MSM, found deceased. Death is being treated as suspicious, I wonder why.

At about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, police received reports that a body was found in the Des Moines River in Wapello County. The remains have been identified as 60-year-old Showalter.

Police are investigating it as a suspicious death. The State Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.

Police say the remains of a missing Iowa woman have been found near the Des Moines River, and investigators are treating her death as suspicious. The Ottumwa Police Department says in a news release that a person hiking near the river Sunday afternoon found the remains of 60-year-old Helen Elizabeth Showalter, of Ottumwa. Showalter had been reported missing a day earlier by her family members. Police have not said Showalter died, but say an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday and that the death is being investigated as suspicious. No arrests have been reported in Showalter's death

Count me in as one who is shocked by this conclusion, as well. Never saw a DV type of issue coming.

Rest peacefully, Helen. Comforting thoughts to family and friends.

An Iowa man was arrested 20 hours after failing to appear in court the day he was found guilty of murdering his wife in 2021.

Sgt. Derek Shaw with the Ottumwa Police told PEOPLE that Gregory Showalter Sr., 63, was found guilty on Friday of murder in the first degree, abuse of a corpse, willful injury causing serious injury, and domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bloody injury.

According to Sgt. Shaw, Showalter had posted bond and was “out in the community” while he awaited trial.
