Ok, time for a new train of thought for me. Everybody seems to have a vague picture in their heads of what a person who would do this would be like, but there other types of perps. What if (again) there were a couple of teens who had a friend with a truck or van and used it to bring their own bikes to the lake, and that's what TG saw. They could have parked the vehicle, rode the bikes over a bit, dropped them, and hid while waiting there for the girls to get there. It could be someone who lives within a couple blocks of Elizabeth's house, and has been talking with the girls on their bike rides, and they may have told them they were going to be at the lake if they wanted to meet them there to ride for a while and maybe have a picnic or something.

Once the girls got there and got off their bikes, they could have gone around the fence trying to figure out where the boys were (since their bikes were laying there). The boys come out of hiding carrying some food. Once the started eating, they could tell them that they'd found something interesting in the woods just before the girls got there (baby rabbits or something) and offer to show them. Once they got over there, they could get them into the vehicle, go grab their bikes and take off. If there were 3 of them (2 with the bikes and 1 driving), it could also explain the 3 energy drink cans.

Next....:rollercoaster:

If that had happened, shouldn't the swerving cyclist have seen four bikes?

I still need to catch up completely, but someone mentioned upthread that they didn't think a normal 10 yr old would run away. I jut wanted to add that I know a few people who threatened to run away when they got mad at their parents. And none of these children were from drug-addicted homes, and this was before the internet (computers were starting to be around but not the internet). I babysat a little girl in the mid-eighties when I was 12 and that was her "go-to" response when she was angry at her parents for grounding her, or reprimanding her. Sometimes her mom would offer to pack her lunch...lol It was funny because we all knew she wouldn't do it. One of my older siblings also threatened to run away. This is back in the early 70's. She ran away - to our backyard into the playhouse my dad built for everyone. I was just an infant so I don't remember but the story goes as soon as it started to turn to dusk, she hightailed it back in the house as she was not a fan of the dark.

Anyway sorry for rambling, I just wanted to give my opinion that I do not believe a child has to be in a very negative and harmful environment to threaten to run away. Children often think in terms of black and white and are very controlled by their emotions. When they feel extreme emotions, sometimes they need to react with the same intensity that they are feeling. Threatening to run away is probably the worst thing they could think to do - knowing their parents would not want them to go. I hope this makes sense - it is late and I am getting ready to head to bed. I've been down listening to the scanner for a while and my brain is fried!

No offense meant to anyone - I respect everyone's opinions here. I just wanted to give my thoughts based on my own experiences.

When you consider both parents extensive criminal records, I would consider Lyric to be in a negative and harmful environment.

Misty had just got out of rehab and had spent 4 years in a federal penitentiary on earlier drug charges.

Her father is heading to prison on drug and domestic violence charges, against her mother.

Neither held a job in recent memory, until Misty started at the Casey's a few weeks ago. Lyric lived with relatives for most of her life.

Not if he went by after the boys got there, but before the girls did. They may have said they had to go check in with grandma before they could go. The boys could have gotten there and already hid shortly before he went by at 12:20, while the girls were riding past the house and waving at grandma at 12:15 or 12:19, whatever the time actually was for the video.

Ollipop posted a picture of 3 cans he found close to where the bikes were, but I don't remember when it was that it was posted, so I don't have a link right now. If he doesn't post one this morning, I'll look for it when I come on later. It's going on 6am here and I haven't been to bed yet, so I probably wouldn't find it if I look now.

<respectfully snipped>
I have to agree ... threatening to run away from home does not in any way imply that there is something wrong with the home. In this case, we do know that there were criminal comvictions for drug abuse in the home, so the home clearly wasn't ideal.

FTR, I have a very close relative who spent a couple years in prison for his role in meth manufacture. He was convicted of selling ingredients to an organized criminal group in the state, using his access to anhydrous ammonia (as a farmer) and then selling huge tanks of it so they could avoid buying it directly themselves (farmers use it for fertilizer). He was charged, convicted, and sentenced, and he had never tried meth, but was lured by the money he made in the deals. My point is that I have a better-than-outside understanding of that ugly world, and I know that some ppl get mixed up in the drug trade without ever using the drug itself. I also know ppl who claim to have tried meth ONCE. I'm not saying they were successful, but I believe this family was working to put this chapter behind them.

Many are assuming the parents have knowledge that they are not giving LE, but LE has said - other than for a brief day or two - that they are receiving 100% cooperation. I would believe that if the parents had info that could lead to the girls, that they'd have shared it by now.

These families are victims of this crime, at this time, as far as WS is concerned (at least that's my understanding).

SBM & BBM

It is true that for every drug you can name, the number of people who tried it socially (once or twice and then never again) is greater than the number of people who become addicted.

That is one of the big problems with anti-drug education in this country, starting in the 60s and continuing to this day (may have started sooner but this is the time span I witnessed). Anti-drug messages tend to imply that if tried once, the substance will be instantly addicting.

But it's not true. The problem is that people know others who tried the drug once or twice and never had problems with it.

For instance, I grew up in the late 60s and 70s. I knew plenty of people who tried cocaine once or twice and never used it again. It eroded my belief in the veracity of anti-drug messages because they were patently untrue.

