Are they using dogs with vehicle searches? TIA

I didn't see any dogs but I had an officer climb through the back of my suv searching. I was asked multiple questions such as; my whereabouts on Friday, times, routes I drive, bike trail questions and more. They took my car tag info, name and address. I was stopped 4 times , different locations in town this afternoon.

Other locals: I'm taking issue with the "Extensive search within a 12 mile radius" statement. I am well within that radius and have never seen any signs of searching near me (or the mall, or target, etc...). Ribbons and posters, etc., but no searching at any point.

Watch out or I'll have to write a post about correct behaviour for Iowans at a pig roast.

And that will move me on to the Heinold racing pigs and all will be lost.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

If you know of an upcoming Heinold racing pigs festival, I may just have to take a trip to experience it first hand....lol.

Wow! Do you think they are being that thorough with everyone or could this be a clue about the type of vehicle they suspect? You don't drive a white van do you? :what:

It sounds to me like they are looking closely at vehicles that could transport 2 bikes. I have wondered if the bikes being found at the lake was simply a decoy so that LE would spend time there. Dumped the bikes and took off with the girls to some other place. jmo

Honestly I have not witnessed a vehicle being searched, only heard it is happening. Maybe I'll get stopped on the way to work in an hour or so. I would assume there are dogs, but my guess is that they are just questioning people who travel these roads on Fridays at this time of day.

Interesting that they stopped your SUV 4 times - assuming you were in the same vehicle each time of course. Wonder is they were only stopping SUVs or regular type cars too - meaning sedan type vehicles.

Hope I got the picture in right!

Still catching up but.....

What if whoever said that there was a Sesame Street character when you put the flip flops together was mistaken and it really is a MUPPET instead??

I think that would be an easy mistake to make if you aren't totally familiar with the different cartoon characters...

Great find!! :rocker:

IMO, JMO, MOO

Probably won't get stopped unless you are driving a SUV or a white perp van. Oh my but this is so frustrating - going to take a break and wait for the presser.

They were checking every single vehicle that went to intersection of certain roads. I waited in a long line. It appeared that there were approx. 4 to 6 officers at each intersection.

I have seen ALOT of reaching in regards to the parents and to Lyric, IMO. I have seen no shred if evidence that the parents could be involved and they have done plenty to cooperate with LE. Also, I have not seen any evidence or even any comment from the family that would imply Lyric was at all 'sophisticated' for her age in a way that would have led to trouble.
It seems like the cops truly have no idea what could have happened to these girls, and with the pressure that comes with the national attention this case has garnered want people to think they are doing something so they are focusing on Lyrics dad bc of his record.

Sorry Ollipop but no matter what you are driving you may likely be stopped:

I actually can comment on this. A friend of mine is one of the health aides at her elementary school. She's talked to WC MANY times over the years, as Lyric was known to come into the nurse's office quite often, complaining of headaches or feeling ill. IMO it would indicate a she wasn't necessarily handling the home situation unscathed.

Do you know if she was teased or bullied at school for being tall for her age or big for her age?

I absolutely agree! I don't know how I'd go on. I empathize deeply.

On that note, my children are young, we've had stranger danger talks before, but without freaking them out I'm desperately trying to find a way to express how dangerous it is and how they are NEVER to go anywhere with a stranger. How to react if someone grabs them. As an aside, any advice? They are 5 and newly 3, and while I think some got through to my oldest (he's really sharp, he even said "If someone grabs me, is it ok to kick them... in the BOTTOM?"...) but I find that, as he's incredibly imaginative, he creates all of these fictitious scenarios where he creates disguises, etc. Any advice on a way to SERIOUSLY get this through to young children?? This has me completely unnerved! Is there a resource (So as not to disrupt the activity and flow of this forum)?

It is very difficult...I just watched another one of those specials on Dateline or similar, with the kids and the ice cream truck...all had been drilled about "stranger danger" complete with this scenario and still, all but one child actually got into the closed truck with the man :( They hesitated, hemmed and hawed, etc...but still did it. I guess the only answer is to have someone you trust with your kids all the time, an older teen, relative, etc. I hate saying that, as I am appalled, for the most part, by how overprotected many kids are against such small statistics, but then who wants to be the unfortunate statistic?

Heck, I'm no expert, as as unnerved as you. We've talked to our kids about: making as much noise as possible, screaming "NO!", where a kick would do the most damage, etc. We also reminded them that under NO circumstances are they to enter a vehicle - any vehicle - unless we've OK'd it ahead of time. Like we aren't going to send a friend to pick them up without letting them know ahead of time. Same for police, etc. We told them if a policeman said to get in his car, he would have no problem waiting for us to arrive on scene, etc. The local schools are great about this: once my own mother went to pick my son up from pre-school because I was delayed. I'd told them she was coming (in person, a phone call wouldn't work), they had her name and address, and she still had to show ID to get in the school, and to take my son out of the school.

Would never think of you as an old fogey. I am from the same era '60's. But, I never wore anything called a maxi dress nor have I ever heard of it. Maybe because I am short, but I don't recall this particular fashion on anyone. I think it sounds great for a cruise or some such thing. I will now have to check it out. Probably won't need it much in the piney woods where I am moving. lol

Maybe you called them granny dresses?
