If we were going to ask a reporter to clarify some facts for us, what would we ask him?

(Please copy this list and add your own so we can all be on the same page.)

1. When did the family first arrive at the campsite?
2. Who arrived at that time? (JM, DK, DeOrr, IR, ggp, others?)
3. If not at the same time, when did each member of the camping party arrive?
4. How many vehicles did they bring? Who drove each and who rode in each?
5. What sleeping arrangements were planned? Tents? Camper? Who was to sleep where?

Re: #1

When did the family leave ID Falls and when did they arrive in the Timber Creek area? Not that specific campsite or even that specific campground. Iow, they can say they arrived at that particular site on Friday morning, but that doesn't mean they didn't drive out there the night before and sleep on the side of the road even outside of the campground or a different campsite. Kwim?

The info from Eaton on the Jean Casarez segment was from quite some time ago iirc.
Did he even mention the friend of ggp's on that show?
Heck we all need some reliable info.
Thanks for the reminder though.
jmho

The date was July 15, 2015

Yes, there were direct quotes in the link previously provided from both Jean Casarez AND Nate Eaton mentioning the friend of the great grandfather:

CASAREZ: Defense attorney Shah, who is joining us from Atlanta -- you know, I have to ask you -- they always question those that last saw the child. I don`t care where you are. Is it important for authorities to question the parents, the grandpa, the grandpa`s friend?

NATE EATON: Friday afternoon, the family arrives at the campground. They're settled in, setting up their tent, having a good afternoon. The parents decide to go on a walk. They leave the boy with his grandfather and the grandfather's friend.

NATE EATON, EASTIDAHONEWS.COM (via telephone): Well, Jean, they're currently trying to find any sign of this little boy. They`re scouring the reservoir and (INAUDIBLE) creek. This is a little kid who was camping with his mom and dad and great-grandfather and a friend of the great-grandfather.

For the record, no hunting seasons were open. The hunting seasons don't overlap with the camping season. Hunting seasons begin after camping season ends.

I think that's a rather salient point. If someone was poaching/hunting illegally, s/he can't just shrug off an accident. There will need to be major clean-up to avoid hard jail time.

6. Why have you not asked these questions before now? (Okay maybe strike question 6 lol)

What about asking a reporter for clarification? Is that allowed and if he responds, could his answer be discussed on the thread? Would be nice if he would put his answers on his website!

We thank you for trusting us to bring you the most comprehensive news coverage in East Idaho. We hope we’re living up to your expectations and, if we’re not, I want to hear from you. Email me any time – nate.eaton@eastidahon***.com.

ETA: I reported my own post to ask the MODs
WS doesn't condone members contacting LE, family members, or the media. If you do contact a reporter, and you receive a reply with permission to share, you are expected to run it by a mod in a pm before you post. But again, it's not a practice WS encourages of its members, especially as pertains to LE and family members.

As you say maybe it was a bit of both. Maybe they arrived Thursday night to the area and slept elsewhere. Then they came to that particular site the next day on Friday and set up camp at that campground. Therefore, they arrived Thursday evening but didn't set up or arrive to the that actual camp site until Friday. That would kind of make both versions of when they arrived be correct. Arriving Thursday and "setting up camp Friday" before he disappeared.

To really confuse things - maybe she owns and works at both. How do we know for sure? 😒

Didn't I read that there are two RSO's and both are accounted for? The one at the restaurant that gave the interview and the one at the ranger station?

Maybe he will be inspired to write an article that answers all our questions!

To me, this leaves open the possibility that they arrived at the campgrounds late Thursday night, and slept in the camper, as some have said. Then in the light of day they drove around and chose a camp site on Friday morning. So they settled in and realized they needed a few things and drove to the market. JMO

There are only 5 campsites at the campground. Two of them are at the lower section of the campground, which is where they were camping. Not much driving around choosing a campsite, there are two and right next to each other.

Right. But if they arrived in the dark on Thursday at bedtime, they might have just stopped wherever, and parked and went to sleep. Much better to look for a good campsite in the daylight, imo.

Vilt says he has interviewed people registered on the sex offender list who live in Lemhi County and, according to him, all of them were cleared.

And DK didn't know about the upper campground until later IIRC. But to katydid23's point, they could have stopped at another nearby campground on Thursday night and proceeded to the Timber Creek one on Friday. I'm not saying I think that's what happened, but that it could have happened.

EXCEPT, they told authorities they left their house in Idaho Falls on Friday, July 10th.

EXCEPT, they told authorities they left their house in Idaho Falls on Friday, July 10th.

Do you know whether "they told authorities..." was that a "direct quote" from the parents or was it an indirect quote?
Thanks if you know... I'm looking for it on my end as well.

Updated:
Found this - I also noted that it is not a direct quote from the parents.

The child's parents, DeOrr Kunz Sr. and Jessica Mitchell, told authorities they left their home in Idaho Falls on July 10 for a weekend camping trip that included their son, as well as the mother's grandfather and his friend.

Yes thats what the poster was basicaly saying. But if Deorr was taken I think its safe to say we are not talking about a law abiding citizen here.
A lot of people take part in proaching. Either way I think its irrelevant imo its not what happen to him.

The poster wasn't talking about if Deorr was "taken". Poster was talking about a hunting accident whereby an archer accidentally hits and kills Deorr while poaching. So yes, that would not be a law-abiding citizen because he would have been poaching, but the result of the poaching, though illegal, would have been accidental. And I agree with you. IMO that's not what happened to Little Deorr.

But who told the reporter that? Did the authorities tell the reporter or did JM and DK tell the reporter? This is what we went over a lot in previous threads. I don't think there is anyway to tell.

Because I checked ownership records. The Stage Stop is actually up for sale.

She still could work at both.....Seems like anything is possible, anywhere, anytime, anyhow in this case.....We sure don't know anything FOR SURE...do we? Except that little DeOrr is missing....or is he?

I don't know for sure that they did tell authorities that. I would like confirmation and clarification on that. JMO

The paragraph that begins, "The child's parents, . . . .
Contains six lines. The last two words of the last line are . . . .
"Bowerman said."