Same thing with heroin, same thing with crack, same thing with angel dust, same same same.

In my experience, drug addicts don't make a decision to become addicts. For some reason, they try a hit of something believing that they can enjoy the experience once and not become addicted. Sometimes it is a form of self-medication (I have a friend who turned to heroin to cope with her PTSD after a gang rape in which none of the perps were arrested), sometimes it's social pressure, sometimes it's just curiosity. And then, some people find the first hit leads to a second hit and they are addicted before they realise what is happening.

I am really uncomfortable with accusing the family because they have not been named as suspects or persons of interest.

Daniel Morrissey on the stresses of having a missing daughter and niece -

"I'll tell you something about emotions. A lot of people base their decisions off emotions and it doesn't work out too well. They're angry, they make a bad decision, whatever," he said. "So emotions I try to keep control of and keep my head straight. During this time, it's definitely challenging, but I have to keep my mind right."

Why would that be?

Anyone would be forgiven for not having their "mind right" when their daughter is missing. :dunno:

What "decisions" does he have to make?

http://abcnews.go.com/US/cops-suspect-dad-missing-iowa-girls-case-family/story?id=16810959&page=2

I think this was in regards to him walking out on his interview/interrogation. I think he was defending himself as he felt that he was being spotlighted for walking out, hence the bad decision based on raw emotion. I cannot say that if my child was missing and LE was saying they knew I did it, that I would not walk out after getting my fill. IMHO

Sometimes even if a couple is divorced, there is still a proprietary attitude towards each other if they've had children together.
My hubby and I have been married going on 30 years, and he and his ex were only married for about 8 years, but she still acts sort of possessive of him when we are around, which is not very often, thank God. It irritates the you-know-what out of me, and it even bothers him somewhat, but not really much I can do about it. They had children together, so there is a bond there that will never go away.
I think sharing a child who goes missing might intensify that bond a little bit.

Also, it is possible for two people to love each other passionately but realise that they are not good partners in a romantic sense.

It is easier on everyone involved if they figure it out before getting married but sometimes it takes the experience of marriage for the pair to realise they are better off as friends only.

I don't know - I think they are like 5 steps ahead of everyone else. That could have been a purposeful statement to get the real perps to relax and mess up. Can't you just see somebody smiling and saying, "they don't have a CLUE! They are talking to psychics!!!" (While the FBI listens from a van down the street.)

I so hope you are right!

Can someone post a link showing LE found the bikes leaning against the fence? All I remember is the spokesman saying they were against the fence 'when he arrived'. But he would not have been the first LE there. TIA

Wait a minute. OMG. What if he did see the bikes at that time?

Okay, the girls ride their bikes to the lake at around 11:30. at around 12:10 their bikes were laying across the path because they were down by the shore doing whatever they were doing. [ talking to a guy on a paddle boat ?]

The guy on the boat says hey, if you girls want to borrow this boat then go meet me at the house on the corner.

So at 12:10 ish they ride their bikes back to the pking lot by Grandma, so they can 'check in' with her really quick. They wave to her, and ride back to the lake very fast so they can borrow the boat...

MAYBE TG saw them BEFORE the girls rode back to town, not after?

I think you might be on to something. Would this possibly account for the 2:30 sighting also, which according to Aunt T was of two girls on bikes?

“I don’t know if I believe (in psychic abilities) or not,” said Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson. “But in the absence of any evidentiary leads we are in the process of following up on them.

http://www.indystar.com/article/D2/20120727/LIFE/307270096/Psychics-flock-Evansdale-assist-missing-Iowa-girls-case?odyssey=nav%7Chead

This statement makes my heart hurt.

Awww, im not a big believer of psychic predictions and such, but a friends mom used to help our local police dept. she helped solve at least one case that i know of by taking them to the body. In retrospect, I dont think she claimed to have such fantastic futuristic abilities, but she had a tendency to think outside the box, and was very insightful. I wish id asked more questions about things. She was just a regular mom to us, and though we werent privy to what went on behind the scenes, she was a lot like the sleuthers here. :) she'd be an awesome ws member for her intelligence alone, but is now deceased. :(

*not knocking what i cant prove about psychics or those claiming abilities just my own experience. I can tell you she never had a tv show, and never profited by it, and didnt Have a website. In her family it was a respected gift and her children didnt have any abilities. So, dont lose heart, id like to hope out of all the proclaimed psychics maybe one truly is gifted in some way, and will bring the girls home. :please:
:moo:

Says an employee from John Deere had his time in and out checked by FBI...for the same day girls went missing

They did go missing at lunch time. Just sayin'....bosses should report any employee that came back late, had an appointment, or didn't return for some reason. Or was acting strange afterwards. imo

I saw that too and was confused but if you read his profile alittle more down from there it says John Deere to present.

Ding, ding, ding...or, if it is circular firing squad..wire him too.

What are the chances he is still seeing MCM? I mean, it's been publized to the world that she was in the hotel with her estranged hubby. Unless he was too? :what: Anyone remember the date of his arrest?
