So many kids drown, so that in most missing child cases it's standard to check out all nearby waterways asap. With the heat and this being a shallow lake, IMO, if the girls were in the lake, they would have surfaced in about 7 days. I'm actually more surprised that the lake is being drained.

IIRC, one of the girls was wearing black hightop shoes. I can't imagine wearing them in to swim and the shoes have not been recovered.

This is all starting to sound too familiar. Isn't that what happened in the Irwin and Dunn cases? One or both parents walking out?

Not saying anyone is guilty but I do wonder if these police tactics really work?

The reporter did say that LE is under no obligation to tell the truth and that it is fairly common to lean on family members like that. But he said it was unusual to be doing so 5 days into the investigation, and also that it seemed odd they waited until 6 days in to get computers.

IMO Lyric could very well pass as a teenager. As the picture they've released of her in the Halloween costume seemed too risque for a 10 yr. old. If I could ask a question it would be in regards to any computers the girls have used. And if the LE have found anything substantial.

I also am having a hard time believing the LE hasn't no clue what has happened. Having worked closely with LE, they often have more information but don't want to ruin an ongoing investigation.

All speculation at this point, but I hope the girls are found soon. I cannot imagine the horror the families are going through.

I think she could too..and was glad to read a couple posts back that LE have taken computers. IMO, it is important that LE know all they can about the girls, because it can only help their efforts to locate them (alive, I hope).

So, as in most other cases that we follow at WS, the internal pressure starts to build for the relatives of the victims. As in other cases, unfortunately, some of the relatives and possibly friends, have criminal records. That always adds an extra layer of scrutiny, IMO.

We know the deal, the ones who have been around a while.

The way I see it, the more time and resources LE uses before they can completely eliminate the family and friends as suspects, the more time and resources that are diverted from finding the victims.

So, the truth will prevail, and stay focused on the matter at hand.

I agree but as we know following Victoria Stafford's case sometimes they do go way too far and it turns out the parents are innocent. In the meantime precious time is lost. We always hope they run parallel investigations but unfortunately not all LE agencies have the resources to do so.

Let's hope they rule out the family quickly so they can move on.

Well, I can't imagine not wanting to work WITH the cops to get the routine investigation of the family done and over with to move on.

They do it because, overwhelmingly, children are victimized by a family member or family friend. They're not trying to be mean.

My husband committed suicide by gunshot, and as part of the routine investigation, I was questioned, etc. I knew I hadn't done anything wrong, and I guess I could get maybe being offended that it added insult to injury, but I also knew that I had NOTHING to hide, and that the police were trying to HELP.

I just don't get griping about being questioned-- and I would understand it all the MORE if I had a criminal record.

HLN just reported that L's dad DM walked out of LE questioning.

LE had been using the questioning tactic, "You know more than you are telling us."

And he did seem to emphasize the bike and purse/bag were there but that did not mean the girls were. AND, at the point of the last presser it had been said that dogs picked up the girls scent at the lake path and on the dock.

I wondered about that too. Perhaps the dogs picked the smell of the girls up from their bikes. If they rode them often and had been on them that day, I would expect the dogs to detect their scent.

The new pictures make both of them look older to me. Like, Elizabeth could pass for 10ish and Lyric for 12-13 at least. I feel bad for Lyric-I am projecting majorly, but I know how hard it is to be that developed when you are still a little girl. This is very personal, but I developed very young and often had older men hitting on me who had no idea I was basically a baby who still played with dolls on the weekends. Not saying that happened at all, but it opens up a possibility in my mind.

The town is also MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller than I assumed in my head.

Wonder if he finished his poly then? This could be why the reporter was questioning his mother in the video and she was defending him, Misty and the son. There was mention of his past drug involvement also.

I don't think he was involved directly, but it could be someone in his circle of friends..now and past. jmo

He's probably the most "suspect-able" of the immediate family. I've heard his recent past is rugged. I tend to doubt it, but then, maybe someone he knows, some acquaintance in his circle of friends. I know we're not supposed to sleuth family here, and I'd have to believe he has been well-checked by authorities, but its only natural to wonder. I don't know him or of him. No clue as to the closeness of the relationship with Lyric's mother, or how often he sees her, etc. Also, I'd imagine the pressure and stress on this family is near-unbearable. Why he'd walk out, I have no clue, but I would guess there has been some back-and-forth in that family recently, given the microscope on them all. Can't say I'd sit in a room and listen to police repeatedly accuse me at a time like this, but again, he'd said he felt offended at being accused before. I wonder if LE is on to something that they've not told the public.

Yes very common but 5-6 days is a long time to still be interviewing family members and that worries me because most of the cases I've followed, the case ends going cold due to lack of evidence and/or leads and the family continue to be suspected (wrong or right).

As for the purse, my theory is that the perp approached the girls when Lyric was near the end of that blind spot between the two fences and Elizabeth was behind her. In my theoretical scenario, the perp has Lyric by the arm and is in some way intimidating both girls. The perp orders Elizabeth to throw her purse over the lakeside fence (probably to prevent her from accessing a possible cell phone), then has both girls get off their bikes, walks them through the woods to a vehicle parked either by the lift building or on Arbutus Ave.

Yeah, after seeing the pictures, truthfully, She looks exactly like me at her age.

It was really, really rough. I got involved in some situations I wasn't ready for.

She's a lovely girl. Both of them are. I hope they're okay.

To be fair, if I knew I was innocent and was being interrogated for hours on end (I don't know that DM was, just saying). I might finally get ticked after saying every way I know how, "I didn't do this!"

I could be wrong, but that is a response that would likely come naturally for me.

Not storming out, mind you, but more like "look, this is going nowhere. May I go now?"

It is true, the town is small (though in Iowa standards, there are much much smaller towns) but I'd like to point out that Evansdale (and Elk Run Heights) meld almost seamlessly into Waterloo, and then Waterloo into Cedar Falls. There are points where you only realize you're in a different "town" by a sign. The borders are blurry. My hometown is much the same, but I can't think of a larger city to compare it to that would make sense.

Just logged on again so sorry if this was posted. I was just watching TJ Holmes and he had the reporter on who was on NG. He stated that Daniel M. was interrogated YESTERDAY by police for several hours and felt accused so he got up and left. That's all that was stated.
