In killing four humans with a knife in this circumstance, I believe rage to be the most bottom-line of components.
As in jealous rage?

**Update** Through further investigation, MPD learned Kaylee and Madison used a private party for a ride home from Grub Truck at approximately 1:40 a.m.

EXACTLY. This person somehow was able to stab 4 people and every one of their victims died. Stabbing is inexact - except when you have done it enough to be more exacting with it.

This just does not seem like this person's first murder(s) by knife. They have done it before.

Is there a source for this?

When you say "a private party," are you saying it was not a hired ride service (which would be traceable), such as Uber or Lyft?

As in jealous rage?
Many things can trigger anger attacks, including stress, financial issues, work, and social pressures, family or relationship troubles, lack of sleep, and even frustration over having panic disorder, agoraphobia, or another type of anxiety disorder.
Intermittent explosive disorder involves repeated, sudden episodes of impulsive, aggressive, violent behavior or angry verbal outbursts in which you react grossly out of proportion to the situation.

Good points. But stabbing is an inexact science. Perforate the aorta, vena cava, or pulmonary artery or vein and someone would probably lose conscientiousness in 15 seconds or less. Miss major organs and a person could be in shock but take a while to bleed out.

I'm finding it very hard to believe that none of them screamed. I understand that sometimes perople can't for whatever reason. But in this case 4 people did not seem to make much sound.

I doubt one is going to miss those things with a huge combat knife and a supine non moving sleeping target

News have reported that someone who *did not live in the house* was the person who called 911. Source
Perhaps the girls returned to the house with another friend, they see Ethan on the floor upon going up to the second floor and it's the friend with the girls that makes the 911 call. In that scenario the girls are 'in the house' but are not the ones that make the actual 911 call.

A thought just occurred to me and I don't think it has been mentioned before. Perhaps Ethan was the target and the girls were collateral damage.
Upthread, an article was posted where Mr. Kernodie said that Xana had changed recently, for the better, due to Ethan. (Can’t find it now, fast-moving thread.). What was happening in her life prior to Ethan?

It feels like Madison and Kaylee, both beautiful young unattached women, would be the obvious targets of a stalker, incel, or angry ex.

But Xana’s past is worth a look. Was someone angry about her relationship with Ethan?

Trying to catch up after a long week...not sure if it has already been posted but the pics with what looked like dripping blood on the back/side of the house were mentioned on Court TV this evening. The reporter said it was was blood. I have not had time to look around and see if LE has stated that but the Court TV reporter did say it was dripping blood. Sure looks like blood to me.

Wow, that seems like it could be significant. So strange that they only know this now.

The red jeep in the parking lot...is there a clear picture of it where the tag can be seen?

IMO private party makes me think it was not a ride share service but either someone in their private vehicle, either someone the girls knew or did not know, but someone who is not hired by a company.

Does anyone know what this means? I've taken a lot Uber/Lyft and have no idea. It sounds like they rented a limo but I can't imagine that's what "private party" means in this scenario of a 1-2 mile ride in the middle of a freezing Idaho night.
They mean like just a private person, a friend, not something commercial.

I wonder what is known about the deceased's phones. The girls especially didn't go anywhere without them. Did the killer collect them? If they were "left to die" given that the killer went from anywhere from 2-3 different rooms, were they unable to try to call police because the phones were taken from them or placed out of reach? Or, are we looking at someone who basically waited for each person to pass? If there might have been any kind of watching behavior like that, I think that says a lot about this kind of offender.

My best guess still hasn’t changed with even more news being released:

- Kaylee was the target/object of the rage and Madison and especially Ethan and Xana were killed because they got in the way. A lot seems to center around Kaylee. She was described as someone everyone adored and was truly special. She was the one moving away. And she was the one who placed multiple phone calls very shortly before she was killed.

So I am really struggling to understand how a person can have so much rage, to kill someone, yet alone 4 people.

Does "private party" mean they caught a ride with someone that wasn't driving professionally for a car service?

I think private party means not a taxi, uber or lyft but someone's personal vehicle. So who was it? is the obvious question.

I agree. But there are lots of ribs and sternum in the way.

Or jealous and angered at Ethan because of his relationship with her? <modsnip>
