Let’s all take a moment and be thankful IM didn’t show up with the baby lol

I have no doubt that the jury will find CR guilty of the most serious charge. None at all. A short deliberation with a unanimous decision.

It's still interesting to ponder his defense.

The very best outcome would be for CR to just plead guilty at some point, even if the State wouldn’t consider a plea deal, and in doing so spare Mollie’s family, boyfriend and other friends from having to sit through a trial.

Hmmm... I dunno, CBR appears happier with new legal team, but not so much with himself. #jailisnopicnic

His face is fuller. Less physical activity. Starchy Jail food, CR is putting on weight. I doubt that he is eating better on the inside, but one never knows, do we?

His facial expression tells me he is realizing the gravity of the situation he is in, especially as the School of Life continues to instruct him. Though, in his mind, he must be telling himself that no matter how bad things get, 'gracias a Dios' I am in a clean American Jail, and not a Mexican one!

Am I the only bothered by the fact that his facial hair still looks perfectly shaped. I know it's snarky, but....... That was the first thing I noticed.
I NOTICED TOO! However his face is paler.

I told my husband, "come here and look at him, doesn't he look fuller in the face and sunken eyes?" He told me "yes, guilt is destroying him..."

Me too. I guess he's allowed razors.
My first reaction was: "Really, really, you up on murder charges, but your face is shaven immaculately... Wow, just wow"

Yes. But then none of the involved professionals will then have the opportunity to build a career off of this case if that happens!

A plea deal would be best for CR, to obtain more favorable Protective Custody arrangements, and a choice of Prison (Iowa has several and is currently over-capacity by 1000 inmates).

No kidding.

Happily stating the obvious since the Summer of 1957. Glad to be of service. How long do you think, before he has to go up a size in his stripes?

But, you are of course correct. One should always give thanks for what one has, as things could always be worse!

I have no idea what is the appropriate action in that situation for the mother of a 3 year old to take but it does make me wonder. For example if CR regularly participated in the child’s life, how could IM explain his sudden absence? It’s become quite taboo to lie to children but what would a 3 year understand about “daddy’s not around because he’s in jail”. Visitation of inmates with children is generally encouraged but it would be quite a shock for a young child to otherwise be left thinking her father has disappeared, only to find later he’s locked in a cage.

So in this era of openness, it wouldn’t surprise me if IM was encouraged to attend the hearings with her child.

The other benefit is it might offer additional reasons for CR to decide to avoid a trial and plead guilty when all the evidence is complete. Admitting to doing wrong and all that.

Although I’m never been a Catholic I still have hopes that CR is. As Mollie was actively involved with the Church and possibly her family, his best bet is to seek forgiveness while spending the rest of his life in jail to atone for his sins. JMO

No direct sunlight for a month. He used to work in the open. Even Native Mesoamericans can get pale(er) if they stay out of the sun long enough. I speak from personal experience.

I've been trying to catch up today. If this has already been discussed I apologize but I watched the court proceedings and saw the aunt and uncle come in late but who were the other 2 men that came in with them? I assumed one was Mexican consulate

There is a better than even chance that CR was raised Roman Catholic.

Waiting brings fullness, and Prison is a good place for introspection. In PC, CR will have little else to do 23 hours a day. It is also a good place to "find religion", and something to look forward to on Sunday!

There are many well meaning, sincere Ministers and Priests who serve the Prison community. They, at least, will visit CR. Worse men than CR have found a way to salvation and a new heart by following the road to Calvary.

This is a fundamental tenet of the Catholic faith, to blame the sin and not the sinner. This as a man who sins can always seek forgivness, and achieve salvation.

The State and the rest of the world is another matter!

JMOO - Not intending to preach, just speaking about Catholic Dogma from long experience.

Yes and given the first name of Cristhian, even better than an even chance he was raised Catholic.

I’ve read this report of the Vigil held for Mollie after CRs arrest several times and I just get the strong sense that CR is not a stranger to that church. I’ve googled enough to understand that “evil” is committing a mortal sin and much like you mention, the Priest also said this:

We need to pray for a spirit of forgiveness for the one who did this," the priest said. "Faith teaches us that Christ came to forgive us. We’re all in need of forgiveness. We’re all sinners. None of us are exempt."....

This next point has me stumped though - Reconciliation with who? CR?

“The pastor went on to call for a spirit of reconciliation. It may not come easily or quickly, he said, but the faithful must find a way to forgive.”

Reconciliation is another name for the Catholic sacrament of Penance or Confession. Catholics are encouraged to seek and give forgiveness in their lives like we do through Confession.

I felt the same way when Mollie's dad was pleading for her return. The same religious undertone.

"In the public statement, Mollie’s dad also says he thinks a person who may have taken Mollie didn’t intend for the college student to come to harm.

He said, according to ABC, that he thinks the person needs “the freedom and the space to process this, and to get themselves out of this amount of trouble because they get into a deeper amount of trouble.”

“I do really believe that what happened to Mollie wasn’t that someone set out to harm her,” Rob Tibbetts said to ABC News.

The pastor is speaking about Reconciliation, or forgiveness, before God for both CR and any and all who would condemn him. "let those among you without sin cast the first stone". "To err is human, to forgive divine". (The first is from the New Testament, the second is not from the bible.)

A Mortal sin is a gravely sinful act, that can lead to eternal damnation if the sinner does not confess and repent before God, before death. If only by the Sacrament of Last Rights.

While man can condemn CR's act and body, only God can forgive sin or condemn his soul.

That is only between the individual and God. Each of us should tend to our own sins and shortcomings and our walk with the Lord, and not to those of others. Actually, good advice to live by in general. "Keep to your own knitting."

Please, again, I am NOT attempting to proselytize or preach. I am only attempting to explain about Roman Catholic dogma, in answer to a question. What anyone wants to believe is anyone's business, but not mine. I am not an expert in these matters, very far from it, but I did go to Catholic Grammar School for 8 years (Mandatory attendance at Mass every school day), and 4 years at a private Catholic boy's Military HS.

Most definitely JIMHOO!!!
