I have seen this picture many times, and I'm just starting to watch the 3-hour special on Comcast On Demand. This was one of the first first photos that is coming up. It always made me wonder, but I've never asked, who did the very very small braided rows in both of their hairs before they went to their last day out at the park. That takes some time to do so small of braided rows, if that's what you call them. Braids? I guess that's a better term? I'm trying to remember the timeline supposedly of where they were the night before they went to the park where they had their hair braided like such.

It could have been done with a crimping iron. It’s like a curling iron, but wide and flat and makes your hair wavy. It would only take about a half hour to do.

Also, it seems like during this 3 part mini series it seems like the producer has to keep mentioning to them both to mention Tylee more, it just seems like they go from not mentioning Tylee at all for large portions of the show to suddenly mentioning " the kids" and "JJ and Tylee"

it makes me scream in my head " who loved and missed Tylee" .. now Coby probably.. but i hope there was others as well

After watching it again I think the whole mood of scripting takes away from the seriousness of the entire situation. Charles conversation with the police is raw and real obviously, it makes Kay and Larry’s aired conversations seem contrived in comparison. Showing up at the neighbors to ask when they last saw them was staged, as were the others incidents mentioned. It seems they were heavily coached and neither of them are good at delivering at a believable level from that vantage point. I’m sure that’s not what they wanted out of the documentary.

thanks for confirming my post above, i knew i had read that dateline was involved early on

so it looks like dateline struck a deal with ID to air some extra shows, they are probably shows that NBC either won't run or can't run on their slate as its probably full and finalized for many months/years in advance, a 3 hour show would be hard to fit on to NBC's slate the way it stands right now

so to get some extra content out they have " dateline on ID" instead of "dateline on NBC"

whats interesting to me is that i had heard there was a new 1 hour special being produced for NBC Dateline that was a continuation of the ones they had already done on Vallow/Daybell but then everything went quiet and no part 3 ever aired, i do wonder if this special has combined that footage into this show with what the woodcocks had filmed for their documentary

because i watched the entire 3 hours last night and it was a little all over the place with the footage, its a shame they couldn't use the normal hosts i think they always do such a great job for Dateline NBC

( a friend of mine actually shot the supercell storm footage that was featured in the show, it was licensed from him, i didn't know until i watched the show and then said hey thats my friends timelapse )

It would have been much better with the normal Dateline host. It’s one of the worst scripted/directed docs I’ve seen in a while. I too found it very “all over the place”

you might be right that it was more just scripting or coaching, so the producer would be like " tell us what JJ was like" or " what did JJ love to do"

so its possible that is why it feels like they are mentioning JJ more than Tylee

you can tell the real moments in the show, like when they receive the call that they had found the kids bodies, i really didn't like that myself as much as we all love true crime, some conversations and moments just don't need to be revealed and that felt like an overshare bordering on inappropriate

I guess when it’s all said and done there will most likely be other documentaries to be made.

I, too, have wondered about that. It is too tight to have come from regular braids.
I noticed the hair and attributed it to pixelation.

Yeah, I think it was a result of pixelation / low resolution. Many of the photos, for whatever reason, in the ID series seemed very pixelated, not sure why. It was apparent when they were blurring faces of those not direct subjects in this case, but even some of their family photos appeared very low resolution, not sure if that was intentional for some reason or what, but I would agree that the photo referenced above is possibly more likely because of that.

Poor Tylee. Once her dad passed away, she was probably mostly isolated.

At least she had Colby and her friends until she moved to Idaho with Lori. I think she had been out of contact with her father for a while before his death.

Here's my understanding and MOO:

Wood had filed a protective order asking that the exhibits be protected and that no one could talk to the media about their contents. That was denied but the Judge had sealed everything temporarily so it is somewhat moot.

Means had asked that Wood not be allowed to participate in the case until the misconduct charges had been resolved. That is also denied.

Both parties agreed to extend the time on the change of venue etc. to make room for a hearing on Wood's conduct. So instead of that hearing, the Judge will instead hear about the misconduct on Jan 6. They are still arguing about whether that will be closed or not.
