I may have missed it. Was it reported that the roommates called friends or summoned friends? Summoned could mean that they ran to a neighbor's - that is a perfectly normal reaction.

Also was it stated that all victims were found in their beds? I thought the coroner said that then walked it back I know they were attacked while asleep.

In that kidnapping/murder in memphis earlier this year, cops were quick to distribute images of the suspects car caught on camera. We're over a week into this crime and nothing has been sent out. There's only a few ways the suspect left out of that residential area. The fact that nothing has been distributed like in the memphis case leads me to think that the suspect lives close by to these victims. If i'm LE, i'd go house to house, every single home west of 95, along taylor ave, north of west palouse river dr, i'm asking for everybody for DNA samples.

I think it's safe to say that LE is late on several things from many of our perspectives. It's been over a week with no answers. Hard to blame anyone for fearing contaminated evidence.

Yes, yes, yes! People keep speculating E got up and went to investigate, etc, etc. What we have been told is that all 4 were attacked in bed, likely while sleeping. No one went anywhere before they were attacked, and several didn't go anywhere at all. If anyone moved, it was likely as they were bleeding to death and trying to get away. I also believe the attacks happening in the beds would have kept the killer relatively clean as most of the blood would have a place to collect.

True, but the upper body of the killer would have still been covered in blood from just the knife going in and out of each victim.

I understand that. It has to be entered as evidence for thay to happen. Investigators can find clues to lead them in a direction to solve the case without the prosecution entering the clue as evidence.

A case is a legal investigation- not only one or the other- it is both.
Prosecution of the case is possible only if investigated correctly with documentation and following all of the restrictions.
Statements/ interviews- Miranda Rights
Searches- Signed by Judges if probable cause Provided by LE.
Arrests- Signed by Judges
Clues- chain of evidence

A contaminated scene is how defense attorneys get a jury to think Reasonable Doubt. If there is a possibility someone else did it, then a person cannot be convicted.
How do investigators know what evidence is where until they investigate? They have no idea what they will find until it is found.
Assuming accident or suicide and it turns out not to be is a problem.
Assuming it is one perp and it turns out not to be is a problem.
Any evidence of what really happened could be gone- because it was assumed not to be present.
So all deaths should be assumed to be murder, and all persons nearby should be assumed to be POI until evidence shows otherwise. This is the only way evidence can be preserved. You can’t preserve evidence if you don’t know it is there, you don’t know it is there until you investigate.

Now we are 7 days into an investigation and 3 dumpsters have been seized and searched likely for clothing and a weapon. Hmmm, a lot can happen over 7 days. Why were they not searched on day 1 or two? If you wait 7 days at my house the trash has gone out twice.

Of course, I wonder if this is connected to the killing/skinning of the dog and rabbit. I hope they are looking at real estate rentals in the last couple of months. I honestly believe this is an outsider that is new to the area. Or maybe a semi homeless person. MOO

Maybe the girls came back with perp and the couple got home at the same time around 1:45am. The couple saw the killer or could identify him. The girls go upstairs with the perp to hangout. The couple goes to bed. The perp starts acting strange, so one of the girls calls ex boyfriend ( from 2 different phones) in panic or to get help. Girls get killed. Perp has to kill couple because he can be identified, so kills them in sleep. Other roommates never saw the perp so he does not bother with them. Drug tox will be interesting and insightful. That’s my guess.

Driver who brought girls home could verify that there wasn't anyone else with them.

Are there any peculiarities that make the place different to any other town in America or even the state?

Are there tensions between communities at all?

Is it an affluent area?

How rare are crimes of violence?

What about drug and alcohol misuse? Any particular problems above the average?

The FBI guy interviewed last night on CNN gave the most insight I have heard so far as to how the investigation is going and the vital importance of Profiling for a lead on this case.
I’ll repost the link. Quite a unique interview with Rosemary Church CNN.
To paraphrase in part he said that we would probably not be able to guess the killers motives because he doesn’t think like we do. He may have killed only the 4 because that was enough for him….

But the actual statement from police say the surviving roommates summmoned friends for help. The reporter here changed the wording - like many in this thread.

I know it's nit-picky but the word stuck out to me. And if LE don't want to release who the 911 caller was then they definitely wouldn't say it was a neighbor. KWIM

Anyway, my question is why is the bottom floor soundproofed?
Who soundproofed it? The owner? The people living on that floor?

It may have originally been the garage of the house or at least part of it was. I lived in a house with a similar floor plan and we had a garage and a TV room on the ground floor. Kitchen, living and dining was upstairs, bedrooms upstairs from that. This is a very common floorplan in the Northwest. The garage is normally soundproofed between the garage and rest of the house. Later on, it was converted to two bedrooms and a bathroom.

The murders are not connected to a story about a dead dog. That info is posted here in the last 2 pages.
