O/T I don't want to alarm the farming community; but they are actually growing meat in a test tube; they see that as the way ahead; food demand can't keep up with population growth. Just not sustainable.

Bugs. Eating products made from mass produced bugs appears to be looming in the future as well. Less costly, less labour intensive I suppose. Yum, yum :(

O/T True, I didn't want to go there; but you made me; they are high in protein; Scorpion, Locust (taste nutty) etc. A nice bottle of wine; I can see it now; it's common food in Asia right now.

Yup. If you have herds of milk producers you’re considered Dairy. But let me explain. Farmers often insulate themselves from disaster. Crop failure, milk borne infections drought, etc. there are a thousand things a farmer knows to well that can go wrong. Many diversify and if they have accumulated land every acre possible is planted. Many utilize government programs to help pay either to grow or not grow certain crops.

Farming is and over decades has become a complicated business for the educated. Not only formal education but historic education which is handed down generation to generation.

At age 10 I drive my ailing grandfather around vast farmland in Michigan to observe fields of crops. If we saw another farmer out working we often stopped to talk even more crops.

I remember some stories and I learned to appreciate them as lessons. Some days some visits became an invitation for lunch and stories morphed into humor. I learned pretty fast I was a young sister in a historical brotherhood of people who learned by doing. And everyone had their stories of mistakes. While I never broke anything that we couldn’t fix, many did worse flipping tractors and even cracking connections between the head and the power train on a harvester ( I know it to be a Combine). My mistakes, while time consuming were in the realm of normal. However I certainly observed some of the worst when farmers died with their beloved equipment.

My guess is CR, after a year with Yarrabee was entrusted to tending crops as well. If I remember correctly he stated he was familiar with the land he placed Mollies remains. He very well could have worked the ground he placed her on and knew full well her body would be difficult to find. He might have know what rain would do to and evidence of the car or the dragmarks left as evidence getting her into and under the protective canopy of mid July growth. There would be nothing to detect after the hard rain.

The odor would not begin for days, and little probability of a visit by anyone. After the old addage of “thigh high by the 4th of July”, corn. Fields are left alone. Tenders stay close to home, a welcome break and catch up on things that have to be fixed and maintained. It’s a time when plants grow the dirt giving its most precious nutrients to produce the grain or feed needed to feed our nation or parts of our world.

And CR knew the corn hides secrets. Shoes, shirts and even condoms from parties past were in the fields.

Yes I’d think they raise crops as well.

About what you mention of cornfields, I’ve wondered why he didn’t bury her body somewhere instead, if he’d preplanned murder well in advance. It’s as if he didn’t want his crime to be immediately discovered, but also chose not to permanently reduce risk of eventual recovery of her body.

Sorting out CR's job duties. He wasn't milking cows. He worked with Yarrabee Farm's award winning breeding program. To most undocumented workers, it seems like his job would be a pretty decent job. What motive could make him risk "la vita dolce"? Compared to riding a mule five miles a day, he had it made. o_O

"Rivera had worked at the farm for 4 years and assisted with cow movement and cow husbandry.

Dane Lang also clarified that the farm did not know Rivera was the suspect charged with the murder of Mollie Tibbett's murder until he saw the photo on the news."

Murder Charges filed in death of Mollie Tibbetts

And maybe ironic, Yarrabee Farms cows (the ones' CR tended) won top honors at the state fair where Mr. Tibbetts and Dalton J handed out flyers.

"DES MOINES, IA (08/27/2018) (readMedia)-- Top dairy farms competed for honors in the Ayrshire Dairy Cattle show judged at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Yarrabee Farms of Brooklyn showed the Grand Champion Female, Champion Premier Breeder, Intermediate Champion Female and earned the Lifetime Production at the Ayrshire Cattle Show."

I love her fluffy tail.

They still milk their show cows.

An operation this size would have automatic milkers, so they have to move the cows into the milking room, and out. And clean their space and feed them etc.

From what I have heard from someone in this industry, is they are bypassing bugs and going straight to seaweed and similar protein.

