There have been no actual "reports" that I have read, but the FBI spent a day and a half at the shop with the owner, working to identify all the vehicles on the tapes...so yes, it has been done did read the girls were the ONLY people on bikes that day, so that tells me it's a fairly quiet street.

The FBI by now will have a very good idea of what cars and people were about that day, all over town...which is why it is odd that they haven't requested sightings of, say, a black suv or a white van (sexual perverts vehicles of choice btw). They will have traced the cars on the road, the ownership of the cars, where the drivers went, what they bought if they shopped, etc.

God I love cctv :) Its every where now, and more and more crime is solved because of it.
I believe cops have a lot more information and evidence than I at first thought. Although"........ I found their admittance of nothing new at the last presser sad. I m hoping the girls are found within the next day to two.an arrest could be eminent. Imhoo

The bikes.... You mean the bikes that we have never seen?

I'm pretty sure it was sixteen miles that the daughter said very early on that he rode that Friday.

Gah my reply went poof.

If he weighs 210 he burns about 800 calories an hour riding at 12-14 mph. If he is not compensating his calories burned with calories consumed then he'd be losing over a pound a week.

Very unscientific research on a very unlikely topic. I just have a hard time seeing an exercise enthusiast eating unhealthy. Unless its hot tamales, then I understand completely.

Yes, it has been extensively discussed.

The answer from the station was that it was a live interview and the "raw footage" was identical to what had been shown.

In general, TV news (and newspaper reporters, etc) destroy their raw material as soon as a story runs because they do not want to be placed in the position of being an unofficial arm of law enforcement.

This has some drawbacks, of course, but a free press is vital to the freedom of the people. It's worth putting up with the drawbacks.

When I was a reporter, I was told to get rid of my notebooks when they were full so they couldn't be subpoenaed or used against me in any way. I didn't just in case I ever needed old notes for an ongoing story ... but I can see why it would be in a reporter's best interest to not become a part of a story.

Timeline fits.

No, not as far as I know because he does not list his phone # which he does in all the other ads.

Not listing a # with that ad makes it even hinkier!

I try really hard to give people the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he just consumes an alarming number of calories in order to bike away that many calories and not be in shape.

I think what really stood out about him was that he rode his bike there the next day and talked to LE and they sent him to file a report. Why didn't he call it in on Friday when the girls were reported missing? I also wonder because he said "little girls bikes" when Lyric was riding a mountain bike.

I am frustrated because it seems like there are so many theories that could work.

Check out the coverage of RAGBRAI (short for Register Annual Bike Ride Across Iowa). There are about 10K authorised riders and who knows how many unauthorised. Mileage is 40-80 miles a day and there's always a century day included.

You'll see plenty of people riding RAGBRAI that look a lot like TG.

Sure, they pay for it (my dad used to be the travelling RAGBRAI doc) but most of them make the whole ride.

Well, I think it's more interesting what they ASKED for than what they GOT. If that makes sense.

Bodies aren't always needed. :o

No but proof is.

Even if they have evidence (and they have PLENTY of that here, trust me), they still need the other things, means, and of course, motive.

If my belief is correct, this is going to be a very involved investigation, with multiple POI's, all lying their heads off and butt covering.

However, no one is as smart as they think they are, especially in this case. LE will build a trap themselves, bit by bit, until all of those involved are caught. This will take time.

Beware of the CSI effect.

I don't think it's victim blaming just like saying a woman who was abused as a child is more likely to marry someone who is an abuser. However, in this case, I think because of her background and upbringing Lyric might be more street smart and self-sufficient.

I'm not getting a real sense of how Lyric was brought up in the media accounts.

Maybe her life has been full of turmoil and upheaval. That's certainly possible with two parents who have substance abuse problems.

On the other hand, her grandmother has had legal custody of her since 2007; I think it's also possible that Lyric's primary caregiver has been her grandmother and that her grandmother is actually more like her mother. So for all I know, she may have had a stable life, centred around Grandma Cook as her parent.

Sapphire Steel -
Question for you. I think I finally figured out what you are saying and what your theory is. So that I know if I am on the right track - can you answer one question for me?

I think, if my suspect is the same as yours, I now understand why JC might want to overdose. Is that correct?

(And no, the suspect is NOT JC)

TIA!

Yup. The tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The big bad wolf masquerading as gma (someone usurping gma's authority). My what big hands you have, my what big eyes you have, my what big teeth you have...

Only the lumberjack saves LRRH.

I want to ask this again for the hundredth time, :).

Has there been any report about a vehicle picked up by the surveillance camera after or right before the girls rode by?

Not that I know of.

However, I don't read every single story in the media about the case; mostly I've stuck to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier.

Not that I know of, but hopefully so. Like I said earlier, the last 2 arrests in major cases came from that exact thing.

They caught Sierra Lamar's predator by seeing his red Jetta on camera in both places that were of interest----her last known whereabouts and the place he dumped her belongings.

And of course the infamous white truck in the Mickey Shunick case. They caught him following her bicycle that night.

So I have to believe they are poring through that video and trying to find out who was driving around the girls in the last sighting. I bet they also looked at all of the parking lot vids of the local gas stations and Casey's etc.
I've tossed that idea around in my head. The possible idea that LE has a vehicle on tape, that passed by soon after the girls were seen.

Very true. I've known a few people who were taken from the their parents and put into a family member's custody ... something about them makes them seem to have more spunk. Maybe not more maturity, but a sense of what's going on around them. I'm not saying she has this at all, but my gut tells me this girl would have fought even if her cousin had a knife to her throat. However, if it wasn't a stranger abduction or if someone used something to make the girls willingly go, I don't know how she would have reacted ... maybe she would have jumped at the chance for attention.

I agree. And she had a very close relationship with the Collins family which probably provided a strong stable cohesive factor as well.
