Again I say, my DD appears to have about the same build as Lyric but is 5'2" and weighs 125. I truly think the weight listed was a misprint.

I think she is a just a big boned, muscular girl and it's prolly correct at 145. Muscle weighs more that fat (denser). My grandmother was polish/swedish and the same. I don't know what she weighed, but at 5' 9" her body was like a linebackers. You no mess with her! Me....like your DD. :)

It also could be a teenager or group of teens.

Yes, definitely.

Gosh, I hope LE are 1000 steps ahead than any of us speculating. It appears they're putting a lot of resources in the lake search.

They said by Friday the lake should be drained (per reporter on JVM). :sigh:

Big thanks to the helpful locals!!!!!!

Does anyone have knowledge on how accurate scent dogs are? More specifically is it possible that the person that "took them" somewhere else, would have their scent on him/her...staged the bike scene (bikes would still have their scent from earlier) and walked through the woods to the lake, etc...
Kind of like in Twilight when they used Bella's scent to through off the other vamps (I know bad analogy...)

  • #724
yes there are transients/homeless/drifters in the area. I myself placed a tip that my teenager and some friends were "lured" back to his "sleeping place" in some woods in evansdale a week and a half or 2 weeks prior to the girls turning up missing. stopped my heart in my chest when my child told me about it.

Do you know where? That's freaky! I've seems one dingy folks in this town but I've never really seen anything like that.

  • #725
O/T-WS Radio should be good at 9pm tonight-new information on the JonBenet Ramsey case!!

  • #726
My local opinion is that its related to the trial or to sm. I do not think the parents did it but someone could be trying to make a point.I also noticed at 4pm Presser that le said I have no new information to release. He did not say there was no new information. Watch that again.

Do you think somebody is holding them? Would that be a possibility? If so that would explain some of the language that LE is using - like no reason to believe there has been foul play, no reason to suspect the parents, etc.

Q-How is the lake looking?

The progress draining the lake seemed to go slower today. Not sure why. There is a pump pumping water into the outlet drain, and it seems to be working…so, I don’t know why it has slowed down.

Q-I understand from looking at the topo map that it has areas that could be 21 feet deep or more but I don't see the girls floating to those pockets from the shore if it were a swimming accident.

It is our understanding that that most of the lake is pretty shallow but there is a deeper section that the draining will not be able to get to and thus the FBI Dive team. I don’t know enough about how something might behave in the water to have an opinion on that part.

Q-How strong is the fbi presence? Have they taken over the case from the local PD?

Hard to say…IOWA DCI…Dept. of Criminal Investigation…are definitely here and se mot have a strong role.

Q-Do you know any more info on the dogs?

On Monday the evening …around 8pm or so…the family was lined up on the side of the lake near the highway and 2 dogs working separately were given a chance to sniff the family so they could identify and ignore their scents…which may have been on the girls.

I saw all this from a distance…this was right as I arrived.

Per Misty The dogs were then given a sent to smell taken from shoes of the girls. Both dogs took off tpwrds the bikes, then kept going to the waters edge in a wooded area of the shore.

Whether this is of any use to the investigation I don’t know. Our understanding is they are done with the dogs for now.

Q-What was the reason for the attic search?
The family thinks it was just LE being thorough.

Q-Did the girls go up there or was something up there LE wanted to look at?
Wylma…the grandmother…tells me the girls were not allowed up there, that it was kept locked.

I wouldn’t put a lot of emphasis on the attic…it doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal.

Q-Can Daniel think of anyone that may have been too interested in his daughter?

I asked, he said no.

Q:Did he show pictures of her to someone of questionable character?

I don’t know.

Q-Did his daughter have unrestricted access to the computer at his home?

Lyric was living with grandma…but to the computer question I don’t know.

Q-Was she staying with him when she set up personal proflies on the internet?
Sorry…I don’t understand? Who are you talking about? I haven’t looked ionto the online life of any of these folks except a quick look at the FB pages of Misty, Dan and Dillin.

Q-Jim
Have you been on the ground as a reporter in previous missing children's cases?

The only major case was the Baby Lisa Irwin case last year…is how I found WS.

Q-If so, what are the similarities and differences you are witnessing firsthand with LE actions?
Similar to Baby Lisa:
No clear idea what happened…all theories have major problems.

Different:
Everything else…2 kids not one,
-bigger kids, not infant
-parents cooperating with LE at this point.
-no lawyers at this point
-parents talk to media, answer anything as far as we know.

To show the level of openness…all the stuff about Dan and the meth and the pending divorce I got from the family. They say they will answer anything to get the focus back on finding the kids.

Q-Do you think LE is leaning towards this being an abduction or an accident?
I don’t know...that will be clearer when the lake is drained.

