Thank you so much Mr. Spellman! Your insight, experience, and viewpoint are much appreciated!

It really looks like the storms are actually going to happen. :( As much as we need this rain, I can't help but agonize at what a set back this will prove to be.

If it's a man in white van I'm just gonna :thud:

why? O/T but.....There has been a slew of attempted abductions of girls in and around the area of Peru, Illinois (north central) Here's form our local paper newstrib.com

At 4:05 p.m. at Fourth Street and Monks Avenue, an 11-year-old girl was riding a bike when a white van pulled up beside her, driven by a white man described as 40-50 years old, bald, chubby-faced, with no facial hair and possibly wearing a yellow shirt.

He was not successful, but they don't stop until they get what they want, very scary. The van has no windows except up front.

I am trying to visualize if the bikes were placed there by an abductor, how, if it were a man, "he" would take 2 bikes where they were placed without being seen. One was a purple bike, right? You would think someone would have noticed a man on a purple bike but maybe there isn't that much traffic on the bike trails?

It would have to be someone that was familiar with the area and knew that there was a small access road in the area that could be used to take the bikes to the trail.

I wonder what the possibilities are that these two girls would plan to meet up with someone and run away? Was there anything going on in their lives which would make them feel like they weren't wanted or make them feel like no one cares if they are gone?

Part of me thinks they rode their bikes there on their own and part of me thinks their bikes were staged there. It doesn't seem they were taken by a struggle though.

I'm a little bit west of you, and we had reports of attempted abductions in this area last year. A white van was also reported at that time. These attempts happened near two different elementary schools on the same day. Probably the same guy.

This is just too sad. We have no clue what could have happened to these two young girls. Spellman is right where it all went down and he said he really doesn't have a feel for what happened. He's covered other missing children cases so I'm sure he knows what to look for and the clues are just not there.

Here's his answer to what he thinks if anyone missed it.

What is your take on what happened to the girls?

"I really don’t know. The geography of the area where the bikes were found would be difficult for a stranger abduction…no way to get out of there with 2 uncooperative girls would be easy."

"None of the investigators I have spoken to think they will find anything in the lake…but of course we know until it’s drained. FBI dive team is en route to check the deeper parts."

I wonder the same things. I am leaning towards they rode their bikes there on their own but the worrisome part for me is that Elizabeth's purse was on the other side of the fence. If they wanted to run away I would think she would take the purse with her.

Jim
Have you been on the ground as a reporter in previous missing children's cases? If so, what are the similarities and differences you are witnessing firsthand with LE actions? Do you think LE is leaning towards this being an abduction or an accident?

Thanks for your insight!

I'm not Jim, but I know he has covered the baby Lisa Irwin case in KC, MO. He posts on the Lisa Irwin forum here on WS.

It would have to be someone that was familiar with the area and knew that there was a small access road in the area that could be used to take the bikes to the trail.

the timeline is also tight:

girls leave at 1215 (or 1130 if you believe the aunt who may have been mistaken as LE continues on with the 1215 time)

guy comes upon the bikes while riding at 1220-27 ish while riding on the trail

another man sees they ride by between 12-3 while he is watering his lawn

yeah, I agree something happened right away.

I also think that it was someone that was either at the lake or visiting the lake that day. Either took them thru the woods to a car or took them on foot. I tend to think they were lured.

:moo:

Hey all..I'm covering this from Evansdale...I reported on Daniel walking out of interview, the computers and attic search...I'm happy to answer some questions If I can.
Thank you for being so dedicated to finding the missing children....you can tell that you truly care and you're not just doing a job. :blowkiss:

IMO, I don't think the bikes were staged. I think the girls put them there and were called over. Why place them like that, the way children would? The purse, to me, feels like it was throw after the fact. That item was returned, and the excuse, maybe, to scout the crime scene.

This is all my speculation, of course.

Do houses in Iowa come with basements cause of tornados?

I also wish we had confirmation on the purse/bag. 3 different things have been reported:

over the fence on the highway side (this was discussed a lot in the first thread)
over the fence on the lake side
approx 20 feet away

Many houses in Iowa do have basements, however, our house does not. So many do and some do not.

The purse being on the other side of the fence-does that mean someone would have to climb over the fence to get it-or is there a gate-I am confused!TIA

  • #577
And the purse could have been set down by the bikes and someone came across it later looked inside and then tossed it.

Didn't the guy on the path say that a bike was blocking the path? He said that he had to swerve around a bike, not that he leaned the bike against the fence. Other information is that the bikes were leaning against the fence, so it seems that the 12:27 sighting may not be credible ... especially if no one has come forward claiming to have moved the bikes. It seems to me that police need to go back to the last credible sighting at 12:15 and start again from that point.

Regarding tips from the public, so often tips come in that are not related to the missing person ... so I'm skeptical of all tips from people that didn't know the children.

I was thinking thrown over, unless it was dropped during attack. I'd have to see if this purse is a kind that is easily dropped.

I see most young girls use their purses like slings.
