I'm googling different things trying to find out the name of the home, nothing concrete yet.
There is a Woodhaven Shelter which is part of Bremwood Residential Treatment Center, Grundy Center, Bremwood Lutheran Children's Home? Not sure what type of facility that is. Pathway's Behavioral Services in Bremer County. Will keep trying.

It's called Bremwood and it's in Waverly.

Klunder was placed at Bremwood youth home in Waverly as a teen. In December 1991, he assaulted a female motorist after getting her to pull over. The following day, he abducted two 3-year-old girls from outside a Charles City apartment building and left them alive in a dumpster. That same year, he was sentenced to 41 years in prison and was released in February 2011.

Bremer Co. sites are unavailable but Waverly is the county seat of Bremer Co.

Kathlynn Shepard case: Saturday’s updates

Meyers said results likely will not be released until Monday, in part because the State Medical Examiners Office is working to make a dental comparison.

This autopsy may take longer than others due to the condition of the body and because officials are doing a “very comprehensive review,” Meyers said.

Normally, officials would be wrapping up their investigation given that the victim is believed to have been found and the suspect is dead, but Meyers said they are taking extra time and precaution as they continue to look into possible connections to the case of two girls from Evansdale who were kidnapped and killed last year.

“Normally, we’d be working to close the file so to speak,” Meyers said. “We’re being more methodical to make sure we have everything we need to conduct those comparisons.”

If you scroll down Heather & Drew talk about Kathlynn's death.

“I feel for those families and pray they stick together and hold on to their faith,” Collins said. She and Drew have reached out to Kathlynn’s parents to let them know they’re available to talk and provide support, she said.

The couple hopes to attend Kathlynn’s funeral and continue their crusade for tougher prison sentences for those convicted of kidnapping and sexual assault. Now, they have a few more people in their corner.

Kathlynn’s parents and others in the Dayton community have already spoken out about the need for tougher sentences on violent criminals.

Klunder was a registered sex offender with a violent history that included convictions for kidnapping and assault.

“He never should have been let out, and he should not have been able to plea bargain,” Collins said. “Kathlynn didn’t get to plea bargain for her life.”

Again the Colllins are focused on RSOs tougher sentences and sexual assault. Now maybe they just became more aware and active in those causes because when their Lizzie went missing it caught their attention in a way it hadn't before. But I am still struck by their focus on the sexual assault RSO angle because it could suggest that they feel or were led to believe that the girls were sexually assaulted.

When is Law Enforcement & the Justice System going to learn that the antiquated Silence & Misinformation/Close to the Vest Strategy, only causes innocent victim's lives and mounting cold cases? The American Public is their most valuable investigative resource, yet continues to be squandered by many LEAs. Tier3 RSOs/Sexual Predators such as Michael Klunder, are recidivist..

Klunder's name didn't even come up during the investigation into the Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins abduction and murders. Their bodies were found in December in a wildlife area in rural Bremer County.

Kathlynn Shepard, and who knows how many other unknown victim's lives were taken by Klunder due to the silence by The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department?

This is the part that worries me the most.

Surely there are a finite amount of double kidnappers of children, in Iowa.

LE can be excused for not knowing about some of them, but NO ONE can be excused for not knowing about an offender who had already been through the system for exactly this charge, and recently released. :banghead:

I am hoping one of the following has occured -

1. Foreign DNA exists in the case of L&L, and Klunder's DNA has already been excluded, a long time ago (eg, no hit on the system - this depends on whether or not he's registered/swabbed I guess).

2. LE know who killed L&L, and the Klunder episode is just a coincidence and a handy diversion, publicity wise and investigation wise. LE are playing it up to make certain folks relax and think they've gotten away with it.

If neither are true, I'm afraid this case is lost between agencies, stuck in a mire of politcal one upmanship and bickering. The miscommunication between the different LE agencies has been fairly obvious. I suspect egos have got in the way of the investigation. I hope I'm wrong.

When I think about it, there's been a lot of ego around this case. :pullhair:

My thoughts keep returning to the exact ones Foxfire just stated here. MK, a repeat predator & an RSO, one who lived and performed his evil doings in the same state, Iowa, as the autorities and victims.......MK wasn't even looked at by law enforcement! What the H does authorities tell these families when they ask why investigators didn't expand their search for a person(s) of interest?! And, if the families didn't ask this question where were the advocates to help them.

