I posted this over in Jake’s thread but want to leave it here too

Would be interesting to map out and show the path of where Jake, Mollie, Elizabeth and Lyric all went missing. As well as where Elizabeth and Lyric were found. Surely no connection. But without definitive proof it’s called certainly worth trying to triangulate or see visually what the information shows”. Proximity wise they all seem quite close

I'll try to put something together if you can give me the information for Mollie and Jake. Mollie's thread is moving so fast, I've stayed out of it, so I don't have details. JMO, maps are usually very helpful in these situations.

I was wondering if she might have been mistaken for a child as well and now that Millie's bf has been ruled out, I think it warrants another look for a connection. I'm out of town at the moment and it frustrates to attempt researching on my phone so I guess I'll have to wait.

I just heard about Mollie Tibbetts who's been missing from Brooklyn Iowa since July 19 (six years and six days since the day Lyric and Lizzy disappeared). Brooklyn is close to a direct shot 60 miles south of Evansdale. I haven't read all of Mollie's thread, yet. Has anyone here that's familiar with both cases seen any connections between the two? There are obvious differences, of course.

The only connection I see, so far, it’s that LE is taking the same “radio silence” approach, keeping everything close to the vest and not sharing much with the public.

...Update... a press conference has been scheduled for 1:30today. Let’s hope I’m completely wrong.

It's Iowa, and small-town Iowa at that. Small-town Iowa doesn't like to admit when a crime happens.

Lyric and Lizzy brought me to Websleuths back in 2012. I didn't create an account at the time, but I've followed their case since I got the frightening call from my mom back then. I grew up in the Evansdale area, and my family still lives there. I spent time at Meyers Lake, where the girls' bikes were found during my childhood. Last fall I visited Angels Park for the first time, the memorial park for the girls and other Iowa children taken too soon.

Mollie brought me back to Websleuths and sleuthing in general, after keeping my distance from it for sometime. From what I've read, I really don't think there's a connection. Lyric and Elizabeth's case fits more closely to Kathlynn and Dezi's, even though the guy was ruled out because they couldn't connect him to Evansdale. I've long suspected a partner they haven't found yet. Or a copycat.

Welcome back thecatmeows it is great to have you here. I’m really glad the girls and other children missing have Angels Memorial Park to remember them.

Evansdale is only a little more than 1 hour away from Brooklyn Iowa where Mollie Tibbetts has now gone missing.

The only real similarities in the cases are that they both took place in eastern Iowa as well as the mass media coverage. I can't see them being connected.

For me, I find it's best to keep an open mind as to whether or not the two cases are related. We actually have no idea what similarities might exist. In fact, we don't know much at all.

We know very little about what happened to Lyric and Lizzy. We know they were taken and found dead. We don't know who took the girls nor why. We don't know where they were located when taken. We don't know how they died. There is no known witness.

With Mollie, we know even less. We don't know where Mollie is located or if she is alive or dead. We don't know what happened at the time of her disappearance, where she was when she disappeared nor who was involved. As far as we know, there is no witness.

There are real similarities other than eastern Iowa and media coverage:
Evansdale and Brooklyn are both small communities where people felt safe - until they weren't.
The communities are about an hour apart.
Apparently, there are no witnesses to what happened in Evansdale and whatever happened in Brooklyn.
LE has not shared that they have found physical evidence in either case.
The two cases are nearly exactly 6 years apart (Evansdale, 13 July 2012 and Mollie 18 or 19 July 2018).
Lyric and Lizzy were taken during daylight hours. We don't know when Mollie disappeared, but if it was while she was running on the evening of July 18, it was likely during daylight hours as well.

Are there other similarities? Only LE knows. Until we know more, I'm keeping an open mind.

My apologies for not keeping a more open mind; you do make some interesting points. What's interesting about both cases is that there appear to be no witnesses in these small communities. Evansdale is, however, a suburb of Waterloo - and there is a lot of gang/drug activity in the city. Even as a kid, I never felt 100% safe riding around Evansdale/Elk Run - my family resided in Elk Run, a neighboring suburb). My parents and grandparents were super protective of me, though, and drilled safety tips in my head and there were specific streets I was not allowed to ride my bike because of "rumors" about the people who lived on those streets.

I did sometimes ride from Elk Run to Meyers Lake (2-3 miles) - but I never rode around the lake, the area where the girls' bikes were found. The first time I went back there was after the girls went missing with my mom. I have a hard time imagining most kids would ride back there, so I've often wondered if the bikes were staged there - still strange that would happen in broad daylight with no witnesses whatsoever. I have often felt it was someone close to home that at least one of the girls may have met previously, so they thought it was safe to go with him. Brooklyn is about an hour from Iowa City, but it is definitely more rural than Evansdale.

To be honest, I don’t think they are related, but I wouldn’t rule it out at this point. It would be nice to solve this horrific crime.

I too see many similarities. In addition to those you mention, I see the following:
  • predator is invisible and blends well into the community
  • predator seems to be very calculating
  • police search extensively in what is likely wrong place based on evidence (search at lake in Evansdale, search near Guernsey)
  • victims are short/small
