Splendid! I hope law enforcement receives some windfall from this. This is a quite disturbing and old homicide case. I'm surprised that this case isn't more well known.

The DNA Doe Project has made a tentative identification of Clark County John Doe. We are unable to release his name or details of his life until law enforcement is able to provide confirmation.

He had one close match according to the DDP spreadsheet(at 186.9 cM) but also quite a few other matches above 30cM that would have helped.

If those stats give an indication of ease of ID then Phoenix Jane Doe 2004 also looks to have good numbers. She has 4 matches above 40cM and 5 matches over 30cM that have existing trees. I like their new/additional stats.

Once the remains are no longer needed for the investigation, the university will turn them over to the family members, allowing the victim to finally be put to rest.

Clark County John Doe discovered in 1979 identified by ISU, UNH and DNA DOE Project researchers

In 1979, the headless torso of a man was found buried in a cave. In 1991, more partially mummified remains, some wrapped in burlap, were found by a young girl exploring the cave with her family. ISU conducted excavations of the cave, but never recovered the entire body. Since then, the skeletonized remains have been stored at ISU. This unknown man is now identified with high confidence through dedicated DNA Doe Project volunteers trained as forensic genealogists.
