Is Gigi in?? Maybe we can share in private conversation?? Or is that forbidden?
Maybe the “other” Law & Crime “correspondent” assigned to reporting on this trial, Cathy Russon, got a ticket. Gigi and Cathy make a good tag team reporting.

I wish Nate and Justin would interview John Prior.
I’m sure they’ve tried, but don’t think Prior would grant an interview now.

Can’t remember … is there a gag order in place?

Sounds like they will get an hour heads up when the verdict is reached.

I just can't figure out, no defense? No rebuttal witnesses? Nothing?
The onus is on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. I guess Lori's lawyers felt that didn't happen and they will speak to it in their closing. Their cross examination of the witnesses was lame so I expect their closing to be just as lame.

That article is way out of date.

There was a hearing on the date for Chad, held during the Lori trial, and details reported. Although no decision was made, they ended up landing on June 2024 as a favorable opening, and about 3 months for a trial (it sounds like Chad's defense will be very aggresssive, including the intention to call 7-8 expert witnesses).

The reason they ended up there? The 12 weeks that they want to have wide open for everyone is a scheduling challenge because of its length. Everyone had other things in the way in fall 2023, along with concerns of not a big enough window possible with major holidays at the back end to interrupt everything. In winter-spring 2024, there were weather concerns and scheduling conflicts that went into May.
This is a very good summary of what was covered in that hearing so thank you for posting it.

I’m not sure that I really understand the reasons of weather and holidays as we all have to face those challenges in our daily lives. I get they already have things scheduled too but waiting another year to even start the trial doesn’t sound like a very good option to me. However, I won’t be surprised (if LVD is convicted on all charges here) if CD and the defense don’t try to make a deal in that year and get the death penalty off the table. Surely they recognize that CD doesn’t have a chance of being found not guilty If LVD is found guilty on all charges. I think for the families involved, I’d rather see a deal for life w/o parole than wait another year for a trial and then at least a decade & maybe longer before execution and appeals and such. If I’m not mistaken Idaho hasn’t executed anyone in the past 10+ years & the prisoners currently on death row have been there over 20 yrs except one who was convicted about 5 yrs ago.

Yep, exactly. The defendant doesn't have to prove anything. They can just say nothing and if the prosecution doesn't prove their case (because they were the ones who brought the charges, so they have to have the proof) they don't have to do or say anything. Oftentimes doing ANYTHING opens one up to more examination so saying less is safer.

I thought they might do this if LVD was not going to testify. I think It is for one of the following reasons…

1) LVD’s choice and the defense attorneys had to follow her instructions. I think she might have chosen no defense to demonstrate a belief that she has done nothing wrong that needs defending and as a translated being she cannot be punished in this life. I think that either she expects to be translated out of this life or perhaps a portal will open to another one.

2) The defense attorneys knew that anyone they put on the stand to testify on LVD’s behalf would just open the door for the prosecution to bring a rebuttal witness and therefore another opportunity to drive home there case. It was a lose lose situation for the defense because there is nothing they could present that would dispute what the prosecution said unless it would be LVD on the stand herself and she would have to lie and they couldn’t put her on the stand if they knew she would lie.

I was waiting for a line of people, stating what a "wonderful mother" LVD is, and she couldn't have any involvement with killing her children or their deaths.

I guess that they couldn't find one person to testify for LVD and how great she is...that says volumes, right there.

Chad was busy dialing down everyone's percentage numbers so Lori and Alex could get rid of them..and then eventually Alex got the whack..what a Dumb A$$!! Lori had total control over him. there was enmeshment and plenty of secrets that kept it all going..Lori probably promised him sex and money , to keep their secrets and to alway love him return for "protecting" her.

I'm sure Chad wanted Alex out of the picture..he knew way too much and could be a wild card, I cannot believe they have not investigated his death further.

added: Lori was freaking out that Tammy saw Alex with the gun..this was a slip up..then it happened again!! Im sure he was spiraling into Zombie territory at this point in the game.

mOO

If Chad has any loyals left, Lori--whether she's found guilty or not--could be his next target. Her defense didn't even present a case and at this point, only she and Chad know a lot of the details. He's got a few more months to go till his trial, but is it long enough to line up a loyal and figure out a way to off the only person who can pin him down?

I guess they just opened the courtroom to let people sit in there instead of out in the hall?

Meanwhile, good discussion on Law & Crime.

ETA: maybe it will open 1:00 Idaho time, 3:00 EST

This is what I was initially expecting, but as the trial went on, it became more and more apparent that LVD had gone out of her way to isolate her kids and cut out of her life anyone who might have challenged her worldview -- a RED FLAG that someone may be involved in a cult.

It's interesting to note Steven Hassan's BITE model and how many of the cult mind control methods that were explicitly used by LVD within this little group:

Behavior Control
- Dictate where, how, and with whom the member lives and associates or isolates (telling AC, MP, and ZP to move to Rexburg)
- When, how, and with whom the member has sex (encouraging marriages/divorces)
- Financial exploitation, manipulation, or dependence (paying for CD's travel - possibly others'?)
- Major time spent with group indoctrination and rituals ("casting" meetings)
- Permission required for major decisions (marriages, divorces, custody, travel)
- Rewards and punishments used to modify behaviors (offering CD intimacy as a reward)
- Discourage individualism, encourage group-think
- Threaten harm to family and friends (talking about making those with "dark spirits" scream)
- Instill dependency and obedience
- Separation of families (encouraging CD to get rid of TD)
- Murder

Information Control
- Deliberately withhold information (not telling CV's kids how he died)
- Distort information to make it more acceptable (lying to strangers about how CV died)
- Keep members busy so they don't have time to think and investigate (castings, prayers, visiting the LDS temple)
- Compartmentalize information into Outsider vs Insider doctrines (Church of Firstborn vs "regular" LDS)
- Control information at different levels and missions within the group (missions to complete on this earth)
- Allow only leadership to decide who needs to know what and when ("I'll ask CD to find out...")
- Misquoting statements or using them out of context from non-cult sources (using Christian/LDS terminology)

Thought control
- Require members to internalize group's doctrine as truth
- Instill black and white thinking (dark/light)
- Decide between good and evil (dark/light scale)
- Change person's name and identity ("nicknames" from previous lives)
- Use of loaded language and cliche ("zombies," "warrior up")
- Hypnotic techniques ("healings," casting circles)
- Instill new "map of reality"

Emotional control
- Make the person feel that problems are always their own fault, never the leader's or group's fault (being opposed by evil spirits)
- Instill fear (fear of possession)
- Extremes of emotional highs and lows (love-bombing, telling ZP and others "you're a goddess!")
- Terrible consequences if you leave (possession)

I’m glad Nate Eaton will be posting this afternoon.
Waiting to hear jury instructions.

Need help!!! Now that state and defense have rested....the one thing that's really bugging me is why didn't Melani Pawlowski testify? It seems to me she had a heck of a lot of information to add to the Prosecution's case.

I know she was in town under subpoena, and her husband testified. Then prosecution let her return home without calling her to stand..Anyone know what happened? Or, can someone speculate.?I'm loosing sleep over this one.

I am wondering that they didn't bother with MP testimony, because she would take the fifth for every single question.
