He lived what, 2 miles from city limits in rural Brooklyn?

About the same distance from town where Mollie was running. I'm not sure how it's important.

SharonNeedles, have you thought about more filming? Now that we have more pin drops on the map. I'll pitch for gas and snacks.

IMO, this is victim blaming.

An example of victim blaming is when it’s eluded that the victim has done something intentional to provoke the perp. In the worst case scenario it can be interpreted into a subtle suggestion that the victim deserved to be murdered.

I notice no victim blaming happening here whatsoever.

But the company runs the number, it comes back as a valid number. They didn't use Everify which I believe requires both the proper name and number. They just used the SS site to verify the SS number was valid. So the user was fraudulent, not the number.
The number was fraudulently obtained by CR. His employer used the same verification process used by other agriculture employers which is why they are cracking down. Jeez.

I don't see anywhere that I said anything about sympathy for him, but you're welcome to leave if that's what you want. MOO
You didn't. Someone was just confused.

At the point that you can inflict multiple sharp force injuries and leave someone else's child lying dead under cornstalks for nearly 5 weeks, while her parents suffer, you are missing your empathy genes. Sorry, but there are a lot of moving parts to this, and he has yet to give up what he did to her, so he may not look like Freddie or Jason, but multiple times? She did nothing to him but appear on his radar as she was minding her own business. We don't even know if she had time to threaten using her phone, but even if she did, who thinks, "Then I better abduct you and take you off and stab you repeatedly before they get here."

His method of killing and the numerous stab wounds is telling...

This is the person who took Mollie’s life!

The close contact required with stabbings could mean more rage, experts say.

"Anytime somebody commits a murder or assault, either by choking, stabbing or making bodily contact, it always speaks to a level of rage and perhaps a personal connection to the victim that shooting with a gun does not," said Naftali Berrill, a forensic psychologist in New York City.

"When you are stabbing someone, it's close and in your face.

The experience is more visceral and more graphic, more provocative.

It speaks emotionality, whether rage or paranoia."

Linn County has a lot of crime, I don’t feel Cedar Rapids is very safe at all. Same for Blackhawk County. Tama isn’t as bad, but they’ve got their fair share of crime. None of those incidents resulted in murder, there’s suspect descriptions (not Hispanic), and some of the “reports” weren’t even police reports but facebooks posts that went viral.

CR doesn’t seem practiced at all to me. I really doubt that he’s got any prior SA history.
You know the area, of course, and the details of the SAs. I've read too many novels where all the plot lines have to tie into a neat bow. Real life, of course, isn't like that.

What would the hospital do if she refused? Keep the baby? It's still voluntary.
Why would anyone refuse? It's required on tax forms, insurance forms, etc. And it has nothing to do with this case. Please move on.

And if his fear was becoming visible to law enforcement, why was he trolling and following a jogging woman, and (if he's telling the truth), getting out of the car to chase her on a road where there happened to be no one? No. Just no.

You must have a current State issued ID to buy Beer, Liquor and Cigarettes just about everywhere, even if you are over 21. Hence the need for State ID cards for non-drivers. The corporate convenience stores actually scan the bar code on the back into their system, which will not allow the sale if the ID is expired, fake, or shows you are under 21. This no matter how gray your beard. It's their liquor license that is on the line.
I see. I guess I just never thought of it before. Naiive country girl who thinks everyone has a license. And I don't have a beard at all.

I agree with you. He did know what he did was wrong. However, playing devil's advocate, he could have hidden the body because to have left it out, to have carried Mollie to a hospital after his initial attack and injury of her, would have meant he and his family would be outed as illegals (do we know if his uncle is illegal also?) Was he required to carry the secret to protect his family?
Illegals live in a complicated world, one misstep could cost them everything. You hear it thrown around that illegals actually commit less crime than legal citizens, that’s why. If I were to get pulled over for a DUI the consequences for first offense would cost me thousands, but for an illegal it would cost them their home, their job, their family - everything. That’s a fear that hangs over them every single day. I don’t know if that dictated CR’s actions or not, but the minute he laid his hands on Mollie those fears were realized. At that point it’s game over for him.

Looks like it's voluntary for parents to get a SSN# for newborns.

The Story of the Social Security Number

It's a whole "Mark of the Beast" thing.

