It's very easy. Once you get someone SS number, or even a credit card number, you can get all the information you need. I have a friend who has spent the better part of her adult life fighting identity theft. She was mugged, her license was in the purse along with banking and credit cards. Years later she applied for a home loan and was denied based on several unpaid credit cards, credit card fraud and passing worthless instruments. That was her first indication that her identity had been stolen. It's plagued her ever since. Every time she buys a car, filing for parent plus loans, etc. It's been a nightmare. Not only was her identity stolen it was sold and although it made no sense, she was apparently living in several states across the US at the same time and no one caught it.
