Found Deceased IA - Jake Wilson, 16, La Porte City, 07 Apr 2018 *autistic*

This boy may have had behavioral issues and at 16 scould have been very difficult to handle due to his size. He may have angered and exhausted his family, neighbors, and caretakers. Someone who was angry with Jake may have killed him.

That's a lot of teenagers going missing in the same area.

Okay, here are all the points under discussion. I also included Erin Pospisil, 15, missing 2001 from Cedar Rapids. Google Maps
Thank you!

Does anyone notice any patterns or anything?

If you expand the timeframe, you get a bunch more.

There's also half a dozen cases of couples being murdered together.

That's... concerning. What's up down there?

I don't know -- and I also don't know whether if you plotted cases in other states you'd get a similar profile. These particular cases seem anomalous to me, but with so many missing people and cold cases, odd coincidences will happen.

Of the 397 missing in Iowa as of July 30, 26 are listed as “involuntary disappearances,” dating back to 1979. Another 51 are on the “endangered” list, “circumstances indicating that his/her physical safety is in danger.” That list includes Jake Wilson, a child with mild autism from La Porte City who was reported missing April 7.

Mollie Tibbetts gets far more coverage than other missing persons. Is media bias to blame?

I was looking through that list last week, 3 of those “involuntary disappearances” and/or “endangered” stuck out to me. Three 12-13 year old boys went missing in Des Moines in the late 80’s, 2 of them were last seen delivering papers...

Not that it’s related to anything going on now, but that certainly caught my eye.

Looks like that topic has already been covered...

This is my theory about this boy. Someone not angry, but frustrated, and who snapped.

I'm leaning toward this as well. Caregiver burnout (not that harming him is in any way excusable)

I respect your opinions, but somehow can't find even the slightest proof to support them...

I agree with posters who have said they think he is likely in the water.

I have a child with autism and he is fascinated by water. He is younger than Jake and I don't know enough about Jake to begin to compare them in any specific way but I know that my son would not register any danger in rapidly moving water like that and would not be able to be sufficiently careful. Also some of my son's body movements that are pretty typical of kids with autism would likely make him more likely to slip and fall on a slippery bank while not being sufficiently careful.

I hope Jake is found.

Edited to try to clarify where I'm talking about Jake vs my own child

I’ve heard this from others. I think you’re right.

“It’s a runaway child, and this person has a history of it,” said Capt. Brian Sher of the Indianola Police Department. “Social media has gone crazy on this: 'Everyone is disappearing off the face of the earth!'

"Don’t get me wrong: We take all cases seriously," he said. "But this was a voluntary issue.”

I find this quite a disturbing comment to come from a Law Enforcement official. How the hell do any of us know what has happened to a child after they have ran away? Runaways are high risk for trafficking. Jesus, that's awful. No wonder the public don't care if he doesn't.

I get so frustrated at the lack of media coverage for some cases vs. others. I mean...we have only had enough stuff to talk about for 15 pages here in this thread. But then look how many threads there are for Mollie. It's because the media is reporting so much more. It upsets me. Especially as someone who has an autistic son.

I feel sad too...

Four months now, can't believe it:(

Video at link

Tuesday marks 4 month since Jake Wilson disappeared

Mom says it was normal for Jake to go for a walk.

The thing I keep wondering about is the fact that he left home 9 o’clock at night.

I wanted to see the actual weather report for the day he went missing, April 7, 2018.

The closest location to La Porte City for which information is available is Vinton-Veterans Memorial Station, which is about 20 driving miles southeast of La Porte City.

It appears at 9 pm, the temperature was about 30 F with a wind speed of 5 mph. No precipitation for the day.

Sunset was at 7:41 pm, civil twilight (“”Civil twilight is the brightest form of twilight. There is enough natural sunlight during this period that artificial light may not be required to carry out outdoor activities“) at 8:09 pm, and nautical twilight at (“This [nautical] twilight period is less bright than civil twilight and artificial light is generally required for outdoor activities”) at 8:43 pm, so by 9 pm, the sky would have been almost completly dark, IMO. I also wonder if Jake’s poor vision makes it difficult for him to see in the dark.

I’m still wondering if there was someone who lured him to the creek and then took him elsewhere ....