Congressmen and Senators with sizable Christian Fundamentalist constituent groups dare not allow the passage of any Federal law mandating the issuance of a identifying number, like an SSN, at birth. That's why you must still apply for the kid.

Also, the IRS does not require a SSN, just a Tax Payer ID number, which they will issue. As long as you report your income, however gained, and you pay your taxes, they don't care.

It's a First Amendment issue, and isn't likely to change anytime soon

Wasn't Mollie's body found in another county? Another LE jurisdiction sounds like a well-thought plan to me.

I'm not so sure CR planned to murder MT. By many accounts CR was not a 'monster'. Quite the contrary. Regardless, placing MT in another jurisdiction would not mitigate his current situation. I believe he simply wanted to place MT as far away and as hidden as possible, with "as possible" the key element: CR had a life and people likely expected or assumed he would be at typical locations; he probably was pressed for time and came up with a dump site on spur-of-the-moment.

It is possible CR thought by running along with MT he could strike up conversation with MT in her element and ask for a date, as one might do in a bar setting. I don't expect CR would/could frequent bars and as some have highlighted in these threads, Brooklyn and immediate surrounding areas are not necessarily hotbeds of flexible entertainment and meet-up venues. Having 'seen' MT on previous occasions I expect his interest was piqued. We might assume CR's preferred 'type' based on his xGF and maybe MT fit that 'type', regardless of whether or not they 'looked' (read: facial features) alike. They didn't but 'type' incorporates entire body structure.

Assuming we accept CR's description of what occurred (according to LE):

MT's threat to contact LE was likely a catalyst (this is NOT victim-blaming) that caught CR by surprise. He lashed out in fear of being discovered (LE showing up, asking for ID, his employer discovering he isn't who he claimed to be, etc.) and losing what he had to that point: living in the United States, working, ~adequate housing and likely was working and/or hoping toward better. I expect his lash-out was nothing short of the reactions of fear plus anger from not being 'accepted' by MT.

I might change my previous opinion that CR might have been involved in previous, unsolved cases. Now, I'm not so sure.

I haven't been pulled over in 10 years, and I drive daily.

That totally depends on where you drive, what kind of car you drive, if your license plates are in the same state you drive in, and your race in that area. I haven't been pulled over in four years, and I speed all the time. But I live in a rural area with minimum law enforcement services, and I haven't driven out of state in the last four years. When I lived in the city, I got pulled over about once a year.

Thanks. Was the pig farm and areas LE searched also in Poweshiek County?
Yes. I don’t think anything relevant to this case is outside of Poweshiek County. And after 6 weeks, I can finally spell Poweshiek without looking it up.

I notice there is no time left for school or play. How horrible.
They are still limited to the number of hours they are permitted to work during the week. Hours on school days are limited as well. So, there is definitely time for school, if not play. Most employers work around school/sports schedules or simply refuse to hire anyone under 18 or part-timers.

It is known that homicides which involve multiple stabbing are very often the result of the assailant's highly expressed affect.

Multiple stabbing occurs significantly more frequently in sex-related homicides

When the criteria for multiple stabbing are changed (≥ 4, 5, or 25 stab wounds), the percentage of sex-related homicides rises in every group in relation to the increased number of wounds.

For female victims, all homicides committed by 25 and more stab wounds were found to be sex-related. Statistically, jealousy was the most frequent motive for sex-related multiple stabbing homicides......

Lol! I had planned on going today but we’ve got a lot of flooding going on and a lot of rural roads are impassible. When it stops raining and dries out a bit I’m going back.

He didn't think it was wrong while killing the poor girl. I don't think the monster has a conscience. He didn't think killing her was wrong, he has nothing but contempt for American laws and people. There is a difference between knowing something is wrong and knowing something is illegal.
That's the thing. He probably doesn't have a conscience. He just doesn't really care if it was wrong. Imo

IMO, this is victim blaming.

YAETYO, but no, I am not blaming the victim. My posted speculation is a legitimate possibility of how it could have transpired. We can not simply ignore the actions of a victim as not having any effect whatsoever in the outcome of their situation. That's a shortsightedness that I refuse to accept as being helpful in sleuthing a case. In fact, it is detrimental as it prevents us from taking in to account all aspects of the case, and those aspects include actions of a victim.
