Cinder...every time I see this I think of you being left alone in a room with LE.

BBM - I wondered too why the purse was brought along. If this was supposed just a quick ride, I don't think they would have been going to any store for a quick treat - they had just left a cold drink on the counter back at the Collins' house - so why bring the purse??????? The purse being there w/the cell phone that we later found out could not actually make calls was one of the things that made me think this scene was staged. :banghead:

Some little girls feel more grown up carrying a purse. ESPECIALLY if it has a ring of old keys, a non-working cell-phone, and a wallet with some of the "fake" credit cards that you get in the mail sometimes.

3CK, you wouldn't believe all the water blocking the path to the crime scene at 7 bridges. What a mess.

What do you all think of the hole at the bottom of the fence I photographed?

I'm aware that this isn't the answer you're looking for, but just wanted to comment that "the hole in the fence on the Maiden Lane area side of the Bike Trail" came as a total surprise to me.

IIRC there has been much talk here of the gate in the fence on the Maiden Lane area side of the Bike Trail and some talk of a hole left in the fence betw the Bike Trail and the freeway.

However, to the best of my memory, your photo is the first I've known of there being a hole in the fence betw the Bike Trail and Maiden Lane area...

On the way home I got to thinking about all the deer cams at seven bridges. I thought well what are they going to do, contact everyone that visits the area to see if they are a suspect. Then it hit me that they already have a suspect, but not enough evidence and they want to see if he visits the scene of his crime as so many of them do.

So they may be looking for YOU now! You might call LE and let them know you were there taking photos.

Like many, I think the perp was familiar with the park. But that could have
been a transient who had settled there camping for lack of any other place
to go ... then came to Evansdale on the day of the abduction and a
chance encounter with the girls at the park. But its all pure speculation.

Its too bad LE didn't have any IR capability at Evansdale.

Like Gary Hilton?

Child abduction murderers were strangers to the victim in 44.4% of the cases, and were family friends or acquaintances in 41.9% of the cases. The killer was an intimate or family member of the victim in 13.7% of the cases.

Keep in mind that these statistics apply to one perp abducting one child. I don't know if they change when two children are abducted together.

I've checked on two cases where a perp abducted/killed two children and in those cases, the perp was not a stranger.

Thank you for this file Marilyn. I think you posted it the other day and I could not get it to download, but it downloaded for me today. A treasure trove of information. I saved it to my computer and may print it out. Gotta check my ink level.

So, if I am reading your post correctly, it is really about as equally possible for a child to be abducted by a stranger as by a family friend or acquaintance. Very interesting.

I am thinking now this person had to be at the very least an acquaintance of the children, not necessarily of the family. And if it truly was a stranger abduction, it had to be 2 or more perps to control these girls because I imagine they would have fought and one would likely have gotten away. Or, the perp grabbed one and had a gun or knife and controlled the other cousin this way. Lots of good information. Will definitely be reading it all. Thank you again. :seeya:

Way back when I first started reading this thread, I made a remark about how the person who had done this could have been someone also involved in the searches. I used an example of how firemen start fires just to look like the hero and save the day. I guess that wasn't a very good example because someone commented back to me that they thought the firemen did a great job in those hot days searching. In no way did I insinuate that a firemen did it. I was just using that as an example. I had that thought after watching the video of the vigil and searching faces to see if anything seemed weird to me.

I get you. Like nurses who cause medical emergencies for their patients so they can be the savior (MBP).

It was discovered that once the murder investigation has begun, the name of the killer is likely to be in the investigative file within the first week. This provides an opportunity for investigator who may have run out of viable leads to regroup and review everyone whose name has been uncovered during the investigation. Similarly, it is not uncommon for the police to have actual contact with the killer before he becomes a primary suspect, for example, during the initial neighborhood canvass. Also, while at times the media seem to “get in the way,” in the end they are much more likely to have a positive effect on the investigation than a negative one. In short, the media are more likely to bring witnesses forward than to aid the killer in his escape.

I definitely agree with this. I think the killer is in Cranky Crankerson's file. The guy in the white van that made deliveries. . . I know the article says he has been cleared... but still the picture of him wearing his hat low and the van.... ugh!!! It still bothers me.

What do you all think of the hole at the bottom of the fence I photographed?

I thought it was weird, like it was used by someone to slide in and out. I wondered if the dogs hit on the girls' scent there. . . It was definitely a good picture of you to take for us cinder. It really puts us that cannot be there physically a very good visual of the area.

Was there ever mention in the beginning of the investigation, a white pick up truck with a topper?

I would imagine that they are in the planning stages of the project. I understood from the most recent articles that the land on the Island has ravines/ditches in it (6-8 feet deep), so my guess is that the first thing they'll do is level the area. I wonder if they'll be trucking in additional soil or whether they will simply level the area as is ... perhaps lowering the elevation of the Island by a foot or so.

otto, is lowering the elevation of the Island a good idea? From the photos cinder took, to me, it looked like Meyers Lake was back to its pre-drained level and the river was ferociously high! How likely is that this island is going to look like their rendition on FB? Surely, they won't just abandon the idea of the island memorial???

I forgot to mention that while in Evansdale yesterday, I noticed no progress on the island.
