm not sure why Lyric height and weight are being discussed. IMO its not relative and shouldn't be discussed. Regardless of height, weight and whether she was or wasn't bullied should not matter. She's still missing.

I agree about her being missing, and I so hope she's found alive and safe and SOON.

I don't know if you were responding to me or the general discussion but I did hesitate to post anything about that for quite awhile. But then I thought about it more - how she looks and how someone would see her out in public IS important isn't it? (IMO) I'm not for a second making judgments. I just know if I was looking for an "8" and "10" year old I'd have a heckuva time knowing what to look for and I think an idea of their build helps along with pics of their faces.

Edited to add in case it wasn't obvious I hope BOTH girls are found alive, safe, soon.

I'm very glad they are taking the measure of draining the lake. Even if they don't find anything useful in there, then at least the parents and loved ones will know that there was no chance of something in there having been missed! I hope they find the girls and bring them home safe and sound, but I do admit, my gut on this is that they've been taken, and the bikes and purse were staged to throw investigators off. :(

The purse being over the fence makes me lean towards an abduction. But I also think back to when I was a kid, summer boredom kicking in and the dumb dangerous things we'd do. Of course as a kid we never thought about danger and it's a miracle we never got hurt. I have friends who's kids got lost in a public sewer system for a day because they wanted to check it out. My late husband and his brothers used to run out and grab on to the axle of single engine planes taking off then letting go, before the got too high in the air.

I guess my point is, I hope LE has checked out every nook and cranny.

Actually, I would stand beside them, just because odds are the lightening would find them well before me, if past history is any indication. :D

Can any of the locals direct me to the Garbage Pick-Up Days, and does anyone know if the Garbage has been diverted from the landfills since the girls went missing?

Several sources have confirmed that law enforcement officials have called for all residential and commercial trash in the city of Evansdale to be set aside in the Black Hawk County landfill to be searched through by those involved in the ongoing investigation.

Brett Vette, administrator of the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission, confirmed that law enforcement were searching through garbage dumped at the county landfill Monday. However, no such activity was reported on Tuesday.

Debbie Acklin of Black Hawk Waste Disposal has also confirmed such proceedings are taking place.

"I can confirm that all Evansdale trash is being segregated in the Black Hawk County Landfill for law enforcement to search if they so choose," Acklin said.

With all respect, height and weight are so important they are always listed and mentioned in missing cases... and bullying is nothing like it was decades ago. Today, some kids and teens tend to be much more violent. It may be relevant, imo.

Ollipop...how is the lake looking now? Getting close to a low level?

I dunno...I'll go look after lunch. But I thought the 3-day estimate was a bit aggressive, tbh. I remember it seeming to take a month to drain that lake last time. It was just ugly and stinky near there for weeks, although I'm probably remembering the whole time, which includes how long it took to fill back up.

A few questions for locals who are familiar with the lake/trail:

Early in the last thread, there was a media quote that said the bikes were located very close to a gate in the lake side fence that was unlocked/unlatched (not sure of the exact wording.) Can anyone tell me if this gate is normally kept locked?

Could someone hide/lay in wait near the gate on the lake side, either ducked down, behind vegetation, etc without being easily seen from the trail?

Also could someone describe the "rocks" that extend into the lake in that area. By rocks does that mean good sized stones, or gravel? Is the area raised above the water? Could someone walk out on it? If so, might the rocks be slippery? (I know there have been reports of the water level being lower than usual - could that have exposed seaweed/slime that might be slippery and could lead to someone falling?)

I am picturing a "jetty" of larger stone that the girls might have walked out on - if one slipped, perhaps hit her head, and the other tried to help her.... However, I don't know if my mental image of the area is accurate.

There's a gate, with a latch, that I believe had been padlocked before the lake was drained and refilled last time. That was also when they built up the jetty, made of small white gravel rocks - kinda like you'd use to cover a landscaping feature.

A couple years ago we were on a walk there, and there was a large snapping turtle teetering on the edge of the drain pipe that we stopped to watch for a bit. I remember the kids being worried he was going to fall in. At that time, there was no jetty visible, just a big pipe right at water's surface with water rushing into it. My wife and I commented how scary that looked. It's like an open manhole, 20 feet out in the lake. I'm pretty sure the gate was padlocked at that time.

