LE have never never even implied that the 4 POI are guilty of any wrongdoing, let alone named them as suspects or anything else. So no, they won't "clear" them. That's how innocent lives can get ruined forever by out-of-control speculation and accusations.

The POI can't be ruled out because no one knows what happened that dawy. There's no evidence either way.

Do we know there is no evidence either way? (I'm referring to ALL POI's, not just the parents, BTW). No one has said that, at least not that I'm aware of. That's why it's so ambiguous. If there is no evidence either way, I wish LE would just come out and say that. Otherwise, it does leave a cloud of suspicion hanging over the four POIs, even though they haven't been labeled as suspects, IMO (which is unfortunate if there isn't a shred of evidence against them). The sheriff was very clear that he was handing over evidence to the FBI, so if all of that evidence was inconclusive, will they ever make a public statement that says something along those lines? I just find it all confusing - LE hasn't issued an official press release since July 20th.

Three cases that come to mind are Lisa Irwin, Ayla Reynolds and Madeleine McCann. They haven't been solved, even though in the first two there appears to be more evidence than in DeOrr's case. Investigators don't give up, but in time, the investigation slows down as clues dry up. Heartbreaking and frustrating, especially when there is blood evidence, as in Ayla's case. JMO

The only case I can think of where the parents were officially cleared but still no one knows what happened to the kid, is Jonbenet Ramsey. And yet the majority of the public are still convinced that the parents did it or at least covered it up, IMO.

I thought the monkey, cup and blanket were available to the toddler because the parents said that they were concerned (I thought about abduction) because they thought he wouldn't have walked about without those items. But it was reported those items were in the car? (Not challenging in the slightest, just trying to get it straight!)

Yeah at first it was reported by Nate that all those items were gone also. But later on it came out they were actually in the car. I'll try to find the links here a little bit when I have more time and post them.

As it turned out Nate kind of made a few assumptions that have made this all a bit confusing. IMO

The paternal grandfather said that the blanket was in the car, but I don't remember that ever being confirmed. I also don't remember anybody saying where the cup and monkey were when he went missing. I would also be interested in seeing a link if that has been confirmed.

Somebody said it was quite noisey near the creek. I wonder HOW noisey?

Did they have to shout to be heard? Could you hear a vehicle? Shouting?

Or was it just a faint water flowing sound?

The creek looks like it could be pretty noisy especially when it's running full. I assume you could hear a loud enough scream.

The area down to the creek seems to be lined with trees so when DeOrr made his descent to the creek how could DeOrr be seen?

Okay, forgive me. I actually read that stuff was left in the truck here I think it was being talked about because the grandpa said the blanket was left in the truck.
But the main point is all three items. The cup, monkey, and blanket where all accounted for and left at the campsite. Where at the campsite....who knows.

Below is the link to the video where Nate says there is no sign of his blanket, his monkey, or his cup. It sounds like he does say after that that they were left behind. But this is clearly where the rummor came from. Point is only the truck and boots and clothes DeOrr was wearing left with him where ever he went.

Maybe the closest we could get to figuring it out is to determine how many young children go missing without a trace in areas where mountain lions are known to exist. (And then, whether if, when their remains are found, it shows there is proof or a possibility that a mountain lion was to blame.)

I think it happens more then we realize. Some dogs that have been taken by ml were only confirmed because of surveillance videos and if not for those videos nobody would of ever known what happen to the dogs. As there isn't blood or anything left behind.
All these missing 411 cases are not as spooky as they sound...well okay I guess spooky maybe but it isn't Bigfoot taking these people. I fully believe we have overlooked the ml on many of those cases. What els in the forest could make whole humans disappear? Its all pretty interesting.

At first I thought DeOrr might have been kidnapped. But just because I have an open mind I decided to look at the ml theory. And seriously for every question I had that made me think it would be impossible I'd always find an answer that made it possible.

Its sad. I really hope a ml didn't get to him because if one did I'm not sure if there will ever be an answer for these parents. I hope they at least find his boots or pants at some point. But because of the lack of any sign of him I really think one may have.

Scary stuff JVWayne. Just so everyone knows, the video-grapher admits editing in the lion roars and using freeze frame to heighten the suspense. It's in the comment section. Still, I wouldn't want to come upon that beast.

It took thirty years for her to be fully vindicated, after being tried and convicted in the court of public opinion, the press and an actual courtroom. She was sentenced to life in prison, but it was eventually overturned. This is a fascinating article on the subject.

A point that hits home is the impact of the media, social or otherwise. Lindy felt judged whether she smiled or cried.

Judging the manner of a criminal defendant in a heavily publicized case is no less an issue today. It may weigh more heavily than ever in this age of social media, when everything can be dissected in endless detail by millions of self-styled experts.

I am in agreement with the other posters that think a mountain lion was responsible for little Deorr's disappearance.

At first I thought he could be in the reservoir somewhere-but his little body surely would have surfaced by now.
