We know the phone was in the purse, we don't know what else was in there, maybe she had money so they could buy something from the store?

Wish we knew if bringing the purse to bike ride for a just a few minutes was a regular thing for Elizabeth to do, because if it was unusual, then maybe they did plan to go to the store or meet someone after all.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Elizabeth always carried a purse. But I can't find anything now, so maybe I've got it all wrong!

Unless I missed it, LE still hasn't officially stated the girls were murdered. I wonder why?

If a cause of death couldn't be determined, would that make it impossible to rule the deaths homicides?

This is another of those things that bug me!

Sometimes i have wondered if the initial plan was to kidnap the girls, for whatever reason, and an accidental death occurred because perp/s did not know how to properly look after children.

For example , drowning after falling from boat, ( no safety jackets) or left in a hot car for too long,( heat exhaustion), an overdose on drugs or alcohol, bindings too tight on nose and mouth, starving/dehydrated ect..just speculation, imo.

I'd believe that with one child, but it seems less likely with two.

It is unlikely, but the thought that someone could just callously and coldly murder those two little girls , is horrible. Wishful thinking for an alternative scenario...

I've actually wondered that a few times, too. I always say "no one tries to make an accident look like homicide" but I think the girls were intentionally kidnapped, but may have accidentally died when that wasn't the plan. Or maybe the kidnapper was supposed to hand off the girls somewhere, leave them secured in a vehicle and the person who was supposed to pick them up was delayed and they died while waiting?

The more I try to go down that road the more complicated and less likely the scenario works out in my head....and back to they were intentionally slaughtered. :(

I remember that as well.

Can I just say that I'm so happy to see some activity on this thread?

I don't even know what I think anymore, I just don't want these girls forgotten.

This is an unrelated, but very unusual event that occurred in Iowa, approx 3 hours away from Evansdale.
Thought it ought to be documented here, just in case..

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2014/11/08/22059476.html

"A Wisconsin man stabbed himself early Friday during a paranormal investigation at a southwestern Iowa house where two adults and six children were killed with an ax in 1912, authorities said."

This is a cold case that I follow - the Villisca axe murders. If anyone is interested in reading more, there is a FB page. Also, this is a good site: www.villiscaiowa.com.

Accident...

I've been drifting away from the idea that it was a local for awhile. It seems so bizarre that a local would suddenly decide to murder two girls and then climb back under his rock. But if it was a local molester who had the girls and something went wrong... that's a lot more believable.

That reminds me of poor Samantha Knight who died when her molester gave her an accidental OD of a sedative.

Yes, but I'm using a tablet and don't know how to link to the thread!! It's under Cold Cases, (IA) Villisca Axe Murders 1912.

Overdose of a sedative. Now there's a possibility I hadn't thought of.

I love that you wonderful people are keeping this thread going.
RIP precious girls.
May this case be solved one day.

I have always wondered why Aunt Tammy was so quick to suggest searching the park for the girls, since they supposedly were not allowed to go there on their own. I'm not saying Tammy had anything to do with the girls' abduction, but what did she know or suspect that made her think the girls went to the park? This has always puzzled me. I think she may have known that one or both of the girls had biked to the park before. JMO
