I am born and raised in Iowa and am somewhat familiar with Brooklyn and the surrounding areas. Although the town itself is very small, the surrounding areas where you would search is incredibly overwhelming... making it really difficult to send the cadaver dogs just everywhere. My brother in law has a drug dog (he's LE) and while both drug and cadaver dogs can do amazing things, they have their limitations. It takes an incredible amount of set up to get these dogs prepped and ready to search. When you do set them off to search, they only last so long before they get tired, distracted, etc. Due to this and many other circumstances (costs, time, you name it) they typically only get them involved when they evidence or tips to search specific areas. Brooklyn is quite honestly probably one of the worst places she could have vanished simply because of how incredibly rural it is all around the town... it's overwhelming.
if it is difficult terrian then most likely a suspect is not going to go to far in to depose of stuff

I too thought this was impromptu. I really think somebody tipped a reporter about this man being interviewed by LE and media showed up at his door. Very strange given an investigation with such control over the details...
Yep he didn't remind me of the family camping "friend" in the DeOrr case, but the kind of interview kinda did...
[DeOrr we still care "little man"]

I pray today is they day they locate her.

You actually reminded me of something I was wondering about: Have there been searches every single day since the 19th? I remember LE at one point asked people to stop searching, because they needed people at home so they could be interviewed. Does anyone know how/when searches have been conducted in the last week or so?

During the presser this morning, did they plead for someone to bring her home? or address the POI directly? I'm curious what the professionals tell the family prior to these things. If there is a lot of planning and do this, don't do that...I wonder what has worked in the past and what hasn't.

Article published on 27 July:

In an interview Wednesday on HLN, Tibbetts' mother, Laura Calderwood, said the family was told they would get an FBI agent for the case. "That turned into approximately 15 FBI agents," she said.

"In my morning brief this morning, I have been told there's more on the way," Calderwood said.

Hmmmmm. What does that mean? Maybe LE has had a break in the case.
Let's hope so. Please, for the family.

Valid point. Lots of rolling hills in that area, mixture of farms and wooded areas, but there are plenty of back roads, so still could be a possibility.

If there is a POI...and I am not seeing it...jmo it has to be someone they can physically see, otherwise they very much should have been able to track such a person by now to whatever “secret place” he might be using. It is impossible for me to believe that LE can’t locate a person within two weeks these days...everyone uses some device, cash machine, credit card, etc...all jmo but this seemingly dormant period we are seeing says they do NOT have a POI or that the person is not missing as well, which does not bode well for Mollie.

This has been my assumption, that they have a POI but that person is not missing (hence there is no search for that person or a plea for that persons whereabouts in connection to her disappearance, as you would typically see). Their pleas have often heavily focused on other people coming forward to give evidence of suspicious behavior, because whatever interview they conducted didn't give them enough for a warrant to do any more with that person (detain, search, etc).

I think what we see in the interview is the family coming to an important and pivotal point in the missing case. Even LE & FBI are aware this is piquing. They are making a hard fighting push to elevate Mollie in the headlines and public view to get her back home knowing that the case will naturally go quiet. At some point LE stops having anything to share, the media tapers off in their reporting, the public looses interest and some forget, the missing person falls out of the view of the headlines and it just becomes a cold case.

I am one of the posters who has believed she is alive. However, after the Wed. PC and additional interviews by family I am feeling much more stress and an ominous fear for those who love Mollie. We have all seen this before, it's all too familiar.
I'm so sorry for the family and community. I hope they can get Mollie home!

There’s lots of local chatter in on other sites about where LE is located at this very moment, searching.

I pray today is they day they locate her.
The minute I heard Mollie's Mother say "We think Mollie's alive,".... and "Mollie was a strong girl," in this mornings (reward) news conference, my heart sunk. I think Mollie will be located very soon but not alive. (I've not typed those words before) :(:(

HLN reported spoke with husband and wife neighbors of Mollie. I'll paraphrase until we get a video.

250-300 folks showed up to search. They were divided into groups of 40 with a leader. Searched railroad tracks, farm buildings, sloughs, ditches. Then that afternoon they were directed by LE to corn fields walking arm distance apart all the way across the fields. Wife said it was so very creepy, afraid of what they might find and how they all emerged at the same time like Children of the Corn. They both feel, and most towns folks feel, that Mollie is alive and being held nearby. She implied cautiously it was a sex crime. Wife said the dogs were well fed and watered.
If the dogs were well fed and watered, that seems like a morning disappearance. Otherwise, wouldn't have all their food been gone?

Would be surprised if she was randomly abducted at this point given how everything has played out. Either it's someone she knew, maybe even casually, or left willingly. A random abduction makes so little sense at this point given what we know.

I think just the opposite. Anybody she knew has already been investigated. It's about a 99% chance it is somebody she didn't know.

Exactly. Search within a half-mile of a road, unless there are tire tracks indicating an off-road vehicle. Unfortunately, with so much farmland, you have to consider that a theoretical perp may have had a tractor. MOO.

This exactly! Waiting to see if there are new developments this afternoon. I have my own strong suspicions currently. There is a POI in MOO and he will be arrested soon.

I agree with not agreeing with that. I still think they have a POI based on the LE PC, they clearly just don't have a clue where she is being held. However at this point, its hard to imagine they are not trailing the POI so its concerning that the POI has not led them there. It would make me wonder how she is being fed, she can't go much longer without food and water if she is still alive.
I think they have suspicions and so might someone in the community.

Somebody might have information or suspicion or strange feeling about someone they know....and everyone is appealing to that person. If you know something that will help this family find Mollie, make the call - that's the sense I'm getting. They are appealing not necessarily to some random and serial perp, but someone with a sense of right and wrong - and who perhaps is connected to others in the community who also have a sense of right and wrong.

Someone knows something. Call, please.
