Thank you.

Is there any evidence or information that she was ill? Maybe she wanted to pass away in a place she loved and just wandered off with her dog, her best friend, who was also getting older... jmo obviously. This would be a kinder, gentler ending, if it were voluntary and peaceful. However, she did have a gun, so maybe that debunks my theory. Sigh...

ETA, also there was a lot of bad weather right after she was last heard from. So, now I'm back to not knowing what to think.

This would be my preferred way of going. Honestly.

Wow, he was out there in the dense forest for 23ish days. Amazing.
I'm thinking probably due to the ways Connie trained him to survive out here all the times he spent there with her. A job well done. imo

Another possibility has crossed my mind. This is just my opinion. Maybe Connie was ready to go. Maybe she walked off and couldn’t be without her husband. It happens. They can’t live without a spouse.

IMO, unless there is a family dynamic we aren't privy to, I don't see this as a possibility. She had Ace with her, and as he was her responsibility, I can't imagine her leaving him to fend for himself. She would have made sure Ace was taken care of.

I also think she would have made sure she could be found, so her daughter and family did not have to wonder what happened.

Just my opinion only, as I have no personal connections to Connie.

wow, 22 days and the dog was found? No mention of his condition, and I'm curious. Perhaps he stayed with Connie until she passed... Ugh, heartbreaking!!!

Richie Outfitters

"Ace was flown back to Hamilton, taken to a veterinarian to be check and found to be in good shape, other than being a bit skinny.

You, my WS friend, are spot on. No way she would take her own life and leave Ace on his own, nor leave zero answers for her family. imo

I hear you- that was my thinking, too- that she wouldn't have left the dog to fend for himself. I mean, if she had a gun and planned to use it on herself, I would think she would have shot him first, then herself, so they were together. Does that make sense? I just don't see her going there with the dog, and doing self harm there, of all places.

The radio incident puzzles me- they said they couldn't understand her much- could that be because the area was very remote and it wasn't a clear signal that day? If she didn't feel well, what would cause her to just up and walk away, possibly with the dog, with no coat? Even if the dog took off on it's own, I can't imagine her going far without her coat and maybe a flashlight or something to take with her, while searching.

This is really bothering me, but there isn't much we can do about it from a websleuther's end, other than hope and pray she is found one day, and that no harm came to her, that she died a natural death.

The radio contact has me puzzled as well. I don't think she would have decided mid "camp cook job" to suddenly leave the place abandoned when people were counting on her being there. I also agree that she wouldn't have wandered off to end it all with Ace, leaving him behind to fend for himself.

I feel she may have had a medical emergency, such as a stroke and in a confused state wandered off, with her dog following only to perish in the forest.

I hope she is found soon.

Was wondering about stroke as well,if the terrain was wet and slick would be so easy to slip and fall in the wrong place. Info on hiking the area is all moderate to difficult.Could explain why her coat and firearm were left behind. That was a red flag for me. So glad Ace is safe. Prayers for family and friends. You guys and gals are amazing

What if while they were in camp something approached them that totally freaked her out, she ran for the phone to call for help but in her terrified state couldn't get the words out, that's why they couldn't understand her... The jacket and gun had been momentarily placed on the table and she couldn't get to it, Ace was terrified also and took off running not looking back!!! I'm just saying that people have gone missing for unexplained reasons and never been found, or have been found where it would be impossible for them to get too. There are accounts where a group of young adults is hiking on a trail, one girl walks just a little bit ahead of her friends when they lose sight of her. As they reach the spot where they lost sight of her, they look ahead of them on the trail and she's not there it's as if she just vanished into thin air! They called for her and started searching but they couldn't find her, they called the forest service right away and a search and rescue effort was made, to this day she hasn't been found. There's a lot of these cases but the forest service won't tell you how many, they don't keep a list because they don't want the public to know! Connie wouldn't take a dog into such a remote area if she knew Ace would run off, I don't believe there was a chance of that ever happening. The only other thing I can think of is if Connie possibly fell and hit her head, became disoriented and just walked off into the woods and Ace followed her, from that point on anything could have happened, with the storm a tree could have fallen, or Connie just kept walking until she couldn't go any further and took shelter under a downed tree or some large boulders. If that's the case it would be next to impossible to locate her, I'm sure Ace stayed with her until he had no choice but to move on and find help or a way out of the woods! If Connie did pass Ace could have spent a good part of those twenty-something days with her before moving on.

The one thing I don't understand is if they couldn't understand what Connie was saying why didn't they call her back?? I would have called her right back to find out what she was trying to say. I mean at that point she could have needed them for a medical reason and they could have sent a helicopter in, also if they called her back they would have known what was going on, possibly making it easier to find Connie know!

I've heard a lot about the Missing 411 stories. Very odd. Not to get my tinfoil hat on here, but anything is possible when you are in the middle of nowhere, I mean look at what happened to Jack Nicholson in The Shining :) One has to wonder what it is like to be alone deep in the remote forest.

I'm still 80/20 medical emergency over self harm.

I believe Ace could have run off for some reason, maybe when they were on a walk, and she went after him. Maybe the fact that they could not understand what she was saying was a bad radio connection? But yes, she could have had a medical event happen while out walking too. It is sad for her family not to have closure.

Let's take it one step further- let's just say, they can't get a hold of her again. Why not call for help right away? I know you can only get there by plane or horseback, but it seems strange to me that they didn't understand her on the radio- that could mean anything- possible medical issue going on, bad signal/static.

I really want to know more about this last communication with her, and why no one thought to follow up on it? I need to re-read the beginning- I am confused now as to when it was officially reported that she was gone. I know it was two days they last heard from her, right? Didn't anyone think to try and get in touch with this woman again, knowing that she was all by herself and is 76 years old, for Pete's sake?
