R.I.P. to the officer's who lost their lives. Prayers to their family, friends and coworkers.

I read earlier that he flagged down a state worker, (DNR) showed he id & asked that they call 911, he then said he was not feeling well? So they took him to hospital. Last i heard no charges have been filed. He is supposedly known not to be well in the head. Very sad for the 2 officers, iirc had been involved with him in the past, not sure which incident. Jmo

With his record i would assume it was not legal for him to have, although i am not sure of the laws in iowa and iirc it may have beed a shotgun.

All states have the same laws where no felon(ex) can legally posses firearms including all long guns.

Its a federal law as well.

I am sure he will have illegal gun possession charges added.

I read when he flagged down the state worker for help is because he was having some kind of seizure.

I am at a loss at times by some of the questions asked here. It makes me wonder if some aren't reading all of the articles available. As you said, why shouldn't he be alive when he turned himself in. When they don't and refuse to surrender is when they are most likely to be shot/killed, and yes, white male criminals are shot more often than anyone every year with 99.5 deserving it because they refused to comply or surrender. It shows they need to have training seminars in all of the schools or at the county courthouses across our nation on how to comply to simple commands if stopped by the police or how surrendering without further incident raises their chances greatly that the arrest/s will be carried out without further incident nor harm to anyone else.

Most of these haters will either go out in a blaze of glory refusing to surrender nor comply or they wind up being lowlife cowards and don't want to get hurt by the police officers with guns. Those kind don't mind one bit murdering other innocent people when they have the element of surprise and their victims are totally unaware of what is going to happen to them. What they do care about at times though is they don't want to go through what they put their victim/s through. Or they will off themselves before the police can do it. Most of these hate filled executioners are really cowards at heart. That is why they have to attack without warning.

After reading how he reacted during the weapons search I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd attempted suicide by cop. He doesn't seem like a quitter or one to let things go. Perhaps he was ill enough - like having a heart attack or something - his fear took over and he wanted help from the very people he'd been so hateful toward only hours (days, weeks, years) previously.

Iowa Police Arrest Suspect in ‘Ambush’ Killings of 2 Officers
NOV. 2, 2016
The two officers who were killed, in separate attacks a few miles apart, were identified as Officer Justin Martin of the Urbandale police and Sgt. Anthony Beminio of the Des Moines police. Both men were apparently caught by surprise and had no chance to defend themselves or return fire, the authorities said.
Sergeant Beminio was a veteran officer with a wife and children, while Officer Martin, who was in his mid-20s, became an officer just last year, officials said.
Chief McCarty said that in the shooting of Officer Martin, it appeared that the gunman had walked up to the side of the patrol car and fired “over 15 and under 30” rounds. Many .223-caliber shell casings were found, but officials said that they had not yet recovered the weapon and that there might have been more than one.

I don’t find that the suspect, Scott Michael Greene, has been convicted of a felony. I find misdemeanor convictions and dismissed charges.

He pleaded guilty to misdemeanors in both cases, and was fined and given probation. A judge ordered Mr. Greene to have no further contact with the man he harassed, and to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. In May 2016, fees he owed to Polk County related to those two cases were referred for debt collection.
Mr. Greene was arrested on an assault charge in 2001, but the charges in that incident were dropped.

Iowa Police Arrest Suspect in ‘Ambush’ Killings of 2 Officers
NOV. 2, 2016
Later that morning, on a gravel road along Interstate 80 in Dallas County, west of Des Moines, Mr. Greene flagged down a passing employee of the state’s Department of Natural Resources, showed his identification and told the employee to call 911, Sergeant Parizek said. Sheriff’s deputies and state troopers responded, found him unarmed and took him into custody, the sergeant said, but Mr. Greene complained of a medical problem and was taken to a hospital.
Investigators were searching for the gun or guns used in the shootings.

Police Find Gun Believed Used in Iowa Officers' Deaths

A gun found by a search dog in a wooded area is believed to be the weapon used in the fatal ambush shootings of two Iowa police officers, police said Thursday.

The weapon was found "where no person probably could have found it," Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek said during a news conference. He said the weapon was found Wednesday, the same day the officers were shot, but he declined to provide details.

Ardis Gardner of Des Moines told The Associated Press he was at the Oct. 14 football game to watch his teenage son play.

Gardner, 47, who is black, sat with a group of other friends and family members when Greene, who was dressed in Army fatigues, approached them within a few feet and waved the flag at them during the national anthem.

"I was angry," said Gardner, who typically sits during the national anthem and prays. "It was senior night, and the spotlight should have been on those senior players. This was calculated for him to do it at that moment."

A week later, Gardner said, Greene followed him and a group of black parents into another football game with a dog that was wearing a gun holster and a Confederate flag vest. Greene sat nearby again.

Soon after the football game incident, on Oct. 17, a criminal complaint indicates Greene was involved in an altercation with his 66-year-old mother. Greene accused her of scratching and hitting his face. He captured the fight on cellphone video, which he used as evidence of the assault.

A judge ordered Greene's mother to stay away from her son, and she was released on $1,000 cash bond.

He clearly escalated as time went on, this racist harassed African American's, terrorized his neighborhood and ended up killing two officers.

I am getting nervous for what will happen after the results of the election. Will more deplorable racists like this man think actions like this is justified because the "system is rigged"?

District Judge Carla Schemmel ruled Tuesday that Greene had committed elder abuse against his 66-year-old mother, Patricia Greene, by “physically hitting and financially exploiting” her. She ordered him to move out of his mother’s home, where he had been living in a basement bedroom, before Nov. 6 and to stay away from the home for a year.

Patricia Greene had applied for the restraining order Oct. 19, two days after she was arrested and charged with striking her son in the face during an altercation that he had recorded with his cellphone. She wrote in the application that she believed her son “set me up to get me in trouble.” Patricia Greene wrote that while she was in jail, Scott Greene told one of her friends that Patricia Greene needed to give him $20,000 and that if his mother paid, “he would move and not bother” her again.

Patricia Greene also wrote that her son had sent “a bunch of rambling, offensive” text messages, warned that he would no longer take care of her cat and was going through her personal belongings. She said her son had subjected her to mental, emotional and financial abuse.

A temporary protective order was issued Oct. 20. Schemmel issued the permanent order during Tuesday’s hearing, where it was served on Scott Greene. The order, which warned that any violations would lead to his arrest, also directed Greene to return $10,000 to his mother and to not take any of her assets.

Reading about the church in Mississippi and some incidents at polling places and right there with you. Scary times.