Then they drained and refilled the lake. Sometime in there they built up that jetty, presumably so you could walk out to open/close that pipe w/o getting wet. The padlock disappeared. Yes, you could walk out on it and yes, it could be slippery. The pipe, from what I understand, was improved to have grates, although the way the police described it in his press conference it was more like a series of smaller pipes, about 3-inch diameter, and 3 inches apart.

It wouldn't be an opportune spot to "lay in wait," though. You'd have a hard time not being seen as the lake is literally right up to the trail there, separated only by that fence, and the jetty is too narrow for even two people to pass. Also, as evidenced by my photos, someone "laying in wait" there would easily be spotted from across the lake. More likely would be where the fence ends. Someone linked a good twitter post-pic of that spot, and another was on Nancy Grace, I'll try to find it.

Also, the gate opens out to the lake, so if you were on that side, waiting, you'd have to swing the gate open towards you while you were precariously balancing on the jetty. If I were ever on that jetty, I'd never close the gate behind me, and not sure its possible. Its not all that claustrophobic on the trail right there, because there isn't much room for weeds/undergrowth between the fence and the lake. A few steps to the east, however, and both sides of the trail are overgrown right up to the fence. The fence extends several yards. Someone could be on the other side of the fence, in those woods, and somehow lure the girls around the fence and back into the woods.

I still think the bikes were put in that most secluded spot, if only because you couldn't see them from across the lake nor from Arbutus road. You'd have to get out and walk down the trail to find them.

HLN reporting now that DM says he was interrogated yesterday and poly'd and police repeatesly accused him and he got up amd walked out.

Also, in last 90 mins they took comps out of house.....6 days into investigation.

No warrants, done with family consent.

This is where the fence ends, maybe 30-40 yards east of that gate, which would be on the right side/lake side of the trail, out of view due to the trail sloping down and curving slightly.

You could walk along the fence back in those woods, along the trail, and reach the lake, where you'd be on a muddy shore, 20-30 feet from the end of the jetty. Really wish I could get back there to take pics.

IMO Lyric could very well pass as a teenager. As the picture they've released of her in the Halloween costume seemed too risque for a 10 yr. old. If I could ask a question it would be in regards to any computers the girls have used. And if the LE have found anything substantial.

I also am having a hard time believing the LE hasn't no clue what has happened. Having worked closely with LE, they often have more information but don't want to ruin an ongoing investigation.

All speculation at this point, but I hope the girls are found soon. I cannot imagine the horror the families are going through.

I still say the weight for Lyric has GOT to be wrong. And if it is as wrong as I think it is, people would BOLO for a totally different looking girl! I wish we could find out if that was a mistake.

Is it a UA violation to mention that he's got a record related to domestic abuse with a weapon? Offense date:8/8/2011.

So, as in most other cases that we follow at WS, the internal pressure starts to build for the relatives of the victims. As in other cases, unfortunately, some of the relatives and possibly friends, have criminal records. That always adds an extra layer of scrutiny, IMO.

We know the deal, the ones who have been around a while.

The way I see it, the more time and resources LE uses before they can completely eliminate the family and friends as suspects, the more time and resources that are diverted from finding the victims.

So, the truth will prevail, and stay focused on the matter at hand.

The girls come first.

You tell them (detectives) the truth and they say, 'You're holding something back,' and you're not. What is left to talk about? You know, we go over and over and over again. It made me feel like, yeah, they're looking at me like a suspect," said Dan Morrissey, Lyric's father. "But as far as what I know, I know the truth, I know I am telling the truth, so it is offensive."

"It's not normal to us; it's awkward. But we know it's part of the investigation and very necessary and they want to rule out everything, if it’s someone we've encountered over the years, so I understand that," Misty Cook-Morrissey said.

Authorities said on Tuesday that everyone is considered a suspect until they find something.

Law enforcement did not return calls seeking comment on Morrissey's claims that he feels like he's being treated like a suspect.

Uh oh

This is all starting to sound too familiar. Isn't that what happened in the Irwin and Dunn cases? One or both parents walking out?

Not saying anyone is guilty but I do wonder if these police tactics really work?
