One case. In my experience that is highly unusual. The word I used is "typical". Those of us who've been doing this or years we'll know that these days actually clearing people publicly is rare.
Gosh even when they know who did it or have a good idea, they usually don't clear people until there's an arrest. The recent case of Katlynn Cargill is a common example.
I understand what you're saying, and again, I'm reminded of our friend "Foxfire" who railed against the archaic rules of "Hoover's FBI". The public is the number 1 resource in finding a missing person. There are certain things that they may, or should, keep close to the cuff but a timeline is not one of them IMO. People that could possibly have seen a missing person will dismiss it if they think, "Oh, i saw on FB that she was seen AFTER the time I saw her so it doesn't matter, or whatever. I know that opening things up to the public brings out the crazies and some leads are not leads at all but that's why you call in the FBI/BCI/State police as soon as humanly possible. They are the ones with the resources to weed thru 100's or 1000's of comments and leads. They make their labs, their computer geeks, their boots on the ground, their media representatives available to local LE who most times, are woefully unprepared.
We didn't find Ce in time, but I firmly believe, as does my family, that we found her buried remains because of the PUBLIC, and because of the PC going on, social media, public involvement. It was a member of the public that found her..not LE, not the dogs. It is the public's perception of what the disappearance entails that keeps them motivated to help you find them. I am saying in our case, the fact that they vetted and gave Josh the "CLEARED, NOT A SUSPECT" so promptly, helped move the investigation forward, retained the interest of the public, and allowed us to bring her home for a proper burial. Again..JMO, and I still do wish that LE was more forthcoming with the details in respect to this case. Not even having a definitive last sighting shared, I think is ridiculous.
This has just been my experience. The investigation while she was missing was well-coordinated and well done almost immediately. Now the trial...don't get me started on that!
