[h=3]Details of Disappearance[/h] Kneifl was last seen in his hometown of Sioux City, Iowa on February 14, 1983. He left his girlfriend's residence at 9:30 p.m., driving his dark brown 1981 Cadillac Fleetwood with the Iowa license plate number HIZ379. He has never been heard from again.

Kneifl's girlfriend and her daughter reported him missing after he failed to show up the next morning to drive his girlfriend to work. They had been seeing each other for years.

Around the time of his disappearance, Kneifl had been trying to convince his daughter, Kandy, to leave her husband, Delbert Beauchene. Delbert had been in prison three times and was facing a fourth term in 1983.

Kneifl had evidence about his son-in-law's criminal activities which he hoped would keep him in prison for a long time, and planned to testify against him. He went missing before he could give his testimony, but it's unclear whether this had anything to do with his disappearance.

Delbert continued to get in trouble for both civil and criminal offenses in the years following Kneifl's disappearance. Both he and Kandy are now deceased.

Kneifl owned and operated a dry cleaning business, Fethke Cleaners, in the 1200 block of west 26th Street at the time of his disappearance. His wife helped him run it for over thirty years until her death in 1978. He previously served as the mayor of Hartington, Nebraska, the only mayor in the city's history to be elected with write-in votes.

Authorities believe Kneifl was taken against his will and may have been the victim of a homicide. His case remains unsolved.

Case summary compiled by Jody Ewing
On February 16, 1983, 58-year-old Maurice Kneifl was reported missing to the Sioux City Police Department by Kneifl’s girlfriend, Joyce Fish — whom he’d been dating for many years — and her daughter, Lori.

Maurice Kneifl was last seen driving a 1981 dark brown or black Fleetwood Cadillac similar to the one shown above. The vehicle also remains missing.

Maurice reportedly was last seen on February 14, 1983, driving his 1981 dark brown Fleetwood Cadillac, Iowa license plate, HIZ379.

Kneif was described as a 58-year-old 5-foot-7 white male with green eyes, brown hair and weighing about 200 pounds. Kneif also wore dark framed glasses.

Kneifl had left his girlfriend’s residence around 9:30 p.m. When he failed to show up in the morning to give her a ride to work, Joyce became concerned and began making calls.

Kneifl owned and operated Fethke Cleaners located at 1209 West 26th Street in Sioux City. He failed to show up for work on February 15 and all days thereafter.

Kneifl — a respected local businessman — had served as mayor of Hartington, Nebraska, for many years. He was the city’s only mayor not running for office to win an election via write-in votes.

He and his wife owned a dry cleaning business for over 30 years before her death on Feb. 18, 1978.

Foul Play Suspected
At the time of Kneifl’s disappearance, he’d been trying to convince one of his two daughters, Kandy, to leave her husband, Delbert Beauchene, who was facing his fourth incarceration.

Beauchene, the owner of Interstate Speedway (now Raceway Park) had served three separate stints in prison — both with the state and the federal penitentiary — and was in trouble once again.

Kneifl had evidence regarding his son-in-law’s illegal activities and was prepared to testify with what he thought was sufficient evidence to put Beauchene away for good.

Kneifl turned up missing before he had the opportunity to testify.

Kandy passed away on August 20, 2004, and Beauchene, who suffered from kidney problems, died March 4, 2008.

Neither Kneifl’s body nor his car has ever been found.

I have the impression that his son-in-law deceived him with something and lured him to his death.. or he paid a hit man to avoid being involved in the case.. I feel that the daughter perhaps also helped in his disappearance since apparently she never left the guy .. father's wisdom that in the end led him to death...
rest in peace

There are a bunch of newspaper ads from September 1982 saying Maurice wanted to lend money for any purpose, $1000 to $10 million.

Also, a local court reporter applied for conservatorship over his property in June 1983.

EXACTLY how do you know that and where's the ads/proof? Who exactly applied for conservatorship over his property? Show us proof.

I'm calling BS on this.

I know because I looked on newspapers.com and found 31 ads between September 14-30 in the Des Moines Tribune and Des Moines Register stating so. You can look them up too if you make an account. They all look like the ones I've attached, which are the earliest and latest examples I could find. I'm also attaching the conservatorship application notice, which ran three times.

FYI you could have nicely asked me to post the ads instead of demanding "proof" and accusing me of lying. I'm usually happy to help and I'm not sure where the hostility is coming from. Do you have a personal connection to this case?
