Des Moines Police Department detectives are requesting the community’s assistance with locating a missing person.

48-year-old Des Moines resident Joann Stone was last known to be at her Des Moines home on 27 April 2023. Her vehicle and other personal essentials were found at that location.

Des Moines Police Department detectives have learned that Stone was last seen at a medical facility in the 1600 block of 60th Street, West Des Moines, IA, at approximately 2:15 a.m. on 28 April 2023. Stone left the facility prior to receiving necessary treatment.

Stone is approximately 5’4” tall, and weighs approximately 140 lbs. Attached is a photograph provided by her family.

Anyone who believes that they have recently seen Stone, or has information regarding her location, is asked to call 911.

Did she drive her vehicle to the medical facility and back home, or was she transported by someone else?

Police said her essential items and her vehicle were located at her home in Des Moines.

UPDATE:

At approximately 3:41 p.m., first responders from Clive and West Des Moines responded to the 12400 block of Woodlands Parkway, Clive, to investigate a report of a deceased person found at a pond.

Des Moines Police Department detectives and investigators with the Des Moines Police Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene.

The deceased person has been tentatively identified as Joann Stone.

Preliminary examination of the scene shows no indication of criminal action related to this death. Confirmation of cause and manner of death will be made by the Polk County Medical Examiners Office.

Des Moines Police Department detectives continue to investigate this incident. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

I agree. Was hoping for better news. I wonder if mental health related? Seems to happen more and more. Prayers for her loved ones . May she be at peace.
