Have they been searching vehicle from the first day they went missing or have they just started this today?

Seems odd...

The girls have been missing one week and it is so sad. It is important for locals to think back to what they were doing last Friday now that it is Friday again. We tend to be habitual in our routines so maybe something will be triggered in their memories today, like... I always get frozen yogurt on Fridays at the local TCBY, etc. and I do remember seeing something.

We are also in the age of "Enemy of the State" so I am surprised there is no video surveillance surfacing on the highway, at the stores, police station, home securities etc.

Let this be the day the girls are found.

Holy carp - climbed right in. For sure they are looking for something. An inconvienience (sp?) for sure but am glad they are at least looking.

It did not bother me at all. I thanked him for being thorough and for looking out for the girls. I have one that age and it scares the hell out of me being this close.

Other locals: I'm taking issue with the "Extensive search within a 12 mile radius" statement. I am well within that radius and have never seen any signs of searching near me (or the mall, or target, etc...). Ribbons and posters, etc., but no searching at any point.

Yeah...I live within view of the lake, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who's checked my garage - several times, btw. I think they searched some areas extensively, up to 12 miles away, or searched all wooded areas in a 12 mile area? I really don't know...sounds exaggerated somewhat IMO.

It is very difficult...I just watched another one of those specials on Dateline or similar, with the kids and the ice cream truck...all had been drilled about "stranger danger" complete with this scenario and still, all but one child actually got into the closed truck with the man :( They hesitated, hemmed and hawed, etc...but still did it. I guess the only answer is to have someone you trust with your kids all the time, an older teen, relative, etc. I hate saying that, as I am appalled, for the most part, by how overprotected many kids are against such small statistics, but then who wants to be the unfortunate statistic?

That's my concern! I've often been accused on being "overbearing", but I try not to shelter them from "evil" (for lack of a better word). But I worry about situations where we can be separated. They know to "look for a mom with kids", etc. But for the most part... I just always make sure we're holding hands, etc. But now I don't even feel safe in our own backyard. Even with the fence and (amazing guard) dog, and security system. :( I don't like this.

I think if the FBI are leaving the area of the lake, and nothing has been reported to suggest they found anything, that they are now ready to say definitely the girls are not in there, and there were no clues found in the lake. I fully expect to hear this at the presser this evening. If they're leaving with nothing, this is *not* good news for the kids or their families. To me, this leaves only a few other awful options:

1) the kids are / were wounded somewhere and are out somewhere in need of aid / aid is too late. :(
2) the kids ran away (but then where the heck did they go and why?)
3) abduction by stranger or family (but who, and where did they go, and are the kids still alive?

Upon suggestion, my friend and I visited this site last night... rattled doesn't even begin to describe it! Granted, IMO she is a very ill woman (And honestly, after all she's been through, I feel terribly sorry for her) but some of the info there was chilling!

I haven't looked at her website in quite some time. Back when I did, the information there was pretty much the same as in the book and film that were done that many people (including me) feel has been adequately debunked.

I do feel sorry for Noreen Gosch, she has been through an incredibly tragic event. I saw her speak at some point in the late 80s (before she was talking about the pedophile conspiracy stuff) and her intensity of grief was terrible to see. I will never forget her face.

I've seen the same specials. Even though kids are taught to be careful of strangers, how can we tell what our kids think a stranger is. The ice cream man is a good guy, right, because he brings ice cream. I can see a child thinking he was safe with the ice cream man. We just can't think of every possible scenario to warn our kids about, and we don't want our kids to grow up being fearful of everything. But on the other hand, we need to keep them safe.

In the case of Lyric and Elizabeth, I wonder what their parents told them about stranger danger, or what they might have learned in school?

My kids and I always had a secret word. I always told them that if anyone came up to them and said I'd sent him/her to pick them up or walk them home, they were to ask for the secret word. If the person didn't know the secret word, they were to run away as fast as possible to the nearest adult or trusted person. The situation never arose where they needed it, and I don't know if they would have remembered to ask for it, but it made me feel a little safer.

Gosh I know they have to do it, but really, would someone be driving through the area with evidence in their trunks during an FBI search, etc...

Maybe you called them granny dresses?

No, not really. The pictures I saw online would just have been called long dresses. Loose and flowing===MuuMuu. Cute though. jmo

I absolutely agree. SHe's not well, and understandably so. It's really far out there. So tragic.

Olli- I have been wondering the same thing myself. I got the chills several times when walking past the first turn on the trail, when coming from the front of the lake. It has many trees and a cornfield behind it. It had to have been searched many times but when I walked back there.....none of the weeds have been trampled and it looks untouched. :waitasec:

I have seen ALOT of reaching in regards to the parents and to Lyric, IMO. I have seen no shred if evidence that the parents could be involved and they have done plenty to cooperate with LE. Also, I have not seen any evidence or even any comment from the family that would imply Lyric was at all 'sophisticated' for her age in a way that would have led to trouble.
It seems like the cops truly have no idea what could have happened to these girls, and with the pressure that comes with the national attention this case has garnered want people to think they are doing something so they are focusing on Lyrics dad bc of his record.

True..What about the parents' "friends" though? ...maybe one of the inmate associates knew of them saw their pics ( eww) or party local buddies? for those following the celis case- here's the sketchy meth connection.

so sad. so so sad.
scary. praying - Lyric, Elizabeth, Isabel, Lisa, Sierra, Mickey, Sky, Ayla, Maddie...( etc)

Olli- that's why I was asking earlier about why the search stopped so early. If the girls were lying somewhere wounded, a large group of volunteers has a much better chance of finding them quickly. LE would have much explaining to do if those girls were lying in a rural area wounded, but died because the search was stopped.

I can tell you I and many others stomped thru that exact area late Friday night, albeit in the dark with flashlights.

I'm still curious as to the tire tracks I saw by the pump house. Those could easily have been missed by searchers who were in the woods. I had to stand in just the right spot to see them, just a spot where a car/truck had obviously driven thru the brush there - but there is adequate access from the grassy area, and not a huge wooded area, so no real need to drive a search vehicle back there. Seems a foot search would make more sense right there. That spot (pump house woods) makes me very suspicious.

I read that the volunteer searches covered 12 square miles. A 12 mile radius would be a tad over 113 square miles.

EVANSDALE (KWWL) -

Authorities have left Meyers Lake, taking down the crime scene tape and apparently reopening the area to the public. A special dive team from the Federal Bureau of Investigation was brought in to search the lake using sophisticated sonar on Friday.

Okay, what is the next step?
