ID - Charles Smith & Christina Haynes for child abuse, St Maries, 2008

  • #41
This abuse case happened in my town. St. Maries. Ugh. I'd be one of the angry locals someone mentioned earlier. But seriously, I'm considering going down to the jail and showing them what's up. I wonder how they would like me to pull up their skulls? :furious:

Here's the quote that his mommy put on his MySpace: "this is his mother, i know my son wouldnt hurt any child, HIS INNOCENT DONT BELEAVE EVERYTHING YOU READ. HIS FAMILY WILL DEFEND HIM UNTIL THE DAY WE DIE!!!!!!!" *rolls eyes*

On a better note, as Liz mentioned, her condition is up to serious now. Here's an article from the Spokesman Review with a little more detail.

Prayers for sweet Kyra.

I heard that on the news tonight I4G .... I can't even contemplate that her scalp was pulled up?! What kind of monster does that!? :furious:

Heartbreaking to think a child would get upset & start crying because it was time to go home with/to mommy. Children should be looking forward to seeing Mommy! :(

I4G - Thanks for giving us Smith's mother's quoted message left on his my space.

Definitely saying prayers for Kyra, her sister and their daddy.

This makes me sick. Look at her, how can anybody do this? What mother allows a man off the internet into her home?
Sheesh.

So does his dear mum think aliens came in and abused this child while he was oblivious to it happening? Or that he is somehow an abused and controlled spouse? Mommy needs to wake up and smell the roses!

This is so horrible. I can't believe this poor baby has survived. Thank God someone called before it was too late and she was actually checked on. I will never understand mother's who choose boyfriends over their children. It makes me angrier than anything in this world:furious:. What were they using the syringe and the baster for in the bedroom? She was obviously bleeding also because there was blood found in the house. Poor baby, prayers for Kyra.

Him and his mama are pure trash. Oh and sweet Kyra's mom? She's even worse...

Today's Spokesman article. MULTIPLE reports to CPS. NOTHING done. :furious:

Nurse, care provider say they told state of neglect

A nurse and a former child care owner say they made at least five complaints total to Idaho Health and Welfare Services about possible abuse of a 3-year-old St. Maries girl who was recovering Friday from multiple surgeries in a Spokane hospital.

“I reported to CPS, in detail, three times, and they’ve done nothing,” said Solitaire Lounsbury, a referral nurse at Fairchild Air Force Base who lives in St. Maries and got to know Kyra Wine and her 6-year-old sister, Amanda Wine, because they occasionally attended the same child care center her children attend. The operator of that child care, Norma Mabbutt, said she also tried to alert social workers.

Whenever contacting Child Welfare, make sure that you end the call with asking exactly who you are talking to and log the date and time and content of the call. Make sure the call taker is aware you are documenting all of this. Just maybe the person taking the report will perk up when they realize that you are carefully documenting when the report was made and who it was made to. Be sure to clarify any response you get, such as if the call taker (screener) says that the call will be "followed up on" or "logged" or "not logged." If you don't see any intervention and no change (or not appropriate change) be persistent and keep calling and recording.
Too often I have seen calls to CW not be followed up on. I think sometimes reports are dismissed too easily because of overwhelming work loads???

From Idaho's link above:

"Simnit said that when residents call the state to report possible abuse, they must offer details about what happened and should call immediately about the suspected abuse occurs. When asked what type of specifics the agency would need, she said: “I don’t have a manual to quantify what level of specific detail.”

What a bunch of BS. CPS is trying to cover its hiney here! They are supposed to check out all calls. Some calls, if it is not real "specific" they have 10 working days to respond to. All others, they have 24 hours. The teen daughter brought this to the attention of the bus driver and the principal, both mandatory reporters and CPS was told at LEAST 5 times. No excuse, and if I was that little girl's dad, I would be suing someone for failure to report, failure to act and failure to notify. :furious::furious::furious:

In one of the links on this thread, I read where the boyfriend would stay up 48 hours at a time. That makes me think Meth.

Salem, I missed it somewhere....I didn't know there was teenage daughter who reported it to the bus driver and the principal. I am disgusted that nothing was done before now.

He really does.

This is from an article about a totally different abuse case but this is what police said and maybe we should keep this in mind:

Meanwhile, Troyer said the case raises a number of larger issues — such as CPS procedures that he said give police too little information too late. He also said that a public that diligently calls CPS to report suspected child abuse might be better off calling police instead.

"I just don't understand why people have been brainwashed into calling CPS," Troyer said. "It's a crime; it should be investigated by police."

This is also informative from the link I posted about another case:

Troyer said things might have been different if detectives had known about the eight prior complaints.

Under CPS policy, intake workers decide whether to forward complaints to law enforcement by filling out what's known as a "blue sheet." But the blue sheets don't always provide important information, Troyer said — like details about prior complaints.

"We get blue sheets with two or three sentences on them," Troyer said. "We just get piles and piles of blue sheets and no way of tracking them."

That breaks my heart. Eight complaints and thuis child was left in the home. :banghead:

Salem, I missed it somewhere....I didn't know there was teenage daughter who reported it to the bus driver and the principal. I am disgusted that nothing was done before now.

Deb - the (15 yr old) teenager that reported possible abuse was the daughter of the woman that sometimes watched the Wine children (Norma Mabbutt). The teen rode the bus to school with Amanda Wine, the 6 yr old. The teen reported to the principal (and the school bus driver) that the girl's face seemed swollen and just not looking right; and when asked about it, Amanda's replies seemed hesitant and rehearsed.

I'm wondering if a 15 yr old can pick up on this child's apparent abuse ... why in heaven isn't the 6 yr old's school teacher picking up on it!?!?! (I know it's alleged abuse, but my mind is pretty convinced at this point.)

The above info was in the link provided by Idaho4Groenes but I'll post it again in case anyone missed it:

That's it for me. If I suspect an abuse of a child...I am calling the police and I will exaggerate, if necessary.

I am sick of reading how CPS has dropped the ball.....
