I’m posting this because this happened yesterday morning, about 1/2 block from our house. VERY close to my daughter’s bus stop.

The article says the jogger was attacked from behind and choked unconscious, and had been sexually assaulted. She was and still may be in the hospital.

The article states the assault took place at 6:30 am, but this is incorrect. We got a text from our daughter at 6:27 that morning saying she’d just got to the bus stop on Brogan and Seabreeze and cops were all over the place, questioning kids there asking if they’d seen an adult male in the area. When the jogger came to, she indicated the direction he traveled (back toward our house) but she only saw him from the back. He was wearing gray sweatpants and a dark gray or black beanie or hoodie. It had to have happened more like 6:15 and our daughter would’ve literally passed him. She’s 15 and this is totally terrifying.

LE came to our door this morning and asked if we had video. Normally, we do have a ring cam and a couple side cams, one of which may have been able to capture footage of him. However, our internet connection for the cameras (we have 2 different companies or networks) had only worked intermittently in the days leading up to the assault, and were not connected at all since then. So, we have nothing to go on!

This is frightening to say the least. Our neighborhood online group is mostly talking about how to make it safer around the subdivision, talking to the HOA about better lighting and trying to get the clubhouse reserved for self-defense classes to be taught hopefully free-of-charge if someone with connections to LE can swing it, considering the circumstances.

There are no suspects. Just the clothing description, direction of travel, and a height was estimated by the victim to be 5’10”. But she was lying down on the cement so we don’t know how accurate that is.

What can I be doing? Besides keeping myself and my daughter safe, I feel like my hands are tied. Until this guy is caught everyone is on guard. My husband doesn’t want me checking the mailbox alone (that he passed after the assault) and honestly I don’t want to either.

For now, I’m praying for the victim and her recovery, and neighborhood efforts are being made for fundraising to help her with lost wages, therapy, and that sort of thing.

We need this perp caught before he reoffends and/or escalates!!!

Meant to say the assault occurred prior to 6:25, because any later, that’s when our daughter left the house and would have encountered him on foot as he made his getaway.

Can you make up a roster for kids to be escorted to the bus stop from both directions by an two adults, preferably male?

That’s a good idea. In fact, I think my hubby should volunteer to walk a group from our side to the bus stop. I know my daughter certainly will not walk alone again (and it’s dark here at 6:30 still!

I’ll suggest it to our neighborhood group tonight, I know many have concerns of their kids going alone to the bus stop now.

I'm so sick of this happening! We can't do anything alone anymore.

Wow. It would have been dark...obviously perp took advantage of that. Yes, brazen. I'm in another part of the Valley, I wasn't even sure if this was Meridian or Boise when it first came on the news. Hope this is resolved quickly. I like the idea about escorts to the bus for the kids

I have a beautiful greenway across the street with a babbling brook but I can not bring myself to walk it alone, even with concealed carry.Everyone thinks I am being paranoid.
Sorry Haven you are going through this and prayers for the victim.

How far do they travel? 6.3o is very early to be at a bus stop for school. What time does school start?

I am also sorry this is happening so close to a WSers home and that Haven and her family are now concerned about being outside. I understand!

There was a murder of a jogger in a park near me and I stopped going to that park alone. It's a beautiful place, but I'm just too scared when alone to enjoy it. It can get under my skin that my movements are restricted - I wait for my husband, son, friend to be available to walk there with me. The murder in my neighborhood remains unsolved, which, of course, just adds to the concern.

I hope for Haven's neighborhood that this crime is isolated, the perp is caught quickly, and the community will be at ease again.

School starts at 7:40, it’s Mountain View High School which is a 15 minute drive with no traffic. Perhaps my daughter’s stop is the first one, I haven’t asked her.

Thanks for your kind post, IntheDetails.

I’m so sorry to hear of such a violent crime near you in an area you used to be able to enjoy. I hope it is solved, the sooner the better so you can feel safer once again. I think something like this probably changes us forever, heck, just being on WS and seeing the cases has made me a very alert and safety conscious person.

It’s a shame that women and children are especially vulnerable.

Hate hearing this, Haven. Had 10 wonderful days in Boise and McCall the end of October, spent a lot of time alone exploring as my travel companion did his fishing thing, was in awe how completely safe I felt there. Hoping for you and your community this creep is caught quickly.

Thank you all. Unfortunately, LE has no leads that we know of. I’m afraid this is likely to go unsolved.

In the meantime, we’ve arranged carpooling for a few other concerned parents in the neighborhood to get our kids safely to the bus. I’m armed with pepper spray, as is hubby (he always has it on him before now). We’ve already taken precautions in the past as far as locking our doors ALWAYS and have door armor installed, window alarms, security cams, the Ring doorbell app, keep our house well lit at night. For now, if I need to drive somewhere I let hubby watch me get in the car and come out when I get home (luckily he’s fortunate enough to be able to work from home). Aside from our 15 year old, I worry about my beautiful tiny (5’3” 95 lbs) 26 yo daughter who is living with us for some period...because she leaves for work at 10:30 pm and arrives home around 8:30 am. We made sure she’s equipped with pepper spray in hand as well every time she goes out.

To do: Work with the HOA and neighbors in getting more streetlights, brighter streetlights, staying informed, starting a neighborhood watch, and setting up self-defense classes.

Thanks guys, I’ll post if there are any updates!