Q-I am trying to visualize if the bikes were placed there by an abductor, how, if it were a man, "he" would take 2 bikes where they were placed without being seen?

You could probably do this from the wooded end of the lake. Hard to explain the geography in words…sorry!

Q-One was a purple bike, right?

I don’t know.

Q-You would think someone would have noticed a man on a purple bike but maybe there isn't that much traffic on the bike trails?
I cant judge how busy the area was …ive only seen it as a crime or accident scene.

Q-I also wish we had confirmation on the purse/bag. 3 different things have been reported:over the fence on the highway side (this was discussed a lot in the first thread)
over the fence on the lake side
approx 20 feet away

It was between the shore and the fence.. In this stretch there are 2 femces…so it goes like this

Lake shore-fence-bike path-fence-hill up to highway…and the area is wooded.

The fence may not be that big of a deal. The fence between the shore and the bike path dosnt go all the way around and ends +/- 20 yards from where the bikes were found. You could just walk around it at that point. Again…its hard to dsescribe.

The fence between the highway and the bike goes most of the way around and is a bigger deal, though there is a big hole in it where a car crashed trough it a while back. It’s covered in vines but out could get through there….its probablty a couple hundred feet from the bikes.

Q-Are Misti and Dan Morrissey married to each other at this time or is he married to someone else (he mentioned a wife one night on TV)?

According to Misty she was not getting along with Dan when Lyric was born and they were not yet married and that’s why they used the maiden name Cook with Lyric. They then got married a couple years later, but are now separated….though they are definitely operating as a team during this crisis.

Q-Aunt Tammy on the JVM show just said that Dan and Misty have been separated for some time due to his meth addiction
I wonder if Jim Spellman got any of this info during his phone call with Daniel today.

We been working on all this for a couple days, but yes…I got this and we’ve been working to confirm and understand its relevance before reporting.

Q-Aunt Tammy went on to say that the dogs went into the woods to where you could park a car back there.

The geography is hard to explain, btu you could get a car back into the area past the woods or even drive a car to where the bikes are, but you would certainly be noticed if anyone came by. Maybe google sat maps would help?

Q-How far away were the washrooms in the park from where the bikes were found?

Other side of the lake…no where near really

Q-I asked this a few pgs back-could the girls have gone on a boat-are there houses on this lake-no answer yet! Although last night I think they pulled a boat dock out of the water!

There are houses on this lake yes…as for boats I don’t know. Maybe rowboats or kayaks or little sunfish or something. It is not a big lake and much of it ios taken up by a bigish island. There were 2 small docks that they pulled out of the water yesterday . They are now sitting on the grass next to the lake.

Do you know where? That's freaky! I've seems one dingy folks in this town but I've never really seen anything like that.

my teen and I live in Waterloo, but her friends live in Evansdale, so I am not exactly sure of the location. what she told me was it was on the other side of the creek in the woods behnd Bunger (I am thinking Bunger Park/School area). he was clearly sleeping at an illegal campsite, no tent, no sleeping bag, just blankets. he had hs belongings in a womens' tote bag.

BBM

I'm inclined to agree with you. May be a greater possibility they could be returned.

The day before Daniel Morrissey's daughter disappeared, the court set a September date for him in connection with drug charges that allege police found items used to make meth in his home in December.

Morrissey also has a pending domestic assault charge stemming from an August incident where he allegedly assaulted Misty Morrissey.

One of his alleged accomplices in the drug case had a pretrial conference the day of the disappearance, and another codefendant was scheduled to plea the following Monday.

Misty Cook pleaded guilty to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute meth in 2003. Misty Morrissey is charged under her maiden of Cook.

Capt. Rick Abben said the both families are cooperating with the investigation. Wylma Cook, the girls' grandmother, said officials "interrogated" Dan Morrissey, Lyric's father, Tuesday.

Makes me wonder if one of his accomplices was trying to get revenge somehow?

Well good lord! No wonder these people are none stop talking about religion and God and their faith! IMHOO they're trying to cover up their own bad actions. Sorry but according to this article and according to JVM's coverage tonight, these children were in drug filled/drug making, possibly violent homes.... :banghead:

I find it curious that the grandmother has temporary custody of Lyric and her brother. Why wouldn't Misty have custody of her own children? I would have expected that even if she was temporarily living with her mother.

ETA: this makes more sense given the subsequent post about Misty's conviction.

There is mention of Misty being in prison, along with Daniel, so someone had to take care of the children. I believe the Collins had custody first and then Misty's mother. imo

IIRC, one of the girls was wearing black hightop shoes. I can't imagine wearing them in to swim and the shoes have not been recovered.

The lake is used for fishing, so if someone went into the water, it would be prudent to wear shoes so as to avoid a fish hook in the foot.

