Missing Iowa Girls' Case Hampered By Key Witnesses Not Coming Forward FBI Says

Earlier this week, officials asked that someone who was seen paddle-boating on Meyers Lake that Friday contact authorities, but the person still has not done so, Breault said this morning.

“They’ve had several people who think someone was (paddle-boating on the lake), but they’re still looking for someone who was said to be out there,” she said.

On Wednesday, a warrant was issued for another man arrested with Morrissey on drug charges in December 2011. Jason Stolfus, 37, of Waterloo, is wanted for contempt of court, according to the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department website.

Breault would not comment on whether Stolfus has been looked into in relation to the girls’ disappearance.

That kind of changes things for me. If there were several witnesses to the paddle boat, and no one has come forward, it is like the driver of the damnwhitetruck in Mickey Shunick's case, not coming forward, imo.

I had thought of a few ways the paddle boat might have been used in an abduction, without the girls even being placed in the boat.

For example, the girls reportedly went riding at 11:30, then went back to town at 12:15, then went towards the lake.

What if they were at the lake in their first bike ride, around 11:45 or so. And they met an acquaintance who had a paddle boat, maybe. So he said they could go for a ride. The girls decided to make an appearance at the house, so grandma would not be worried. So they went to the parking lot by their house and they saw grandma in the yard. They probably knew she saw them.

Then they rode back to the lake as fast as they could. The paddle boater said they needed to ride to a certain spot in the shore, and drop their bikes, and wait for him there. ....[ from there an accomplice could have been waiting with a van.]

OR the paddleboater could have pointed to a home and said go wait there for me and I will bring the boat around there and pick you up...

Hope LE is correct that these are not 'our girls'.

"Waldera said that when she picked up the shoe, a leg bone with khakis pants and a sock was attached. Waldera said the shoe was a large men's tennis shoe."

My opinion, it's probably not related to the girls.

David Mullin, a defense attorney for Jason Stolfus, who was arrested with Mr Morrissey and faces the same charges, said police reports show Mr Morrissey implicated his client in crimes after both were arrested in December.

But he said Stolfus would not have a motive to take the children because he has been offered a favorable plea deal in which he would likely avoid prison.
'The consequences will be so little that it would hardly be a motive to witness tamper or anything like that,' Mr Mullin said.

The charges against Mr Morrissey, on the other hand, carry 45 years in prison apiece because he is a repeat offender.

If Jason S had such a great plea deal on the table, why would he no-show and blow it?

Oh NO! I never trust when they say the remains are unrelated. How many dead people can there be, just floating around in a lake in Iowa?!

I live like 10 miles from Evansdale - and to think that it is SO close to home is scary - if it was one of my grandkids missing - I would NOT be smiling - laughing - drinking at bars - I would be a MESS!

Welcome!:seeya:

Looks like it was a men's tennis shoe so this is likely someone else. Although it is unreal the amount of bodies, abduction attempts, and other nefarious crimes that are going on in Iowa right now.

Surprisingly, she's pretty articulate as well. IMO

I thought the same thing. Attractive too. She could have had a career in broadcasting.

I am sure it is their policy for exactly this reason, so they do not have to produce it. This is the same policy in most law firms and many other professions, like consultants. Drafts are destroyed the moment a document is finalized to prevent it being subpeona'd. It is a very common policy.

Learn something new everyday. I didn't know that.

Totally MOO, so please don't flame me....I had spent years volunteering with adolescents from turbulent homes (not in care of bio parents). One thing to remember is that these parents who have so many demons of their own (addiction, criminal charges, poverty, turbulent relationships of their own, mental/psych issues) often have somewhat 'removed' reactions to their own children's issues. I think it is because they are so consumed in their own drama they have little capacity for the plight of their children's as well.

Again, my observation/opinion only....

My experience was with a family member who wasn't involved in the day-to-day care of her infant son. Years later she ran away with a high school student who was only 4 years older than her son. I remember her mother saying: "She wouldn't have been able to leave her son if she'd changed his diapers more often." Referring in her own way to the lack of early bonding. MOO

I believe it was Lyric and cousin.

Surely they didn't ride bikes all that way (since we've been told they stayed close to home) but I was under the impression that they were on bikes

Yes, according to Misty M, Lyric had been with another cousin, not Elizabeth, when she was late. I see references to "walking" though:

D. MORRISSEY: I was in Waterloo at my mom`s house with my son. And I was taking a nap, and my wife called and woke me up and told me that Lyric was missing.

This had just happened probably four days before, that where she was supposed to go to, you know, a certain destination and then come back, and after a while she hadn`t come back. And they went to that destination and she wasn`t there. And so things got stirred up. My wife called me then and told me the same thing, that she`s missing. And I told her to call the cops.

And they went around to drive around some more, and all of a sudden my daughter`s calling me from my wife`s phone and saying, "Daddy." You know?

So four days after that I`m getting another call from my wife and saying the same thing, you know. So I`m like what? And so she was out looking for her and I guess, you know, the police got involved and...

Snipped

M. MORRISSEY: Yes. A week before this, Lyric and her other cousin, Tammy`s daughter, 🤬🤬🤬, who were in Green Briar, which is another division of Waterloo, and they went walking to the park.
They were gone for an extended amount of time. We went looking for them at the park, and they weren`t there. So we called the police. They -- right when I called the police they came walking up to the house.

-- Yes. He also said they usually turn around at the end of his street. At the end of his street is also where the house owned by JW's parents is located.

I don't think we definitively know that...do we?

Perhaps Jason is the body in the lake.

Are there just a lot of lakes in Iowa?
Yikes! I was busy finding out the Jason stuff and didn't see about the leg until now.

A lot of these people never really grow up themselves.

They are mentally arrested at whatever age it was they started using. In DM's case, judging by his kidult skaterboy clothing, it was around 13. I'm just waiting for him to show up somewhere with his hat on backwards.

I live south of Des Moines and I am the same way, we never even used to lock the doors in our small town, but now I make sure they are locked tight and glad we have a dog.

I respectfully disagree...my husband is 47, works out 5 days a week, is very fit and you can see his pacemaker just like in the picture of HC. I am not saying it is definately a pacemaker, but on people with a low BMI they are very visable.

I used to work in nursing homes, and knew of several patients with pacemakers and they were very visible. My sister has had one for about 12 years, and I think my brother got one a few years ago, but I don't know if theirs are visible or not, but I think you're right, it depends on their build, if they're skinny or fleshy.
