Altoona police searching for missing 50-year-old man

Kenneth Wade, of Altoona, was reported missing to local police Thursday morning.

Wade is described as a 5-foot-10 white male weighing about 165 pounds with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing a tan T-shirt and jeans.

Wilson said police have been searching for his whereabouts, and a volunteer earlier in the week brought a dog to check some of his routine jogging areas, but the results were inconclusive.

A Facebook page titled "Searching for Kenny Wade" was set up Saturday. The page says Wade was last seen Wednesday afternoon, with his last known whereabouts on the Gay Lea Wilson Trail that runs from Pleasant Hill to Altoona.

"WHAT WE KNOW AS OF 9/3/18: The last known whereabouts of Kenny was on the Gay Lea Wilson Trail that runs from Pleasant Hill to Altoona. The scent was picked up and ended near 17th Ave. SW in Altoona, across from The Brewhouse and the Dog Park. This was Wednesday August 29th, between noon and 2pm. He does not have his cell phone and as we know it he was on foot. His vehicle was left parked near the trail on 27th St. There have been multiple searches both north to Altoona on 17th Ave Sw and south of 27th st towards Pleasant Hill. Volunteers have also searched on the tracks and near the creek as able. If you know anyone who walks or rides that trail who may have seen Kenny, please share!! No detail is too small!" (bbm)

Where KW's scent ends is extremely close to railroad tracks. This line is operated by Iowa Interstate Railroad. Does anyone here know how to figure out freight train schedules, and if it is possible to determine how fast they run on this part of the line? Is it possible that he could have jumped aboard a passing train?

From what I've read on the FB site, the PD is active in their search for KW, and most likely are on top of train schedules, etc.

Five days later, search for missing Altoona man continues

Altoona police said Tuesday that the body of a man reported missing last week was found Tuesday.

Police said the body was found by a volunteer search and rescue team in a wooded area off the trail north of where his vehicle had been found.

Police did not release an immediate cause of death, and said the investigation continues, but no foul play is suspected.