I can't remember a time I didn't know that. But when I think about it, I think I learned that because my family liked to go fishing when I was a child and that is probably how I learned about the danger of fish hooks outside of designated swimming areas.

I know I went into plenty of bodies of water with my shoes on (and completely without my parents' knowledge) and just used the garden hose to clean them off when I got home.

When I think about it, my childhood was full of doing things that my parents didn't know about. Nothing bad, like drugs or anything like that. Just kid stuff, exploring, going wading or swimming when my mom didn't know, things like that.

When my service dog disappeared, I got calls for about 3 weeks after I got him back from the parents of children who mentioned casually that they had interacted with the brown hairy beast while playing. I'm convinced those were accurate reports because almost all of the kids told me he gave them kisses (he loved children) and said he had a blue tongue spot, something that was not publicised at all.

That experience reinforced for me the impression that children live in a different world than adults. Children have lives that are separate from adults and not fully intersectional with adults, if that makes sense.

Or, an easier way to put it, kids don't tell their parents everything they do.

That is what I am leaning towards. Maybe to influence trial testimony? I think that is honestly the most hopeful scenario. If it was random, I don't think there will be a good outcome. I feel like le is being intentionally vague with the timeline and other details. It seems like they are trying to distract us from the details. Obviously they have to thououghly check the lake but it is also a good distraction from what else they are investigating. They repeatedly say they have no reason to think the girls are not in the area. . Why? I can think of a million reason's to think they are long gone from the area. Why aren't they firming the timeline up? I think they know way more and don't want an abductor to panic. Maybe I am being overly hopeful but that's moo.

Here's a thought....

There was mention that the dogs hit on the jetty and the woods...

What if the girls were riding their bikes and stopped at the gate, seeing it was unlocked. They were curious, as kids are, and decided to go through the gate and check things out. They set their bikes outside the gate and went through. Elizabeth put her purse down inside the gate while they checked out the water and jetty. Someone dressed as an authority figure, maybe like a police officer, (wasn't there recent info about a police impersonator?) came up to them and told them that they were in trouble for going onto the jetty and would need to come with him. Being an authority figure, they would have been scared, but cooperative, and gone with him (purse and bikes forgotten), east down the path and through the wooded area to his waiting car/truck, which was sitting inconspicuously, off the road by the pump house, maybe with a light on it to make it look more real.

I am beginning to think that this might be what happened.

Sorry i have no idea if this break rules or not but this talk about the Meth and could it play a role in all this, i cant help but remember a case from back home. the girl's names were Ashley Freeman and Lauira Bible from Welch Oklahoma. Older girls but they are still missing. The parents were messed up in Meth and the whole family paid the price. Like everyone else i hope these girls are ok.

  • #738
IMO, it has nothing to do with the father's clients. It's very possible this maybe a person Lyric has had contact with recently, perhaps the few days before she went missing when they had to call 911 to find her and her other cousin.

Wait, wasn't that actually in 2011?

Earlier today Ollipop posted really good photos of the trail where the bikes were found, the adjacent woods that show a dirt path that you cannot see on google and how that leads to the grassy area where a vehicle could possibly pull into, they start around #136...worth looking at

He also talked about that area where the girls' bikes were found as a creepy area to walk through, that made him nervous, and he's a big guy.

For all those WS's that are surprised/doubtful that a perp would go after TWO girls...there are quite a number of missing friends/siblings etc. who went missing together and LE suspects foul play. Just take a look at the "Gone but not Forgotten" section. There is even one that I remember where 3 girls went missing under suspicious circumstances.
So some perps don't care. Maybe it even gives them an advantage because the kids might have a false sense of safety since they are with a friend. JMO

Hoping for the best for Elizabeth and Lyric.

Absolutely true. Two young women were just found dead (19 and 20), after their killer abducted them from one of their homes. And what about the little girls from Oklahoma? Taylor and Skyla? Shot and left in a ditch?

Then there's the two teens abducted and raped by a man. They later tried to kill him before they were rescued: http://asia.cnn.com/2002/US/08/03/teen.abduction/index.html

And here's a story about two girls who were approached and abducted: http://www.americantowns.com/ca/mod...-abduction-suspects-still-outstanding-3347504

I mean, it happens. Jacob Wetterling was abducted after a man surprised him and his brother and another friend, all on bikes, and ordered them off the bikes and onto the ground with a gun in hand. Those kids were scared. They would have done anything he said. He could have handled two of them with the gun and the intense fear they felt. :twocents:

I am thinking so too...wouldn't even have to be someone posing as an authority figure...all it would take is the abductor gaining control of one of the girls and threatening the other to be cooperative or the other one gets hurt.