Also hooking up the cows to the milking equipment.

As noted by the photo of the dairy show cow and the size of its udder, I think a dairy farm breeding program would focus on increasing milk production per cow. So yes, it would seem logical to me as well why a dairy farm would have a vested interest in carrying out its own breeding program.

I believe he thought himself to smart. It didnt matter if she was found after weeks in the weather. Dna and evidence degrades. Just as a cow carcus or dead deer in rain and heat of the sun. And under that insulative canoe in a corn field it’s hotter than imaginable.

Imo that’s the reason the ME mentioned hiring a forensic anthropologist at the beginning. They are educated and then trained to collect specimens in challenging cases when an ME may not have the skill set to do so.

Quiet he may be, but he did several very smart things.

But CR failed to commit the perfect crime.

He failed to consider the advances of pure science/tech and the least intelligent; VIDEO SECURITY (yup even farmers and country folk have em).

Reference time to CBR trial date from a few threads ago; I'm following a local felony case here in suburban NY. Pretty simple crime with minimum evidence gathering.

Crime and perp identified March 28, 2018, Grand Jury indictment September 10, 2018, arraignment scheduled for September 25, 2018.

I checked the Iowa Courts Online Search just now. There are two events with today's date under the Filings. There is a motion for "APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT OF PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR AT PUBLIC EXPENSE" and "other event" "FINANCIAL AFFIDAVIT" (excuse the all caps, I was lazy and just did Ctrl C/Crtl V from the website)

ETA: events were filed by one of CR's attorneys

In this particular case, will there even be a Grand Jury indictment? I’m thinking not because there was adequate probable cause for a prosecutor to lay the charges and also because the case had reached the stage where the preliminary hearing has already been waived.

“Rivera, 24, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Tuesday after the body of Tibbetts, a 20-year-old University of Iowa student, was discovered in a cornfield about 12 miles southeast of Brooklyn, where she was last seen running.....”
Farm that hired Cristhian Rivera, Mollie Tibbetts' suspected killer, did not use E-Verify system, official says

Its surprising how many murderers actually leave the bodies at the scene and never even bother to cover them up. Many of those killers never got caught or it took years to connect them to the crime. I believe Rivera had that particular spot in mind to both carry out the crime and have the perfect hiding spot. He was just waiting for the right time. He probably didn't think there was any need to bury her. Or maybe he was too lazy or wanted to get out of there fast.

I think the financial affidavit is for his family that is paying them as proof they can afford this

PI is probably to dig up other clues to prove someone else may have done it or involved or clues LE missed, it’s BS if the public has to pay, IMO, lol

That’s true, it’s possible rural video of the black Malibu would’ve led LE a more precise search area and so they convinced CR he may as well show them the location.

Beyond that though, CR could’ve denied driving the vehicle. “Oh my gosh, somebody took it while I wasn’t home, it wasn’t me!” So I’m interested to learn the reason he was cooperative with LE in not only directly implicating himself, but also leading LE to the exact location of her body (as opposed to “somewhere, I just don’t remember”) A confession ruins any hope of getting away with a perfect crime and typically deny, deny, deny seems to have become the standard.

So the defense are going to hire a Private Investigator

It’s interesting isn’t it?

He could have said “ya I followed her, asked her out and she said get lost”

I think they may have scared him by saying they had more video of him than they had and he felt he had no way out.

Yes some murderers leave the bodies to be found but then there’s also all those missing persons cases everywhere, many of them posted here on WS that stay in limbo for years, decades or forever. It’s terrible for families to be left wondering what if, knowing nothing for certain except that their child vanished.

Had LE not tracked down CR through video, even 10 years ago a case like this one might never get classified as an unsolved homicide if the body had been well hidden never to be found, if there was no evidence of foul play. It would remain an unsolved missing persons case. That would be my definition of “a perfect crime”... to top the list of despicable.

I believe LE has more evidence than we know that

Hesitant to post due to distracting from the MT case. Case about a loaded handgun in a school.