MK's issues that began as behavioral problems at home turned into something beyond the old, 'Oh, it's a family thing. We should mind our own business." These sort of issues never just effect the individuals and families. Violence, predatory, substance abuse, etc......these issues also effect the community.

Next are we gonna hear that MK didn't exhibit any violence in his current marriage? He didn't exhibit any control issues or sexual sadist behavior either?
And, his in-laws didn't noticed any unhealthy behavior either? His wife's closest friends didn't notice any unhealthy behavior? I'm not going to buy it! IMO rationaliztion has already taken place among these family members. I know this is harsh! It's meant to be. Nobody did what had to be done to save these girls' lives. Nor any of the prior victims.

"MK....the gift that keeps giving!" People's lives are going to be effected for possibly generations due to this 🤬🤬🤬.

Example of misinformation in this case when it should have been obvious that this was a stranger abduction by an experienced sexual predator: "Perceived Hypothesis & Jurisdictional Linkage Blindness, the two reasons that most missing person's investigations grow cold"...

MSM article from about a week after the girls went missing. Interesting, since this is inconsistent with child abduction statistics;

Authorities searching for two missing Iowa cousins have information that leads them to believe both girls are still alive, an FBI spokeswoman said Saturday.

FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said authorities "feel strongly" that 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins have not been killed. She refused to say what led authorities to that conclusion, but urged anyone with information about their disappearance to contact law enforcement.

"We believe these girls are alive, and we are not discouraged by the passage of time since their disappearance," Breault said.

This never made sense, even at that time. FBI was too focused on the parents. A big mistake, IMO

Authorities aim to 'find a killer' of Evansdale cousins
http://on.aol.com/video/hunters-find-bodies-thought-to-be-2-iowa-cousins-517573551

Posted: Friday, December 7, 2012 1:01 pm | Updated: 8:00 pm, Fri Dec 7, 2012.

"We're going to be extremely meticulous and we're not going to apologize for that," he said a phone interview with The Associated Press. "We've got an opportunity to find a killer."

The sheriff's office had asked neighboring counties, including Bremer County, to search their parks and wildlife areas for the girls after they vanished last summer, Thompson said. He said that as far as he knows, Bremer County officers did search the popular hunting and fishing spot but that the bodies would have been hard for anyone to spot.

Betty P, this is Perceived Hypothesis; the reason the Adam Walsh investigation went cold for almost three decades. Combine this with Jurisdictional Blindness Linkage Blindness and the results are synonymous....

When these two investigative errors are combined, recidivist sexual predators such as Michael Klunder, are allowed to prey on other innocent victims, as illustrated in this tragic case...

anyone know what home for troubled youth they are referring to and what its proximity is to the areas of interest regarding our gals (E'Dale, Waterloo, 7 bridges)?

From an article about MK's 1st 15-yr old victim:

Klunder was sent to the Boys State Training School in Eldora, to Meyer Hall in Des Moines, to the *Bremwood juvenile home in Waverly, and to the Mental Health Center in Cherokee.

Upon his release in February 1988 he lived in Mason City. Later that month he choked a woman who was able to escape from him.

He was charged with assault to commit serious injury and then sent back into the juvenile system until he turned 18. Upon his 18th birthday he was sentenced to five years in prison on a burglary charge — unrelated to the choking incident — and two years on the assault charge.

Read this and ask yourself if our Justice system isn't Broken? Most Sexual predators begin their evil reign of terror at the age of 14 years old and hone their skills with each innocent victim preyed upon. The Justice System let Klunder's victims down and are complicit in his many crimes of inhumanity due to their incompetence, imo..

I think it's important to note at this stage that there is exactly zero evidence this was a sexual predator type abduction.

We cannot sledge LE for "focusing on the family" because they probably know a lot more than we do.

It all depends on the COD of the girls. We don't even know if they were sexually assaulted, yet.

  • #318

http://wcfcourier.com/news/evansdal...cle_4876f5ce-c875-11e2-a1ed-001a4bcf887a.html

But Klunder caught investigtors' attention when he abducted a 12-year-old girl and 15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard in Dayton May 20 at a bus stop. He offered them a ride and a chance to make money mowing lawns.

The 12 year old later escaped, but Shepard remains missing. Klunder was found dead, apparently taking his secrets with him.

Imo, SapphireSteel, all but the oblivious do...Have your read Klunder's history. Fortunately, Klunder's traits are found in very few people, but once they are identified they should be incarcerated or at least monitored for life.
