Edited to add: But yeah, mentioning the headphones is strangely specific, especially if they were wireless. Did she take one out to talk to him/(or tell him to p*ss off? Did she drop it during an altercation and then he picked it up?

Yes. ICE was involved in establishing his identity.

There’s lots of “far-fetched” theories that are possible, but the simplest, most logical, is that this was a sexually motivated homicide.

Or a sexually motivated assault that (too) quickly escalated to murder. I don't think that this was his first SA, but it may have been his first murder.

I think at least one verified attorney has pretty much said the same tonight, as have some other folks that I suspect are of a legal persuasion, but I wanted to clarify that I was the one who had been talking about CR possibly being tried outside of Iowa.

Hey, they're your assumptions and you're entitled to them, but I don't have to drink your Kool-Aid, nor do you have to drink mine; and denigration is in the eye of the beholder Chuck.

Also, I was on the ground in New Orleans after Katrina, and had a chance to see FEMA and Homeland Security overstep their bounds. I don't ever want to see the Feds, or local LE, that out of control in a US city ever again! I guess I'm just funny that way.

(It was not one of your posts!) And especially when it's obvious, the intent was clear. ;-)

I suppose overstepping of bounds has occurred in various situations and I would not be surprised if CR ends up in Fed custody after an Iowa trial (for reasons which we are not permitted to expound upon, which are the same reasons I initially refrained from posting links in one or two of my previous posts to sites I used to base my opinions regarding CR, DHS and possible deportation).

There are circumstances where kidnapng can be elevated to the Federal level, but I don't think that applies in this case. However, the Feds can be very creative with filing charges and linking them to get where they want to go. I'm from Louisiana, and I've seen them do this a number of times, as has at least one past multi-term governor.

The feds could potentially use the fact that he used fraudulent documents in an effort to mislead his true identity. And he may have transported her in a federal interstate. All the evidence hasn’t been discovered at this point.

When I first read he said he had a piece of the ear phones in his hand, when he awoke from his memory block, I wondered if he had used them to strangle her. I'm not sure if at her stage of decomposition, the autopsy would reveal that. Also, if the cord is strong enough. In the pic it looks like it could be. MOO

I agree completely. This generally doesn’t come out of nowhere. I’d definitely expect some prior assault/sexual assaults.

I'm thinking that he has a long history of violence towards women, but that this is the first time it's been this close to home.

I too wondered about that too. There's an earbud on his lap, and she's wearing an earbud with the wire? Maybe police included this information to demonstrate that the suspect's story is not entirely believable.

It seems to me if there was an earbud on his lap it must have flown or snapped off and landed there. While he was in the car.

Ok! Thank you! So maybe he broke the wire in the struggle and that reminded him he put her in the trunk, in his words. I don't believe there was a memory block at all. Jmo

I can see if it was pulled on hard it might snap off and go flying. It would be easier if someone here had those. Not to suggest an experiment, just to see if they think it's possible.
