In this situation, I think that CR's motive is obvious (sexual/physical/emotional desire) and goes hand in glove with his intent (a forceful fullment of his prurient need). But thanks for the clarification.
I agree on motive

CR's ex was a cheerleader in high school. Am I wrong in assuming that MT's two other brothers played football like the younger brother. Could CR and MT have become acquainted somehow under the Friday night lights?
Absolutely they could all be acquainted. Mollie only has 2 brothers, and all 3 Tibbetts are longtime FB friends with xGF. The entire school population hovers around 200 and small town feel is most prevalent in the schools. Also, when your small town classmate/teammate is pregnant, Mollie either knew, or knew of the baby daddy (even if she didn't want to know)! MOO

I still think it was a blitz attack. In my mind I see Mollie doing her usual run. So many great things on her mind while listening to her music. Her work she loved, Dalton, their trip to the DR. He came upon her and then..............
Poor Dalton. He lost his soul mate, and never got to become Rob Tibbitts son -in- law because of what this heartless person did. I really hope he and Mollies dad stay close and maybe become advocates for missing persons or something like that.

I'm sure they're in shock now that they know what he is...moo.
Thank you for that, I couldn't remember where I saw it, so many threads, but it was the N.Y. Times , I think. Shocking. I used to love that paper way back when . Every Sunday. ..

Is anyone else thinking dissociative disorder psychopath?
I think he's an unrepentant predator who is as 'forgetful' as the circumstance calls for in the event of exposure.

  • #486
Could be, but we need alot more information.

Not to be fascious, but what about dissociative fugue states associated with PTSD. The abused become the abusers, or so I am told.

The Daily Mail reported that his parents ride donkeys to their agrarian jobs. Sounds nuts, but remember that NAFTA destroyed the Mexican economy at the time, because Mexican farmers could not afford to grow even subsistence corn crops cheaper than American corn shipped into the country. CR comes from a village of 500 people that is nothing like anything we are remotely familiar with in this country, not in this century, or maybe in the one before that. It is a completely different world, with different rules and norms, rampant crime and corruption in some areas. Less than 100 years ago the Mexican government hunted down and killed native mesoamericans who looked like CR (The Yaqui wars). This does not justify anything that CR has done, but please recall that his cultural milieu is radically different than ours, and that attempting to look at his psychology from our POV might be more of a stretch than we might realize. To layer on top of this abnormal psych manifestations, and a search for rational explanations in the face of irrational and prurient behaviors could make for a trip down the rabbit hole, a dark, confusing and frightening place!

Waves of cars and people make their way to BGM High School for Mollie Tibbetts funeral, on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, in Brooklyn. After having been missing for more than a month, Tibbetts was found dead on Tuesday. Kelsey Kremer/The Register

An hour before the Mass was set to begin, dozens of vehicles filled the parking lot of the school where Tibbetts graduated in 2017. Hundreds had already found seats in the school's gymnasium. Law enforcement guided traffic outside.

It's a possibilty; she might have fallen over; sprained an ankle.

What do you mean?

Mollie was abducted while jogging. The suspect was lying in wait for her to arrive at the less-populated section of her running route so he could harm her. She was forcibly taken from the street and put into the suspect's vehicle. She was stabbed multiple times and left in a corn field.

I don't see any room for falling over and spraining an ankle.

Iowa does use "lesser included offense" in murder cases.

Voluntary manslaughter is a lesser included offense of murder and is classified as a Class C forcible felony requiring a ten year prison sentence with completion of seventy percent of that time before the person is eligible for parole.

Involuntary manslaughter is a lesser included offense of murder and is punished either as a Class D felony under the public offense alternative carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison and an aggravated misdemeanor under the other alternative carrying a maximum penalty of two years in prison.

I can only find lesser included offense as being voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. But not second degree murder. I'll keep looking.

Including all the people who can not be there. Many are thinking of Mollie today.

Thanks for the link.

We don't know that he is a stranger. He's lived in the area for 4 years. Mollie might have seen him with his ex-girlfriend.

According to police, he and Mollie are strangers:

"Rivera worked for the last four years at a dairy farm a few miles from where Tibbetts was last seen. He and Tibbetts have no known connections other than that Rivera allegedly told investigators that he saw her running previously."

Not to argue, but what do you see as CR's intent? I don't think that he necessarily set out to kill, but to control/SA MT and this time it rapidly escalated to murder. Though I guess in this I imply that he would have to kill her if he went too far, as MT would bring down his world by reporting him to LE. However even without a specific intent to kill at the outset, his actions of stalking, assault and kidnapping are sufficient to successfully charge and convict CR of Murder One.

Did he always carry a knife? Or on this night. Typically if someone abducts and possibly rapes most victims never live to tell the tale. Especially when it's somebody from the area who could be identified. IMO when he gained control of Mollie she was not to survive this.

If I were to guess, I’d say that he normally carried a knife, perhaps as part of his job. If this wasn’t a common practice, it adds more evidence of an advanced degree of premeditation, as this knife would be an element of a calculated rape/murder plan, prior to the event.

Indeed, the presence of the knife goes toward intent to commit bodily harm/murder. Yeah, you're right.

About the funeral service for Mollie:
Mollie Tibbetts' funeral: Bishop to preside over Mass for killed Iowa student

2 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection in the gymnasium at Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom High School, a short walk from where Tibbetts lived with her mother and two brothers.

Rob Tibbetts, Mollie's father, Morgan Collum, Mollie's cousin, and J.R. Glenn, GBM's history teacher, will offer eulogies during the service. There will be nine honorary pallbearers, including Scott and Jacob Tibbetts, Mollie's two brothers.

The Rev. Corey Close, of St. Patrick Catholic Church, will give the homily. Following the Mass, her family will receive friends for a reception.
Rob Tibbetts strong to the end. I don't think I could speak in his situation just too emotional and difficult. Reminds me of a memorial service I attended for a close friend who was taken in the 9/11 attacks at the WTC. His father with whom he was very, very close had the priest read a letter he wrote to those assembled. He said it was too soon to try and speak publicly about his loss. Very emotional but as a father I understood.
