I was thinking the same. I would guess they had some supplies and maybe the baby is breast fed. Had to have been cold though.

Reminds me of the case years ago, iirc a wife/mom stayed with an infant & toddler, husband took off & froze. I think he worked for CNN. They had been stranded for days as well. What an awful situation.

ETA: I’m prob thinking of the Kim family, as previously posted. What a nightmare.

Family of missing man in Owyhee County says his remains were found: 'His loss is going to be felt forever”

Sara Ontiveros, one of Rose's sisters, said in a statement, "Our family had hope, no matter how fantastical we had hope. Today we have lost that. We are going to support and love each other and his children while our minds and our hearts adjust to a world without Eric."

The family tells KTVB that a miner found Rose's remains under a tree.

Oh how awful. I’m trying to catch up.
I’m glad he was at least found. So many are not.

I shouldn't be surprised by this, but I suppose I had some hopes that he was still alive, and that his wife knew or thought he was. I can't really explain why I thought that, even though it made little sense. I'm so sad for Eric and his family, and glad they can at least lay Eric to rest.

What a horrible death. In these situations, by time a person sets off on foot, he’s totally spent from lack of nutrition, fluids, heat, imo. Not to mention the fear.
If nothing else, I hope people in cold climates learn from this and parents of younger drivers stress the importance of being prepared.

Since they managed to last about 5 days in the car, they were somewhat prepared. And then she was able to find a cabin, which confused the heck out of me...too bad they both didn't discover this cabin. My guess is he left and set off in a different direction from where the cabin was.

What makes this even sadder is it was probably preventable. Again I hope he rests in peace.

Oh, man. I was really hoping maybe he somehow found a cabin, too. I knew it was a long shot, but hope is all we have sometimes. I’m really glad he was at least found, so they can bring him home to be laid to rest. These types of cases are so tragic. Prayers to his friends and family.

I hope they will do an autopsy to confirm the cause of death was hypothermia and not something else.
